I've been hearing a lot of tales of success with DDR as a weight loss tool, but I've never seen a full picture of what it takes to lose weight with DDR. I've been doing an hour of DDR a day Monday - Thursday every week for over a year and I've shaved off about 20 pounds, but others seem to have much more success. I'm sure some of you must have had some success losing weight with DDR So I have a few questions for you.

How long do you play and how often?
Do you make any changes to your diet?
What's the best level for weight loss?
Any other tips?

Anything anyone has to offer would be welcomed. :^)

A diet change will have a humongous influence. Also play harder charts.

stay off the fatty stuff; once you eat it, you'll haveta burn it off, so with all the fat n stuff, the difference isn't great.

plus, if you eat healthier, you'll tend to make healthier choices with better results.

Since I dropped 50 in a year from playing this wild game, I'll answer your questions, and unlike someone here, honestly.

Non-stop 7-8 footers. If you're good, though, throw some 9's in there. The KOG-G3, Upswing, Momo, KCP, etc. mixes work well.

Weight loss and getting in shape were my only reasons for buying DDR Ultramix 3 (on the Xbox). So far it's been great: it wears me out and I'm fully sweaty when I'm done. My problem has been that as an out of shape older guy I can't keep up with the steps in the songs. Of course, I've just started and I know it gets easier once you've been doing it for a while. I've found the training mode helpful in that I could slow the song down so it wouldn't be too fast. The calorie counter is a great feature since in ultramix 3 you just turn it on and it counts regardless of the mode you're in after that. I also found that it even counts wrongly placed steps towards the calorie count which is nice.

Is there a way to change the vertical scale on the weight/calorie graph? It makes a small decrease look larger if the bottom of the scale isn't zero.

i gained 10 lbs from ddr!!! laugh.gif i think my muscles just developed, but i'm sorta light to begin with so i guess thats good in a way? E19.gif

i used to play like everyday, but now i play around once a week or two. i have made NO changes in my diet (ICE CREAM! drool.gif ) but that's just me. E4.gif the harder songs you play will result in faster weight loss, and the most useful tip is not to stuff yourself at a buffet before playing...the results aren't pretty <___<

I've been playing ddr/itg for almost 3 years now, one of the reason why I play is that it is a fun way to lose weight and its more exciting than going to a gym which I fine is very boring and repititive. I'm happy to say that when I first played ddr I was 245 pounds for 6'1 guy, and now for playing for three years I have lost 35-40 pounds. I have days in which my weight fluctuates between 205 lbs and 210 lbs.

1.) I use to play about twice a week for about 5-6 hours when I was going to university and working a typical 9-5 job. Now I only get a chance to play once every 2 weeks due to working at a call center with an inflexible schedule. During that one time I do play every two weeks, I play for about 6-8 hours that day.

2.) I absolutely made no changes to my diet, I still each as much fast food and junk food as what i normally do, I'm sure if I had a better eating habit, I would probably get below 200 lbs, but I'm happy with my weight and I think it suits me at the moment.

3.) It really all depends on your level of stamina and skill level in terms of playing the game. No matter what footers you play its going to contribute to any kind of weight loss. What I usually do when I play ddr/itg.

DDR: 1 Game - 8 footer/7 footer or less/ 9 footer or higher
ITG: 1 Game - 7 footer/8 footer/ 7 footer/ 9 footer or higher

4.) Overall you just do what you feel right is right, and whatever fits your schedule or routine. Just have fun and try to make the most out of it. Always remember water is your best friend when playing ddr/itg.

I've played for about 13 or 14 months. I'd probably average out at least half an hour a day.
I'm a twig. If I adjusted my diet I'd probably blow away.
As hard as you can do. Just try to hold it over time. 1 round of heavy instead of 5 on light is not gonna make any changes. 5 on heavy instead of light will. Sucky example but it's 3:30am. The mind is kinda shut down for the night.
Play more, play harder, eat better, do other activities.

I've held within a 5 pound range since starting playing but I've physically slimmed down for sure.

I play once or twice a week for about 2.5-3 hours. According to ITG2's hilarious calorie counter, I've burnt as many as 5,400 calories in one session. I know that can't possibly be true, though.

Anyway, I did change my diet. First of all, I just eat less. Lunch, for example, used to be a sandwich, a bowl of chips, cookies, and soda or milk for me. Now I just have a sandwich and maybe a handful of chips or some yogurt and water. I've cut down on junk food and especially soda as well. It originally started out with me trying to save money on meals at school because water was free. Then one day I calculated the number of calories I ingested some days in soda alone. I've had days where I drank over 60 ounces of soda, which is over 800 calories, almost 900, actually. >_< Maybe some people's metabolism can handle that but not mine. So now, I drink soda no more than once a week if at all. Also, as a consequence of a bad, BAD work/class schedule last semester, I pretty much stopped eating lunch entirely. I'm quite used to eating only 2 meals a day now.

As for my play level, I play on 8s and 9s on ITG. I tried a 10 last week but did pretty awful on it. XD I'm hoping to reach that level in the coming months, though. Through this combination, I've lost about 30 pounds in the past 6-8 months. Regarding any other tips, I would say if you're looking to get in shape overall, don't rely solely on DDR/ITG. Dance games really only provide a lower body workout. If you want total body fitness, you'll probably want to go to the gym or something for upper body workouts.

1st i did change diet 2nd i played at least 1.5hrs a day at school and about 4 hrs on non school also play as hard and as fast as posible

soda isnt what kills you its the mass ammounts of food i drink one after each session

We could all go argue the power of Atkins and the evil of soda and food, but really I think this is more about exercise.

I've been playing DDR over 2.5 years now and I haven't really lost much weight, but I've gotten in loads better shape. For me at least, DDR isn't a major fat burner as it is a heart helper and a muscle toner. My legs are hard as a rock and my resting heart rate is 58, and I contribute that to DDR.

Yet I still remain above 200lbs, but seeing that I'm 6'3'', I'm not too bad off.

DDR has made exercising much easier and more fun! You can listen to music, play a game, dance, AND get your 1 mile run in all at the same time!

I ended up buying workout attire just for DDR. I've lost a little weight, firmed my legs and stomach more, and made myself want to drink water like I'm supposed to biggrin.gif. There's nothing like it!

I lost 70 pounds.

DDR for an hour and a half (8-9 footers constant)

1200 Calorie diet.

No fast food.

I was also on the Today Show w/Tanya Jensen (on getupmove.com)

Gained 20 due to inactivity and school in the past year.

I shall lose it again in one month, since I'm done with school.

Anything is possible.
