Recently I've been using my RO Afterburner, I've had it for about... 9 months, and 2 months ago the down arrow stopped working.

I opened it up and when they laid down the panel they laid a wire in such a way it would become kinked and possibly snapped over time inside the wire's rubber casing. Well I went ahead, stripped the wire removed the kinked section and replace the wire and sodered it together, overall a good job and relayed the wire flat and smooth.

Now 2 months later the down arrow has stopped working again. My birthday is also soon, and DDR Str!ke is on its way to my house, and my parents offerred to give me an early birthday present of a CF or a new RO AB.

My problem is this: I've loved the AB as my first metal pad and I enjoy the challenge depressed arrows provides, unlike soft pads where "skidding" becomes a cheap alternative to stepping. And I'm not sure if the CF can live up to what I've come to know and love of the AB.

My question to you, the DDR community is this: Which is overall better, in terms of play comfort, durability, realism (arcade), and reliability? CF or AB.

Thanks in advance =)

Id go Cobalt Flux. You can get the arcade kit for a CF and make your pad have recessed arrows. Problem solved.

I've played on both, I have a CF and my friend got an AB, and I have to say that in terms of which I like better I would have to say I like the CF better.

The first thing I noticed about the AB was that the arrows are... spongey is the only word i can think of to describe them, whereas the CF has a firmer feel, which to me is more like the arcade.

Also, like Patrick said, you can get the arcade mod for your CF for about 30 with shipping I believe, and Cf will install it for you.

I also seemed to do worse on the AB, maybe because I'm just used to my CF, but either way I find the CF more reliable.

Now the spongey feel of the AB I mentioned earlier, you'd think it would be more comfortable because it's softer, but I found that it was more uncomfortable, probably also because I'm used to firmer surfaces for playing DDR.

Since I haven't had mine for too long yet, I really don't know first hand about the durability, but other have had theirs for years and they still work so I don't think it should be an issue.

Your Welcome in advance =)

I'd say Cobalt Flux with arcade mod as well. The Afterburner's arrows are too recessed for me so I usually hit my foot on the center panel, and I also noticed that spongy feeling E15.gif

I've had my CF for 2 solid years of heavy DDR and expert ITG, and it's still in perfect condition. Buy the arcade mod and print some sexy decals and you can't get anything better.

DO NOT POST A "WHICH PAD SHOULD I GET?" OR A "PAD X VS. PAD Y" THREAD.
If you're trying to choose between two or more pads, then post IN THE THREADS FOR THOSE PADS. Do NOT make a new thread for this.

DO NOT POST A "WHICH PAD IS THE BEST?" THREAD.
If you really want to know, do some research. You'll narrow it down pretty quickly. Do *NOT* post a thread asking for information that you could have easily found by looking - why should anyone else exert effort on your behalf when you were too lazy to find out yourself?

Geez, who called the rent-a-mod? Take it easy on the guy, he just wanted some feedback without searching through over a hundred pages worth of info. There's a valid discussion going on here, I don't see why you had to swoop in and try and earn some brownie points without adding to the discussion, at all.

Now...

If you can score a CF for free, I'd say go for it. They've been shown to be the best for durability, while I've heard some sketchy stuff about AB's. I've never seen anyone complain about their CF, but I've seen quite a few about the AB.

Thank you all for your input, and with it I decided to order a CF w/ Arcade style mod kit this morning.

Oh and oha, this thread is perfectly valid because I have had several points I wanted opinions on and explained a situation to see what others thought would best fit me. If this was a real problem, a real mod would have shown up. And ummm thanks for your input?

Seriously. We were all having a good time helping you out and all...then BOOM. xl;kjadghax or whoever a-bombs us and tries to kill the thread.

And good move with getting the CF. Its nothing but good shining reviews that Ive seen from that pad. The only down side is uh..no bar? But then..some may consider that a good thing. Still, you got a CF. E4.gif

^^ Yeah I'm psyched that plus Str!ke on its way = DDR Heaven

From anyone who has a CF already, does it really have the arcade spacing feel? It claims too, but then again so does the Afterburner and it is different enough to me noticable. They all say "Just like Arcade!!!" but we all know the spacing and feel is a tad different.

Just wondering if its the same deal...or the real deal. Thanks.

(Btw DJ Zylch, I ordered it w/ the arcade mod but I culdn't find a place to pick "Install for me" or something, do they just do it automatically when you order them both at the same time? If not no biggie its not like its too hard to figure out XD)

I've played on arcade pads since 2001 played on soft mats at home, all the while complaining about the sliding. Finally, last month I got a CF for home. I can now kick myself, look in the mirror and scream in the reflection, "WHY did I wait THIS long to get it? You idiot!"

j/k about the self abuse of course but the feel is wonderful.

It's perfect. Complete arcade feel to me (without the pesky stomping due to worn arcade sensors) I'm in the process of building the wooden frame/base mod and a back bar to kick these 11 and 12 footers into action!

Ugh Don't start a flame war but, you should play ITG before you say anything and try the new settings. It is really fun and A LOT more challenging than DDR.

ANYWAY, good move getting the CF. You won't be disappointed.

And youve of course played both games, right? ITG =\= DDR, the only thing they have in common is the fact you stomp on arrows.

And I personally love both ITG & DDR as well.

Ive played ITG, i didnt like the advanced style, the arrows looked like they where done in paint.
I prefer things more simple but im fine with the fact that it exists, and its ok if you like it.
Sorry i didnt make this clear in my first post.
