Well, that IS $250 US, which in Candian money is like $43,000, right?

Listen, as far as the prize is concerned, how much money do you think artists get paid for song usage licenses? An unsigned artist getting ANYTHING for a tune is an enormous thing, let alone cash AND rights AND exposure in a video game.

Like Midihead said, artists just trying to get noticed should be willing to do work for any amount of money until they can pad out their resumes with some work and begin to have some name recognition. I can tell you Armin van Buuren isn't going to enter this contest (wouldn't that be fun? E10.gif); in fact, you'll probably never have heard of any of the artists before, at least in the music industry. $250 for the rights to use their song once, and on a huge medium (DDR), without the artist losing rights to the song, is pretty good.

Good luck to those who enter! I'm really excited to hear about this contest! biggrin.gif

Just remember that hardware does not equate to better music... and neither does your choice in software. FL Studio is capable of practically anything the more expensive programs are, so don't downplay it. There's plenty of very talented artists (and pro producers) who use FL because that's what they're comfortable with, and know that the musician determines the quality of music. It's possible that someone with no equipment at all could be the winner here. Who knows.

I wouldn't doubt it.
I would. It won't be happening - the timeframe is too short.

And since arnoct didn't get the memo...

For the record, yes, the winner(s) will be credited for their songs both in-game and in the game credits, as opposed to 5th Mix's terse reference to STM.

Midihead, if you're still reading this...will the backgrounds include artist info on the opening screen, kinda like how it worked with (off the top of my head) Ordinary World? I believe some of the ADD artists also had their name and a URL on the opening background image for their songs in UM2.

whats wrong with that? it would really impress me if a song of nothing but classical music was on DDRNova

But then again, it could. I remember someone posting in the DDRSN thread that they received a response from someone at Betson saying that production will begin in May. If they are determining a winner in April or March, 1-2 months seems like enough time to add one song.

Otherwise.... *starts speculating another arcade mix... oooohhh *** lol j/k.

Exactly. Like people said above, it's not the money that counts, its the publicity and the fact that you are getting your name out there for FREE and people are listening to your song. Many indie artists give away tons of their music for free so they can become known by the public. Also, it looks good on your record as an artist.

Trust me, I could do it. Heck, I could just use some of my previous pieces that I've spent lots of time on for this, but I don't have the resources to pull together the performers that my pieces require. I get commisions for huge choral works and orchestra pieces. I can rearrange them for less instruments, and even add in some parts for some synth. beat, but the point is renting out a recording studio and paying (or atleast finding enough friends) musicians would break me. Needless to say it would cost more than the reward of 250 to make such a track.

I'm considering re-arranging some of my solo work for piano synth. and other synth parts. It sucks that I don't have a way to take some vocal samples. Curse this project for coming out before I am prepared for it! I just graduated from music school at college! frust.gif

Anyway, my best bet is to use Reason to convert one of my piano works into a remix. Now, I just have to go find one with a good beat...

It would be awesome if all the music composers could get together to elaborate each others works before submission to the contest.

If anyone wants in email me at [email protected]

Wow, I've never made a piece of music in my life! But I'm gonna try just to say I took part. And who knows, maybe it'll actually be a good song? E1.gif

There is no thought process in them, so they will say retarded things ala DDR Super Nova thread. 1900+ posts and 200 of them are actually discussing the game with thought.

With that said, the winner will not be from DDRFreak.

Being an idiot doesn't mean you can't be a musician laugh.gif .

With that said, I really hope we get plenty of DDR Freak entries. The people know what the people like, and I've seen enough forums about favorite and least favorite songs that our musicians should know what the community wants.

Hey, did anyone else see the time limit? Between 1:30 and 7:00? Could this be a hint to what the future of DDR holds?

Well I thought the Stepmix contest was kinda cool..... this is like.... AWESOME! I'm definitely going to participate in this.

I'm also wondering if one person can submit multiple pieces or not, and that time limit is kinda confusing... should we aim for regular DDR length or not? E10.gif hmmm

I'm going to go ahead and say that song lengths are probably going to remain the same. What I expect them to do with the longer entries that win is maybe cut them down to proper length. Hell, half of the songs already in DDR have longer, full versions.

And yeah, best of luck to anyone entering. I've only ever tinkered around with Reason. I know I get the occasional masterful idea, but I simply don't have the skill to make it possible.

I expect something ridiculously good to come of this competition.

Wow... I missed a lot!

I don't know if I can make it... truth be told, a Korg 05R/W (General MIDI) and an E-MU Audity (Techno) synth can only go so far. But I'll take a crack at it. Pretty much the only thing I've ever written that's CLOSE to DDR caliber is Attack... well... Here. You guys tell me.

So, who should I expect to be going up against? It'd be nice to know my opponents (Read: People who will beat me rather soundly) before the gun goes off to start.

Jesus Christ, finding the winners of this contest is going to be like Where's Waldo times 100,000.

ZIMMAH!
That sounds about right... What scares me most is that someone with that setup will most likely beat me.
Sad thing is, I can only really write in General MIDI and a few sounds from my Audity Synth. It doesn't make for much, but... I guess it'll make me an exception to the Fruity loops and Casio keyboard army of fanboys/fangirls...

EDIT: Oops... sorry 'bout the double post.

Again, that's untrue. Musicians are the ones who determine the quality of their music, not the tools they use.

Perhaps I wasn't forceful enough. No. It won't be happening - this has been confirmed to me. SuperNOVA will be out too soon for that.
