It depends on the people you ask. Some people like Pump it up, some people like DDR, and some people like ITG. Some people like a little bit of all three.
I personally don't like Pump it up (I won't list the reasons why for fear of starting a flamewar), but I'm not all OMG PIU SUXXORZ or whatever. _________________

I don't mind the 5 arrows at all. I kind of wish DDR had 5 arrows. The 3-step jumps are something I wish DDR had taken into account (maybe they'll put hands in Supernova?).
These are the reasons why I don't like PUI, and this is just my opinion. I hope I don't start a DDR vs. PUI battle here.
The first time I played it, I picked a song that had a 10 second sample of Think ya Better D. I was a noob back then and thought that they stole that sample or something, but I know better now.
I don't like the majority of the song selection. I really love the classical remixes (except Turkey March) and both Naissances, but all of the other songs I just feel are either way too happy and silly sounding, or way too basic.
The BG animations are also very ridiculous IMO.
There is a really easy difficulty and 4 really hard difficulties. I keep getting S grades and easy level songs, but keep failing the steps on the next difficulty level because there's no Normal mode.
That's all, but of course, the only PUI machine within 100 miles of where I live is Pump it up Perfect Collection, so I can't make a sure statement of my dislike of PUI. _________________

^ yeah, no
piu has the worst interface of the three dancing games (although it does look pretty), and you select songs w/your feet, making it very counter intuitive for new players |

Pump It Up has a bad history of terrible UI, long loading times, occasional lag and offsync arrows, and just plain ridiculous stepcharts. However, the songlists and graphics are, I believe, superior to DDR. That still doesn't make me want to play it more than DDR though because of the reasons above. _________________

I never have seen one PIU arcade in my area, but I do have Pump it Up Exceed for Ps2 and its song selection is alot better than alot of DDRs, mostly because it has music that everyone should already know (such as the conga song, that elvis song, name of the game..etc)
I think they are both equally fun and whoever said it had ridiculous stepchart is just some newb who sucks at PIU. Its much much harder than DDR. Easiest difficulty on PIU is about the same as Standard.
Ive never seen offbeat arrows, but the lag througout songs I feel ya there. Anyone who discredits it simply because you suck at it, thats just a moron who needs to be shot in the face.
Its a good game, and in the quote of PSM "Its more like dancing than DDR" |

Ohhhh, thanks a lot. That helped. It explained why I can't pass 20+ footers. Also, it helped me realize that a ten step jump is not in any way ridiculous. _________________

I don't like it for a few reasons:
1. I know slim-to-none of the songs. And I never did figure out how to get it to play the song preview... it just kinda sat there silently.
2. The arrows look way different. ITG was way easier when I tried that...
3. ... I suck at it.
The 5-arrow thing just seems confusing when you're used to four arrows. And it was cconfusing before I was used to four arrows... even though back then, I also had no knowledge of timing. The second and most recent time I played it, I think I was around 7-footers in DDR and still failed some really easy song.
And the horrible machine we have over here isn't helping. *pokes the bar and it tilts toward the machine* Costs three tokens, too... so yeah... bad impressinos so far. _________________

I just don't like it. Its harder to learn, and the sensors are too far apart. DDR is just more fun. |

People "look down on it" because they don't actually know what they're talking about, and they're ignorant fanboys who would never play anything other than DDR, no matter how fun or innovative it was. I'm sure there are exceptions, but that statement covers probably 80-90% of the PIU bashers (and probably a similar figure for ITG bashers). _________________

I don't think this is going in the right direction. Plus it doesn't have much to do with DDR. _________________
