You make no sense. If you can already play it fine, why are you asking for a method with which to practice reading it? _________________

I think (but this is a stretch) he meant to say "Is playing MaxX Unlimited 1.5x a good way to practice for Drop Out 2x shuffle?" but got it backwards. Looking at it that way, his reply makes slightly more sense. And to take it further, maybe he was referring to MaxX Standard, which has a lot of jumps. _________________

sonic66 wrote: | Can some1 help me with Drop Out?? Im stuck on the 2 parts where you have to hit 2 arrows at at time for about 10 times. How did you fellow DDRers do it? If i play the song, i can get every beat, but when those parts come up, i usually step off till the single arrows come on and do great. i know theres the 4 or 5 and i can hit them, but jumping takes up alot of time to hit em. what is the best way to hit all of 'em? I know theres someway in the second part where down is hit the whole time so im guessing you memorize it, stand sideways, and keep one foot hitting the down and the other hitting the other ones. Gimmie some help guys !! |
Stay low to the pad, don't jump to high, try to imagine yourself sitting in an invisible swivel chair and hitting the arrows with your legs by pushing them down. Stay close to the middle and shift your body. Sadly, the part I have trouble with is the end. I just can't read the arrows fast enough. _________________

Anyone have tips for moving faster? Like I can do V (Oni) where you step on the same two arrows for a little bit, but I am having huge trouble switching to different arrows. I have big trouble with Fantasy (Melissa), and I've never managed to get much of the last part in Sakura... I think... I've played all three of those songs many times, too. Help? _________________

Does anybody have any hints as to how to have a lot of stamina and can breath and pass any song (except really fast hard songs like 10s) w/o dying of breath loss? _________________

run a mile a day for a month and I guarantee you'll have enough stamina to pass LoM with ease. Worked for me. Either that or work your buttocks off on DDR...your pick. _________________

I actually progressed through DDR this way. I quickly passed through the feet by basically easing my way into them--if my comfort zone was, say, 5-footers, I'd try a 6-footer about once every two sets of 3 songs or so, and basically slowly increase the ratio each time I play. Then I'd just raise everything a foot. Eventually, I got to the point where I can basically do 9s for about an hour and a half straight and feel about as good as you'd expect for a person who just worked out for 90 minutes.
The downside to this method: Because I progressed through the feet so quickly, my PA was well below average for awhile because I never really stopped to work on it--getting an A on a song was good enough for me, as long as I could do it and still be in relatively good shape afterward. Basically, it was at the point where amongst the people at my college (Franklin Pierce of New Hampshire), I could pass songs that only one other person could pass, but there were probably three or for other people that, put into a tournament situation, I would probably lose to them because their PA on songs they could pass was better than mine.
So yeah, it basically comes down to "work your buttocks off at DDR." _________________

Things I have Learned Recently:
DDR at home is infinitely different from DDR in the arcade.
But one cannot truly appreciate the gaping difference until one has failed MAX in the arcade when one can do it at home.

Okay, two issues:
1. Step-jump-step-jump patterns, particularly at anything so much as approaching a fast tempo, absolutely kick the crap out of me. I know ITG's Driving Force Classical has some of these; what are some other songs, either PS2 DDR (Any US mix will do) or the first ITG, that I can do to hopefully suck at them less?
2. (Only indirectly related to arrow-smashing) My cardio conditioning, relative to my leg strength, is weak (I can get through MAX 300 with basically no ill effects as regards my lower body, but I'm winded as hell afterward). As I've said a couple times before, I attempt to use DDR as part of an overall fitness routine (Alternating it with upper-body work from day to day). This is a shot in the dark, but does anyone know of any upper-body exercises that will also strengthen my cardio? Or does it just come down to "lift weights fast"? _________________

Doesn't even come down to that... weight training and cardio training are two entirely different things. |

I would agree if I used a soft pad, but since I have the cobalt flux with arcade mod, the two are EXTREMELY alike, although, timing window in home is probably bigger, but I think pretty much they are the same, it just all depends on the setup. |

For anyone who can pass most catas but is having trouble starting to PA, going back to light 4- and 5-footers really helps. I got my first AAA the day I started doing this after over two years of playing DDR, and now less than a week later, I'm consistently passing 7s and 8s with fewer than 10 arrows that aren't perfect.
On the other hand, how on earth am I supposed to read arrows in the Legend of Max and Maxx Unlimited? I wouldn't even know if I have the stamina for these songs, but if I can't even move my eyes fast enough, how could I possibly do so with my feet? |

Since the search function practically cracks at the mere mention of the word, and there isn't a whole lot of discussion about it. .
I want to get better at doubles, but don't really know what songs could help. I can read the arrows fine, and end up double-stepping a bit, but there's some things that are a bit harder than others.
For instance, I can pass Holic and Dxy! just fine in Heavy ( hell, I did just fine the first time I played them ), since the stepping makes more sense. But then there's the insane crossover-thru-the-middle songs.
So besides the cliché, "Practice practice practice!" what would be some good songs to. . well, practice on? |
