|
|
Okay, here's the story. Me and my friend just got done with doing DDR at my school for some talent show. Lots of people absolutely loved it (especially when our chemistry teacher gave it a try ). But anyway, there's this one teacher that's VERY interested in getting it started at our school. She wants to bring the idea to the administration to get it started as a club and/or leisure activity (maybe even a gym one).
I've heard about those stories that have been going on in the Virginia schools. Those schools have DDR now as a gym activity.
Well, I'm making this thread for some help. How can we approach the administration? Is there any number we can call to get information about a school program for DDR?
What we're thinking about is pointing out the health benefits of DDR. We also seek to mention the other school that have had it and the posivite influence on students. We still need a number we could call though.
We really hope to get this started at our school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Side note: We don't seek to get an arcade cabinet (altough that would be very nice). We have to fundraise money for DDR at our school. |

We started a gamers club (club for video gaming, card games, ect.) and got DDR started up @ my school. The gaming club idea works so well beacuse it covers all fields of gamers, not just one. _________________

I think giving the administration some info about how successful these clubs are at other schools and its advantages are is a good thing. Do some research on it, you're bound to find something. Make sure you also mention its popularity during the talent show, since interest is a very important thing when it comes to clubs. |

You need to look at it in realistic terms.
The most appropriate thing to try and get is a school club for DDR/ITG.
Trying to get it as a gym program would be extremely difficult because most gym classes stick to more traditional style of activity like Basketball or Soccer.
In order to get the club running, start a petition of people who would want to join it (maybe 50 people or so) and then show it to the administration. If there is a demand for a club, then there should be no problem creating one.
Also, if the club gets very large, you COULD try to advocate the gym program if everyone in the club is behind you on it. |

Could someone tell me a few of the programs various organizations have done to promote DDR in school and health club settings to present to some administrative overseer? _________________

Have you been under a rock for the past month? :\
If an entire STATE added DDR to a Physical Education course then it must be something special. |

I know about that one... thanks for turning a simple question into a flame though, I deeply appreciate your help.
I was hoping for a more comrehensive list. I know the are some organizations that really promote the fitness aspect of DDR, but I cant remember any of them right now... so it's not like I can go searching for a name for info. Maybe I could look up fitness or something, but I have a feeling I'd get a whole lot of "DDR in school" threads. _________________

Not a flame, I'm pointing out how that information alone should be enough.
However, if you really want another organization try www.getupmove.com |

I should've mentioned that we want to start it as a club. I've already compiled evidence of health benefits and weightloss. I even have stories printed out of the Virginia school adopting DDR into their gym classes.
What I still need is a contact number for DDR pads, information, supplies, and such that would support this school movement. Are there any school-like packages out there for DDR?

Oh wow; this website is perfect. This is yet more evidence we could use to approach our administration. Thanks. |

There aren't any "school packs" but there are whole sale prices.
Good communication, a good presentation with PowerPoint ought to impress them!
School talent show, never thought of that. Maybe i should try to get our small 1B school to get more programs.......... _________________

Don't worry about it; "living under a rock" is just a figure of speech.
A note to everyone:
If you REALLY want to impress your administration (gym teachers in particular) the specific term for the exercise DDR/ITG uses is called Advanced Plyometrics. If you use this to advocate DDR, the coaches will be all over your idea because Plyometrics is huge is sports like Hockey, Football, Basketball, etc. at the moment.
Damn, I should make an "Advocate DDR/ITG to your school's curriculum" topic. |

I typed up a report and I didn't submit it yet (I'm In the sixth grade but I gave a copy to my teacher). I told my friends I typed a report and one said Quote: | We're not to dance at this school. | and I was like OM (It's a Christian school so I can't Put G) and I was like Nevermind, I don't care if we are not allowed to dance at this school I'm going to submit it anyways. _________________

Not allowed to dance?! And this is a Christian school? Time to drag out the Bible, reference Psalms 149 (Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song.... (skipping a bit) ....Let them praise his name in the dance), Samuel (David danced before the Lord with all his might), and Ecclesiastes (To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven, INCLUDING a time to dance). Gotta love the movie Footloose sometimes... |

Actually I watched Footloose earlier in the week, and I remember that part. Hey, if you want to get the priests and nuns thinking in your direction, quote The Good Book.
What might be a good idea is that if you know of a teacher willing to sponsor the school DDR club, maybe also be an advisor, get quite a few people together to play, and invite that teacher to observe. Maybe if you also know an administration or board member, invite them as well. While playing, explain some of these advantages to physical effort. It also helps you become a tiny bit musically inclined (I notice here that a lot of drummers play DDR), since playing does help with your rhythmic timing. Yes you're playing your feet and not wrists, but it helps put your brain in the mode of timing to any BPMs. |
