Don't bash dancing monkeys unless you could code a better version yourself.
On second thought, I highly doubt that you've even know how to program, given how you've so quickly dismissed all of the work that KarlOKeeffe put into the program, and the fact that he has provided it free of charge to the stepmania community.
Try browsing though his report, then maybe you'll get an idea of what a good program it is. |

Mark,
It runs great. I am running Win2k and just got it all working. I had to grab the .NET 2.0 framework, before which I had to upgrade my windows installer to version 3.1. You might want to put on your site that people need to grab the "Redistributable" package, else you are going to get questions about "which one do I get to run this," as it's not terribly clear to the normal everyday user.
My wishes:
1. It had some sort of audio cue when it was finished with the batch (a "play system sound" or something). I am running it in the back of the house and would like to get a notify when it's done.
2. Allow the user to pick between using the regular Dancing Monkeys exe (which cuts the song down to 140 seconds) or the patched version that does the whole song (the one icywindow made), if the file dmpatch.exe is in the \bin\win32 directory.
You did an excellent job! Thank you for your hard work on this.

Simply amazing program.
What astounds me the most at how gosh darn accurate it is at finding the BPM. Yeah, the stepchart creation could use a little more... density. But for what it's worth and understanding the difficulties of computer programming... this is a huge achievement.
Sure, people will have their bugs, and their critiques, and their traditional moaning and groaning. But Kind sir, I give you a heaping pile of respect and cookies for even attempting to do something like this.
Thank you. _________________

use the cd command to change directories
e.g.
C:\>cd dmonkey
C:\dmonkey\>
once there, just type the name of the executable |

No, switch to the directory that has the executable in it. Don't move the program because then it can't find the files it needs. i.e. do this:
Code: | cd C:\Dancing Monkeys 1.0\Dancing Monkeys\bin\win32 |
Then issue your dancing monkeys command:
Code: | "Dancing Monkeys.exe" "C:\Documents and Settings\LESS THAN WILL\Shared\Ali G In Da House Soundtrack - m-beat ft. general levy - Incredible (Booyaka Mix).mp3" 3 6 9 "C:\Program Files\StepMania\Songs\DANCING MONKEYS\" |

I love using dancing monkeys to find my BPM and gap, I just wish there was a way to tell it not to put the pauses into the songs. I understand this would come in handy on a song that actually has pauses, but I keep putting in songs that just stay steady and it's doing it. _________________

the only part that doesnt work is the second code...i get " 'Dancing' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. " |

To use dmpatch.exe in MegaMark16's Front End, simply rename the patch "DancingMonkeys"
Oh, and Mark, it really is excellent. I would have liked the cmd window to have remained open after the job is done, however, successful or not. It would have been helpful in determining what happens (especially when there is an error). I don't know if you can even control that, so it might not be your problem.
Overall, I can just say that if the n00bs use your program, the board might not have another repeat question posted. Vwoot! _________________

Mark, your program is really great and small.. but the .NET 2.0 required for me 275Mb to install and took more than 10min to install after the download! Personally I find it a little ridiculous. I think if you could make it run without the need for the .NET it would be great. |

I have checked other songs that I have and the majority are in mp3 format; whenever I use dancing monkeys its output is wav format.
is there a way to set it to output as mp3?
otherwise I suppose I am stuck with what I have been doing. I have used audacity and converted the wav back to mp3 and then went into the *.dwi and *.sm editing them to use an *.mp3 instead of the *.wav file.
but it would be cool to be able to skip all that. |

Hi all,
<excuse me from my bad english>
i use the patch "dmpatch.exe", it's right but WHY THE SONG IS SO EASY ?
I explain the problem :
- i encode a song with 3 5 8 parametre whith DancingMonkeys.exe (v 1.01) and the song is really hard but it limited at 105s (no problems yet).
- i encode the same song with dmpatch and the same parametre but it's so easy ... and i don't understand why...
thinks to answer ^^ |
