Ubisoft's latest dance game, Flow: Urban Dance Uprising, takes a different path from most dance games by offering a single genre soundtrack. Can its hiphop based tunes be enough to pull you in? Find out in our review.

Very nice review. Short, but pretty much sums up most of my thoughts about the game. I picked this up a day or two ago, and it really is a solid title.
While the game may not be as difficult as other dance games in some areas, it certainly is pretty hard in others. Playing a song on Expert that lasts 2:45 can be relatively draining if you're not used to it. And some of the score-based missions in the Street mode take a little while to pass.
I find the double-arrow "chain" to be very helpful, especially when 16th notes are involved. As the arrows fly up, it can be very hard to tell sometimes if there's a gallop or a double-step without the chain graphic.
One thing I noticed is that the game's scroll rate is noticibly faster than in DDR or ITG. All songs in the game have BPMs ranging from 90-130. It feels like I'm playing DDR on 2x sometimes, but the smaller arrow graphics mask that a bit.
Again, solid game. But outside of the wonderful music and "power icons" I've yet to encounter, the gameplay is still too similar to the DDR formula to be a truly "break-out" game in the genre.
But hey, at least I'm SDGing stuff on Expert! (Oops, I mean "Single Digit 'Fine'-ing". My bad.) _________________

"Get On Da Mic" comes to mind when I look at this game... and I shiver. |

Actually, I haven't done the research, but I thnk Flow was orignally the game "Get on da Floor." There is even a song titled that in the game. I don't know why they changed the name to Flow. GODF would have been a catchier title I think. |

Is this game kind of worth playing??
I looked at the screen shot and the game box cover. It's waaaaaaaaaay too similar to DDR. _________________

The game was only recently obtained for review. That pretty much sums it up. |

If you play solely on Expert, some of the step patterns will really throw you for a loop. I'd put it a shade under DDR in terms of difficulty, but lets face it. Even a "shade" under DDR difficulty is still pretty difficult.

You'll never truly know until you try it. I did, thinking it would be a big rip off with nothing to offer. But in actuality, its a big rip off with a cool urban music selection! (The Brakes, for example.) _________________

Now for the record, you can't sue a GAME. A game is an inanimate object, with no money to sue for and no cognitive skills to speak of.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft, Highway 1, and A2M are targeted in the near future, as all were involved the development/publishing of Flow. _________________

Konami won't sue Ubisoft or Highway 1 or A2M because this game is not a threat to DDR like PIU and ITG. The situation may be different if Ubisoft made an arcade cabinet for this game. This is probably the reason why the makers of Dance Praise weren't sued. _________________

I picked up the game after realizing it existed from this thread. It's a good game, but lacks noticible rap music. The rap station from GTA:San Andreas >> Flow for soundtrack.
Chart difficulties are tough, tougher than what I was lead to believe from reading this, some solid 9 footers certainly. If I were making steps for this game, I would not have made them soo hard. Oh and I had a 2-Fine FC on Taurus Expert, as long as that song is available those score based missions are easy. _________________

May I remind you that Konami is suing Mad Catz for their "MC GROOVZ Dance Craze" game? It's not a "threat" to Konami either, nor does it have an arcade version or even potentially infringe upon Konami's DDR cabinet patents. _________________
