Is Last Message even in this version?
There is another, similar distracting moment in the Toxic video. It ruined my combo, for sure. |
If you mean badly drawn semi-clevage then yes you are right otherwise, I'm sorry I played the song and have no Idea of the combo breaker part that you were mentioning |
It wasn't any of those you mentioned. Maybe it was just me. _________________

The EB here got in three/four copies, and the GameStop got two [...one of them was on reserve, and the other one is now in my livingroom]. I had no idea that this could potentially be this rare of a game....
From what little I've played, I'm not super-impressed...I'm just glad that I'm able to play without owning a modded PS2 / JPS2. _________________

I agree. This isn't an impressive "Style" as far as song selection and the color choices on the UI? Can you say 70's joint smoking? It's too loud. They should have stuck with an indutrialized look like 9th Style originally was.
It's like a mixup of Best Hits on JPSOne and a few hits and misses from all of the IIDXes. It's just 'okay' for those of us who already have the JP versions but probably a decent set of songs for the neophytes. |

Well, my thoughts:
- Turntable is still like a mofo. I have to push down a little bit and move forward, thus making my controller shift a little bit. I gotta sit on the floor. Or find a slide-mat thinger around my house.
- Don't know if this is related, but my screen moves everytime I take my eyes off my tv. Maybe I just need to blink more.
- Training mode should have had the metronome and tick marking. It's a lot more helpful than figuring out the song that you've never heard before.
- Buttons are huge. I say this because I have small hands but long fingers; I end up using two fingers for a button and thus, slowing down my reaction times.
- Songlist is alright, but not "Wow, this is awesome!". Don't get me wrong...just that we could've gotten some stuff from the newer styles. I wish we had The Strong Jaeger, or Ixion.
Other than that, I commend Konami releasing Beatmania.
P.S. Does anyone know finger positions? I'm having a tough time... _________________

DJ Tenku - Mod your turntable. Either do the slipmat mod or try loosening the screw or tightning it (it could be either or) under the turntable. I'd deffinaitly do the slipmat mod.
I had the same problem when I started IIDX with the screen falling. It will take some getting used to.
Yeah, the buttons arnt pianoesque.
Oh for the finger position, its just whatever feels comfortable, either one hand or two hand. It also can depend on songs too. I personally just do whatever is comfortable for the song. Some songs I play with two fingers (lol silvia drive) and some I play mostly with one hand (Colors) (both on L7). _________________

This is my first beatmania, and I really like it.
The menu music for when you select game or options or free mode and crap is god-awful though. _________________

I wouldn't worry about Konami failing with this beatmania release. The way I see it, it's just history repeating itself. Remember when DDR USA was released for PS1, and how rare it became to find it at stores? I wouldn't be surprised if the next US beatmania was named "beatmania: Konamix"! I believe Konami knows what they're doing, so don't fret. We may see a preview of the sequel at E3 this year. I wanna add that I've picked the game up right after work today. When I got to EB I had zero problems getting it but I want to add that I might've been to only one that reserved it reason being that when I told the clerk that I was picking it up, I didn't even mention my name! They probably just looked for their one reciept that listed "beatmania" on it and figured out I was the right guy! _________________

We got 3 at the local EB. 1 guy had it pre ordered so that left 2. I looked at it but didn't buy. Controller is as good as KO? _________________

I got mine this afternoon. The mall I went to has two EB Games, the first one said they didn't have it. Then I went to the next one and asked and they pulled it out from under the counter in its huge a$$ box.
I like it thus far, though have only played 5-key and the songs aren't that great on 5-key, I'm suspecting I'll like the IIDX songs better. I don't own any of the JP BM IIDXs but I've played my friends 5th-8th style he has a long time ago, I still have some of my skills!
Is it just me or is the life bar difficulty really lenient, I remember failing songs on JP 7th that I've passed on US. _________________

I've played it a bit now. I like how they got songs that are not as recent, but I do kind of wish they put newer songs from Red or Happy Sky. I can't really complain about the songlist because it has tracks that I like, and I haven't found a song that I utterly despise yet.
The controller is responsive, but the turntable is extremely sensitive and I keep getting my combos broken because of some of the turntable sections have pauses in them, and the turntable responds to the slightest motion when I don't want it to.
I absolutely love the MGS Theme Remix. Easily the best song in this game, imo. Nemesis comes in at a close second for me.
Anyways, does anyone now if the credits are skipable? I liked them the first 5 times but having to look at them after every 3 song play gets annoying after a while.
Overall, the songlist is fantastic, but it could have used a little more of the recent songs.
And V is in what I think is the 6th CS Beatmania release in a row. Can't spell revival without V, right? _________________

Well, I might as well post my impressions so far. Keep in mind that I'm experienced with IIDX (though nowhere near a "master" at the game, to be sure):
- I like the licenses (all 8 of them), most especially the Wavegroup covers.
- beatmania mode didn't last very long. It really needed Anothers.
- The sync on all songs (except for those notorious few old ones - e-motion, etc.) is great.
- AAA's are given out like candy. It puts a terrible ceiling effect on grades for people who are at ALL decent at timing.
- The exception seems to be those few off-sync songs. Those C's amid a sea of AAA's stick out quite a bit.
- I got used to the "Perfect" judgment message fast. It's not screwing up my rhythm (FYI for those unfamiliar with the game: It's instead a flashing "Great" in the Japanese versions. Makes a slight visual difference for beatmania US, since the word "Perfect" is a bit longer and occludes just a bit more of the note lanes).
- The color scheme for the UI is freakin' awful. WHY did Konami choose purple as the predominant color? Blue would have looked nice, or hell, just the normal 9th style interface.
- Boo for the old days of "Play the song in 'Arcade Mode' to unlock it in Free Mode rearing their ugly heads for this release. That's not been true of the last several CS styles in Japan.
- The new videos are pretty sweet. They remind me of the brand new videos Konami made for DDR EX 2.
Has anyone (who is much better at high level Anothers than I) checked for an Extra Stage in Game Mode? _________________

You can hold Start and the Credits skip I believe. Damn yeah I'm pretty sure the difficulty is the same. I just had to start playing IIDX "Normal" and get owned by Bad Boy Bass and Colors "Beginner". I love how Konami saves the hardest parts of the songs until the end so you can think you're doing hot and then fail miserably at the end. _________________

Depends on if you think you'll like Beatmania. If you like music games and don't mind needing to practice this a lot you probably will like it. I'm pretty sure Konami was aiming at all the people who were interested in beatmania but had no access to the Japanese versions. _________________

Is it just me or is there no way to get the controller part of the screen on the right side by itself. My friend who plays on the right side is trying to figure out why the notechart scrolls on the 1P side when he's using the 2P slot.
This is just stupid. _________________
