I use that adapter with my cobalt flux to play stepmania on my computer. It works perfectly. _________________

how should it be stored?
I also read in an earlier post about vaporization, pardon my stupidity, but what is that? | It is somewhere between 30 and 45 lbs.
The CF can be stored upright, but storing it like this may increase the amount of cleanings you have to do (due to more dust going between the panels).
The post about the pad vaporizing (disintegrating into nothing) was a troll. The person who posted that never owned a CF, and if they even played on one is even questionable. They own a RedOctane Afterburner, and apparently believe it is the best pad ever and there are no flaws with it at all (saying many of the other posters in that thread are liars). |

Hey.
I just got my Cobalt Flux for Christmas. I must say that I am VERY impressed. I was suspecting a great pad (I mean you should for $300) but the CF actually exceeded my expectations. I am surprised at how close to the arcade the arrows feel. Overall I can vouche that the CF is definately impressive and I recommend it to any serious DDR player (I am on my 2nd year of playing now) who can afford it.

all i've read are good things so far, but is there anything bad about it? and if there is, is there a pad that doesn't have this problem? |
The CF may need an extra support base, if played on heavy and uneven carpet. Easily fixed by making a wooden base for the pad. Full metal pads probably don't have this problem.
The CF may come with a bad control box. All pads with external control boxes have this problem. All you have to do for the Flux is call/e-mail them and you should recieve instructions on how to get a new one. |

i really think the guy who was trolling the cobalt flux ie it vaporizing works for redoctane. That would explain a lot .
But i mean this pad is great and no doubt its been taking quite a bit of abuse from me. Playing 10's on ddr itg and so on and below and attempting 11s.
I play on it every other day for quite a while between an hour or 2 usually and i recieved it during early november.
When i look at it next to my old metal pad i can see that it looks and is much more well built. My old metal pad quit after 3 months and i wasn't even passing 10 footers at the time.
If weaknesses also are evident for the flux except for the base on an uneven surface it is the control box as i stated before but just because if it gets a static shock it may not work properly anymore. |

The black/textured one doesn't take that long to install since it goes on top of the lexan panels. THe clear/smooth ones take a little longer though.
Do you already have a CF? If you don't you can get the kit pre-installed. _________________

Yeah I ordered mine with the clear and it came installed. I love the arcade mod, I dont know how I would be able to play without it. _________________

I am thinking of purchasing CF, but I have a wooden floor. I've heard that a regular carpet/rug is sufficient but still moves when playing hardcore songs [ITG and PSMO etc]. Is there an alternative [I've heard that ppl use those fish market mats] - and if so where to get them? _________________

I just got my flux, and i'm going to be completley OCD and ask these:
I'm coming from an ignition, and I truly don't see a difference in presicion. In fact, i'm missing more, because I have to press harder and don't know where my feet are.
So,
1) How do I know if my CF is presicise as the rest? How do I know I diddn't get a bad one?
2) How do I know if my pannels came to tight? How do I know what's a good level to loosen them at? (I've played around with tightening and loosening, again, I really diddn't see a difference)
I'm on heavy mode, can do up to 9's, playing since august. _________________

I'm a retired Ignition pad player [and but no pad so far lol], and did played on CF [without Arcade mods]. Firstly - it would take SOME time to get used to. Secondly, if you want to play CF like the arcade version [most likely you are], then I would recommend buying the arcade mod.
But if you can't buy the arcade mod, get bunch of cardboard boxes, cut 'em up to the size of the panels, and tape it on top of the panels that aren't used for dancing [if you are playing DDR or Pump It Up]. Cheapest but I assure you somewhat effective way of playing an "arcade version" of DDR.
One of the biggest step from Ignition to CF is playing bare feet/socks to playing shoes. IMO, wearing shoes require stamina since you need to step harder than bare feet.
If you are playing on a PS2 DDR game, set your timing +2 [usually] in Options > Sound. The obvious option would be is when you're playing on a CF and YOU know that you did not miss that arrow, and you did - consider it defective =p
I would get the timing for each PS2 DDR game [Max, Max 2, Extreme etc]; but the site/fourm is down at the moment. _________________

I also went from an Ignition. It took about 20 minutes of playing to start getting used to the CF. By the next day, I wasn't having any problems with missed steps. I think the difference is that the Ignition allows you to be really lazy with your stepping because its sensors are so big (too big, in fact - I remember not being able to stand in the middle without triggering an arrow). The slightest touch will set off an arrow. The CF is very sensitive as well, but requires you to step a little more accurately. It just takes some getting used to.

Get the arcade-style mod kit.

It seems rather unlikely that you got a bad one, but if you play on it for a while (a week or so) and it seems like you have to step too forcefully, there might be a problem.

There's a thread about that (with pics) on the CF forums. I'd find it now, but their site is still down.
I loosened the screws on the arrows a half turn and the corners a quarter-turn (they didn't seem to need as much loosening). The difference isn't noticeable immediately; after a little while, the panels will flatten slightly and increase the pad's sensitivity. _________________
