It's most likely due to little RAM (probably not) or a bad videocard. You might of already done this, but did you check the stepmania minimum requirments?
If you have met all the requirements, try downloading drivers for your computer and/or videocard. |
SimX, I know you haven't posted in awhile, but I found out what you can do to fix your stepmania skipping. Instead of buying a videocard or RAM, go to the stepmania options, and then go to graphic options. Once you are in, turn down your resolution size (even to 300 if you have to). It will result in a little distorted graphics, but the gameplay is so much smoother.
Since the gameplay is smoother, you can load alot of different themes that take up more memory than the default theme (ITG, Beta60, etc...).

One of my problems is that when I downloaded a DDR Extreme theme, it came wiht characters. When I select the character, the crashed and said canot find blah blah blah...

Character guy: You need the bones files, probably.
Autoplay guy: Press F8 when a song is playing.

You put the theme under themes and label it DDR Extreme, you put the announcer under announcers and label it DDR Extreme Announcer, you put the characterss under characters and DL the bones from [url="http://www.stepmaniathings.com"]here[/url] so your characters can dance (they go into characters too, but not in a folder).You put all the CD Titles, or small little images (if you have any) in the CD titles loder, they are what is in the top right of a song on Extreme Arcade. Lastly, your songs folder should look like this:
Songs>DDR Extreme>A>A.mp3, A banner.png, A bg.png, A.sm/A.dwi/both
BTW, where'd you get this DDR Extreme pack?

I downloaded the package using something called eTomi PRO. It downloads music, video, programs, anything!
And where is the label thing? I think my Stepmania is different because during the installation it said it was a "Non-Copyrighted Game". |

Alright, I just downloaded stepmania, and I have two problems. The first is that it skips. I've tried doing everything, but turning down the resolution size makes the screen smaller....
My other problem is that if I press an arrow when there's nothing on screen, I'll get a good, and then I won't be able to press the next arrow. How can I fix this?

1. Put the screen on windowed view.
2. Your timing is messed up, set it to 4.

Thanks, I fixed the timing windows. But is there any way to turn the resolution down while still having Stepmania take up the whole screen?

Well by what you're describing, I'd say you've got a problem with your video card. If it doesn't change resolution while still full-screen, then I'm not sure what's wrong.

Don't think anyone's asked this yet, but OK. It's basically the same as a song. You go into the Courses folder, make a banner 256x80, create a text document (relabeled as EXAMPLE.crs) and put in the #TILTE:EXPMAPLE; like a .sm, then boot up SM, open the edit courses menu, and start being creative.

You have to find it in game progrm and fix it. I don't know exactly how to because I could never find it. Does anyone have any idea why the themes don't work for me? I install them all, and I open Step Mania. Then it says I have too many errors and it crashes. This only happens with the other themes I have downloded. Do I have the most update version? 3.9.9? Or is it something else?

Not the game program/.ini, but the theme's metrics. it's about 7/8 down maybe, there's a section that has all the mods. The lines should look like:
| Code: | | Speed,#=mod,MOD;name,NAME |
Add that in below everything and label it 1 number higher than the last one. For example, mine looks like:
| Code: | | Speed,13=mod,C510;name,C510 |
Then above all the speeds, since I now have 12 speed mods instead of 11, I change the number to 12 (there's a little line above all the speed mods that's something like "Speed=11". This is what I'm talking about)
