Perhaps this will sound like sacrilege but do you know of anyone using a dance pad with other games? I was thinking it could be used with something like Pac Man or perhaps a downhill skiing game. I’m just looking for new stuff. Any ideas would be appreciated

Should be in the Bemani Controllers forum but since I'm here I'll answer it anyways.

No, other games don't really work with the dance pad. Unless they say so on the box. I've tried others and they don't work.

Actually, there are quite a few games that work with some pads. One that I tried was a skateboarding game laugh.gif

I have played the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater using a dancepad a few years ago. It was hard to do tricks but just skating around was pretty easy.

I once tried hooking my pad to an emulator and playing Sonic the Hedgehog. Hard. As. Heck.

I think there's a track meet game that you can play with the pad.

Other than that, not much.

My friend wants to figure out a way to play Halo with a dancepad. I think the "Legacy" thumbstick layout basically would allow you to move around with the 4 directionals and then if you chose some trigger layout that had one of the A, B, X, or Y buttons as a gernade button you might be able to do it... That would be horrible on XBOX LIVE: "OMG I pwned you by 4 kills!" "Well I was using a dancepad to play so take that!"

From Tips & Tricks on Growlanser Generations:

Secret Dance Pad Mode
At any time during Growlanser 3, plug a dance pad controller into the controller 2 port on the PS2. Whenever one of your party members casts a spell, a sequence of arrows will appear on the screen. If you press the arrows on the pad on the dance pad w/ the proper timing according to the arrows on the screen, you'll increase the effectiveness of the spell.

Never heard of this game, but hey. Someone must of...

Yes I was thinking of a way to use a Dance Pad with HALO too. I was thinking of using the Dance Pad for all of the leg movements E.g. Left, Right, Back, Jump and Crouch. I would still use a hand controller for everything else. I think this will require breaking out a soldering gun, but it could be worth it.

I played Athens 2004 the video game with one. It was really retarded. To run in Track and Field you had to alternate bashing left and right.

That forum is for discussing the controllers themselves. Threads like this usually get canned there.

As far as on topic goes, many games can be played on the controller, unless the require L1,L2,R1,R2. The first three versions of KR won't even start unless you hook up a real PS2 controller - evidently dancpads are not 'dualshock'. This was fixed in the most current KR (due to sing and dance mode) The FF series works fairly well, especially if you employ the memory cursor option and have a party which basically repeats the same actions. I find the non-dance games to be boring and unrewarding to play on a dancepad - they just aren't set up for it. The whole point of DDR is how the arrows make you step, lean, turn, and jump in certain ways.

Actually, before DDR was even thought of, Nintendo had the first jump at it with ,i think, only one game with it,Track and Field. Didnt go well, but now its popular with DDR. But it happened to another game console I know of. The Dreamcast had online capabilities and a headset option, but everyone hated the Dreamcast and the PS2 picked it up. Same concept, different accessories.

Tekken 5 is the best game to play with the dance pad. I actually got quite good at it and managed to pull off Armor King's 10 hit combo. E4.gif

I can hook my Dance Pad to a PC so they don't have to be PS2 Games.
