Oh, yeah! When Hank finds his brother in Japan & then they have that huge screen showing what they were doing.

Anyways, I saw in a little clip in the Nicks Choice Awards commercial that they had DDR arrows, but orange-blimpedified.

For anyone that has Brighthouse Network cable and/or G4 on demand, I was bored and flippign through the shows they have and found a 20 minute short that you can play about the history of music games. Starts out with Parappa and moves onto DDR, Beatmania, Samba, Guitar Freaks, Donkey Konga, Frequency, Amplitude, even Space Channel 5 laugh.gif Shows alot of DDR Freestyle/tournaments, etc.

I found it interesting, maybe you will too... lol

Did anyone else see Electric Playground on Sunday? Julie Stoffer was interviewing some Konami executive about Beatmania, and then she moved on to Naoki Maeda and some other guy to query them about DDR Supernova.

The guy next to Naoki was pretty vague in his explanations of what Supernova will bring to the table that other arcade releases didn't, but I guess that's because he only spoke Japanese and only got a basic gist of what Julie was asking him.

She asked about new innovations or something, and Naoki's like "TOP SECRET." It was grand. laugh.gif

DDR was on a local news show here (Fox News Chicago, if anyone's interested) last night, but it was such a non-story it wasn't even funny. Before they actually gave the report, they said something about, "You may have heard about DDR or Dance Dance Revolution before, but now find out how some kids are taking it to the next level!" I was like "Next level? WTF?" As it turns out, the story was about a group teenagers that meet every Friday at an arcade, and... play DDR and try to do better than one another. There were some comments from people like "Oh yeah, it's a good workout, people have lost weight" and "it keeps my kid out of trouble", and of course some footage of a reporter trying it and doing badly. And that was it. Fox must have really been scraping the bottom of the barrel for news this week. o_O

This was in Wednesday's edition of Central Michigan Life (3/29), word for word. (My comments are in brackets, like this)

Westland junior Ted VanToll is regarded by many to be one of the best dancers in the world.

But his dancing isn’t done on the dance floor.

VanToll plays the dance game “In The Groove,” a video game very similar to that of the popular series “Dance Dance Revolution.”

“I like the competitive aspect of it,” he said. “It’s a cool thing to do when you’re just hanging out with friends.”

In the game, players use their feet and play on a pad with four arrow buttons. Players step on the arrows based on the rhythm of each song, or stage, as they travel up the screen.

VanToll finished 13th at the ITG Singles National Championship in Las Vegas.

However, he mostly plays doubles mode, where two pads are joined together to create one pad with eight arrow buttons.

“I’m pretty much considered the top doubles player in the world,” he said.

“In The Groove” is very similar to the more popular “Dance Dance Revolution,” but employs a more convenient interface and is considered to be much tougher on its expert mode.

Players also face the challenge of avoiding mines that travel up the screen along with arrows.

The game was first created for arcade in 2004 by a group of veteran DDR players.

“It has a lot more variety in its game play than DDR,” VanToll said. “It’s made by a franchise that listens to the players.”

Despite his preference for ITG, VanToll started on DDR when his brother received the game for PlayStation 2 three years ago.

“At first, I played it occasionally,” he said. “Once I saw it at an arcade at Cedar Point, I started playing it more often. I moved into the heavier songs quickly.”

Since then, VanToll has earned the highest ranking, an AAA, on over 500 songs from the entire DDR series.

He remembers the first time he saw ITG at the Oakland Mall in Troy.

“I went there with a bunch of friends and when I first tried it, it was crazy,” VanToll said. “Just like with anything else, it takes time to get used to it.”

The ITG series uses percentages for grading, with 100 percent being the highest possible score – a score VanToll achieved on five songs.

Meanwhile, other students on campus are still hooked on the DDR craze.

Students from RPL 430: Recreation Programming will be hosting “Dance Fever,” a DDR competition and free style dance off today at 9 p.m. at Wayside Central, 2000 S. Mission St.

“We wanted to do something a little different and unique,” said senior group member Becky Lathers. “It’ll be playing on the big screen and everything.”

There will be a $4 cover charge at the door. All proceeds will benefit the “Rock for Kids” charity in Chicago, Ill.

Lathers said the event has received plenty of good feedback since it was announced.

“A lot of people are excited for it,” she said. “Everyone seems to know the game. It’s pretty well known. Everyone’s at least attempted to play it or watch someone else play it.”

The winner of the competition will receive a PlayStation 2 with a dance pad. There also will be a raffle with prizes including tickets to the Detroit Pistons, the Buick Open and to see the band Yellowcard.

VanToll said he might make an appearance at the event.

“Maybe,” he said. “I’ll have to see what’s going on.”

Say, isn't he a member here?

Someone told me that Keven Federline (think Britney Spears) visited a local radio station here (yesterday, I think it was), and he wound up going with the DJ to the local Gameworks to duel him on DDR. Found the clip online:

Last week I think it was my mom got all excited and called me into the room because DDR was on the British soap opera she was watching (either Eastenders or Coronation Street, I forget which).

Some kid was playing it and then this old guy kicked the kid off the machine and started playing, and he was sucking at the game so this other old dude pushed that guy off the machine and started playing it while their wives were talking about them.

I was surfing around on iTunes Music Store and I ran into WWW.Blonde girl by JENNY ROM, it was the original mix slower than the one on DDR and a CD series called Eurobeat Xplosion. It has a lot of songs from DDR and these weird covers of DDR songs (well songs featured in DDR) like Dub-I-Dub, Captain Jack, Sky High, etc. Thought it was kinda interesting but not worth buying, espicially the covers.

Oh wow, it amazes me how popular DDR is getting nowadays. There was an article in the school newspaper about it last year (in Cross Fire Debate or something DDR vs. Actual Dancing) and recently this year they had an article about what to do after prom and someone put DDR, and it was featured in the excercise like techniques of another issue.

Also at the school carnival coming up their having a DDR "booth".

I'm almost convinced that my school is going to have a DDR unit. Which means we're probably either going to have it in summer school and take trips to the Union, or we're going to but about five or six x-boxes and around 25-30 pads.
