My slim PSTwo flip top got here yesterday (I ordered it from here). Here's my full review:

Cons:
- REALLY a pain to install
- Feels cheap
- Slightly bent; doesn't shut as well as the original lid
- Doesn't pop up when you press the button (you have to push it a little bit before the spring starts to work). This might be due to the additional weight. However, it isn't that big of a deal, since you really only need to use the inner lid. If it bothered me a lot, I'd find a stronger spring.

Pros:
- WORKS! (which is more than I can say for the magic switch)
- Simple/fast to use (all you do is put in the Swap Magic disc, wait for the menu, swap the SM disc with the game, and press Square)
- Doesn't come in contact with the disc (something I was initially worried about, because the plastic was a little bent)

So, if you have a PSTwo (v12), I'd say that the flip top is the way to go. It may not be the most elegant solution, but it works (and doesn't cost a lot).

same thing happened to me, so i went to circuit city and got the cheapest disc cleaner they had (cuz im poor) and then after i cleaned it, it was fine. idk if this will def. work but its a good fix and better than the cost of a new swap magic

so i fixed my swap discs with some homemade cd cleaner. (didn't have time to look for any) it was simple and clean. 1 quart of purified water and 1 DROP of dishwasher detergent. Mix it throughly until there is soap coming out, and there you go. E15.gif

I just got Dancing Stage Max. It is in PAL format and my PS2 and TV are in NTSC. Swap magic is able to run the game, but the timing is very off sync for the arrows. I've tried creating an ISO file and using programs to convert it. I have also tried adjusting the timing within the game. Neither works. Any suggestions?

Has anyone tried the DMS4, DMS-EZI 4, or any of the newer versions of the DMS? I was wondering how well the product was and if they all did indeed work.

Well, guess who just received his DDR EX JP in the mail and also guess who broke his PS2 trying to mod it?

I really want to play this game, and I don't really want to even try to mess with my new ps2. Has anyone tried this method? All I would need to buy is the magic swap disks, and I'd be good to go and play this game.

Or if anyone else has any other methods on playing import games with out buying/modding/ your ps2, please let me know!

That's kind of interesting...a homemade magic switch. I say go for it, but good luck getting the straw thing to work. erm.gif

Well, I ordered a magic swap kit along with the disk's at www.divineo.com, they had the best deal for the disks, and that left me with enough money to buy a nice RO adapter for when my Flux comes. biggrin.gif

I hope I have better luck with this than you Bob, but it was my only solution other than possibly breaking another PS2.

Some things to be aware of when installing the slim PSTwo flip top:

Be very careful after undoing the 6 screws and separating the two halves of the case. Start with the left side (left rear corner, then left front corner). It seems like there's a slight catch in the middle of the left edge - running a fingernail or creditcard along the seam may help to release it. The right edge is more difficult. Again, do the rear corner first. There's a bigger catch in the middle of the right edge - slipping something thin along the seam again helps release it.

It's very easy to bust off the SMT switch that's mounted behind the power button. No fun soldering this guy back in place when it breaks off - ask me how I know! Careful removal and replacement of the top half of the case is the key to keeping the switch intact. When removing the case, lift from left to right and back to front, so the right front corner is the last to come off. Reverse this when putting the case back together.

The two screws on the underside of the top half of the case that hold the lid onto the case are very small, and the Philips slots are very shallow. They seem like they'd be extremely easy to strip out. Luckily I had a screwdriver that fit perfectly - I'd be unwilling to try and muscle these guys out otherwise.

Ok, I want to mod my old PS2, and the flip top seems the best way to go. Don't want to sound retarded, and it's probably been asked, but what's the best one, and where do I get it, for how much, and how does it work, exactly? I'm not adverse to opening up my PS2, done it a few times to fix DRE, but I got no soldering experience.

REK: I've done it with an old ps2 -- doesn't require soldering experience. The place I bought mine from is no longer considered reliable, so I won't recommend it.

Whatever place you get it from, they should have instructions either with it or on their web site. You open the ps2 up, swap tops, and then carefully try to get it to close again. The big challenge is being careful of the cable that connects the power/eject button to the rest of the ps2 -- it's delicate, and the thing is going to be flopping around while you mod it. Just be careful and never force anything.

http://www.ps2cover.com/pstwofliplidswapmagic.shtml

hows that look? I wouldn't need anything else, the disk and cover is it?

And (wow?), while we're at it, does it play PS1 JP games? And is there no way around paying $70 for an import game? I know it's OT, but why aren't IIDX and DDR greatest hits or something? In Japan, obviously.

No, You need Breaker Pro to play PSone Games. Order someplace else, I read that site takes long time to send you your item.

Order from http://www.ps2fliptop.net/order.htmAlso they have a disc that let you play psone games.

Yes you will need Cover and disc.

Swap Disc to play PS2
Breaker Pro to play PSONE games...

Dont get that slidecard, its going to messup ur ps2.

Order the right disc, one is Pal and other is US.

If your using US PS2, You need US Disc. If using Pal then you will need Pal disc.

Okay my question now... hehe...
Anyone tell me how XBOX chip works?

I was thinking of geting playing Dancing STage on american system...

I know i need PAL Tv... but.... just help me... lol

Hi,

I'm already successfully running the import, DDR Extreme Japan, on my modded PS2. I have a slim PS2 with a Magic switch (and Swap Magic 3.6) mod that has worked great for Extreme. That particular DVD has a silver surface on it. I just received a copy of DDR Party Collection Japan and, even with the modifications on my PS2, the game isn't being recognized as a legitimate PS2 game. Party Collection has a purple coated surface. The company that makes the modification I use on my PS2 said that the purple color can indicate an added level of protection, which may be causing the problem. My thought was that maybe I can make a back up copy of my purchased game with a different color DVD-R that runs without a problem on modded US PS2s, and thus bypass the problem. Either that or I'd perhaps consider another mod.

Is anyone out there running Party Collection without a problem?

What do you all think? Any suggestions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
J

I run a DMS4pro in my PS2 and I can play all 5 JP PS2 titles effortlessly. The PS1s are a little more hit-or-miss, so I just got a JP PSOne. The idea of burning it to another disc should work, but I believe the Party collection is CD-based and not DVD-based.
