Hi everyone,

First of all, I've been getting email from people asking me questions about the contest. I noticed some people throwing out questions to me here as well. So, here's a little FAQ I put together for y'all E13.gif

Q: Does Midihead know anything about the contest?
A: Negative. Only that I'm judging the "finalists".

Q: Will Midihead be listening to all the tracks that are submitted?
A: Nope, sorry. I'll be judging the "finalists" that make it through Konami's panel of judges.

Q: Can I submit a remix?
A: Only if you have exclusive rights to it. If you're planning on remixing someone else's tune, stop right there little camper and put away the tent.

Q: Can I use Fruity Loops, Reason or Acid?
A: Hell ya! So long as you're composition and production skills are what shine! For the record, I'm an avid fan of Acid (the program) and it is my primary source for tracking. I've been using it since it's introduction and have become quite proficient with it. But see, I'm not just pulling a bunch of loops into it...I'm pushing the envelope on it. It's not about the tools, it's about how you use them.

Q: Can I email you or post my question here and ask you about the contest?
A: Please refer to the first answer in this little FAQ.

Thanks guys! I can't wait to hear what you've got!

Oh, BTW I'll send a message to Konami and ask them if they can clarify the rules a bit more. It seems like a few of you need some clarification. Cool?

Cheerz,

Thanks Midihead for answering our questions. I would like to see more clarifications on the rules. Especially the 120 BPM rule.

Q: Would they make exceptions for songs that would fall under 120 BPM for a short period of time. Some examples would be the song Ecstasy(DDR Extreme) where it is slow for two areas of the song yet the rest of the song is above 120 BPM.

Q: How are they determining BPM for a song? Would this require to submit the BPM for the song we are releasing for submission?

Hopefully this will silence the minds of the "250 is nothing" set.

Cool. I have made about 10 DDR-inspired songs already, complete with banners. I'll get to work on some more. Good luck everyone.

Me so excited. E4.gif

I started "la noche estrellada" a while back, but never really did much with it. Trouble is, I started it in Finale PrintMusic, and it's all on a piano sound. It's nice, just not synth like it (probably) should be. Does anyone know if, since they're paying to use it, they might just reorchestrate your work if necessary?

Search for MIDIsoft Studio and do some REAL composing. Free program, full MIDI capability, piano roll AND score view options... You gotta be a GREAT composer, but it's worth it in the long run.

And... care to share remixes? I've remixed that tune before and am attempting it again with new technology. It'd be nice to hear an approach I haven't taken.

Well, I've finally zeroed-in on the piece I'm going to work on for this. I'll tell you right now in case you hate this style that it's going to be a fast song with distorted ribbon leads (Kind of like Maximizer). Don't worry, I have the catchiest themes in it and the second I put the tracks together, I'm posting it up for you guys. Then you can help me on where to go from there (add a aynth here, maybe a slowdown here, etc...)

Yes yes yes, I simmed three of his songs, The Five being the best. I would so love to see some new stuff from him on a future DDR.

Keep in mind though folks, now that Konami is bringing new DDR back into the arcades, maybe we'll see a steady update in mixes again, so the winners of this contest may very well appear in a new arcade mix before the end of the year is up.

F*** YEAH! I've got it downloaded already.

Yeah, for some reason I get errors when I try to upload mine, so I'll see to it I get some C&C on my work for the downtime.

"Attack"
Each and every note was clicked in by hand... and/or Cut 'n Pasted FROM that clicking in. It's a new take on my old version... adding some content as well as throwing in some good-natured Shamishen.

www.myspace.com/travisstebbins (It's the first song on the list)

Edit:SONUVA--!!!
IT COSTS ME $10 DOLLARS TO PUT UP THE SONG? WHAT THE F***!!!

*sigh* ah well. If I explain my plight to my parents, I can probably get off the hook... *shudders at the thought* (Note: Usually for this low of a sum of money I'd not worry, but due to certain situations I worry. No explanation at this time.)

Hmm...I'll have to give this a shot. I doubt I could come up with anything decent though. I can only make good rip-offs.

I'll be submitting mine end of this month. I've been working on it and I want it to be completely perfected before submitting it.

Props to Move Ove for Supernova, it's pretty damn funny...

If you want a basic analysis of mine, it's kind of a cross between Vanity Angel, Xenon, Maximizer, and Remember December. (Now I didn't actually splice them.) And it's also not as bad as you'd think by using elements of from very different dance genres. Some of my friends have already heard that super preliminary version and say its really energetic and catchy, so I think it's coming along fine. You guys will probably get a preview a week before I submit for feedback, aight?
