Alright, so here in Puerto Rico we finally got ITG in the Namco arcades, however we got the "bootleg" version, the one that looks a lot like a ddr cabinet. The regs were soon slamming it saying the pads were not working properly and that the game even crashed in vs mode!
However in the midst of all this bootleggin, one arcade received a "dedicated" cabinet, the one made by Andamiro, now I haven't had a chance to play this one yet so that's why I'm asking, are the Andamiro cabinets better, are the pads of good quality? and is Namco gonna fix this problem? or just let the bootlegged ones? Because I'm fine cause I live near the dedicated cabinet but a lot of players don't so information as how Namco is dealing with this problem, if they are dealing with it at all, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance _________________

The "crappy cabs" are not bootlegs. Roxor sells a legit upgrade kit for DDR machines to change them to ITG. Namco is outfiting a lot of their DDR machines with these upgrade kits now. The pads will in all likelyhood be crappy because DDR machines are getting so old now and most arcades won't invest the time and money to keep them in good functioning order. Some places keep them nice, but it's tough to do just because of the normal wear and tear and the fact that the newest of cabinets are 3 years old now.
The dedicated cabinet is a whole differnt animal. It is produced by Andamiro just for ITG2. The Body is similar to that of a Pump DX cabinet I believe, with a larger screen than a DDR machine, nicer speakers, and brand new pads. It's basically like a brand new DDR machine. No wear and tear yet, perfect condition. The pads are very good and sensitive, the screens are great, and they usually run with very few problems. I hear of a lot more problems with Boxors (upgrade kits) than I do with dedicated cabs. If you have access to a dedicated, it's definately worth going to instead of a upgraded DDR machine. _________________

They aren't old DDR machines, they are the cabinets that were built for EXTREME PS2 in the arcades last year. Namco, in the genius world they live in, recall them, and then outfit them with boxors. They still suck. And they aren't 3rd+ cabinets. |
Correct, though it was actually around late-January/early-February of 2005 when we had the US Extreme PS2 debacle. God, that was awful. And one of those was the first DDR arcade machine that I ever played on. The second was a Megamix. It's a wonder I stuck around after that.
Believe it or not, the ITG2 crapocabs were actually improved considerably from their first incarnation as US Extreme PS2 cabs. Yes, they still suck considerably, but during their earlier lives the pads didn't even have sensors, just a large push-button under each arrow.
In summary, there are actually three types of ITG2 machines you can have:
1. Dedicated cabinet (see http://inthegroove.biz/ for a pic)
2. Upgraded DDR cabinet (you know what a DDR cabinet looks like)
3. Namco Crapocab (looks a lot like a cheap knockoff of a DDR cabinet... because it is!)
So, the overall scale of quality goes something like this:
(BEST)
ITG2 Dedicated Cabinet
|
ITG2 in a Real DDR Cabinet
|
ITG1 in a Real DDR Cabinet
|
DDR in a Real DDR Cabinet
|
...
|
Dying of AIDS
|
ITG2 in a Namco Crapocab
|
DDR Extreme US in a Namco Crapocab
|
Hitler
(WORST) |

Yeah, I took that literally. I didn't think he was talking about those bootleg ones with crap TX rebranded homepads and a joke of a cabinet. Its hard to even say that those "look a lot like a ddr cabinet." So I figured he was just talking about an upgraded DDR cab. _________________

DDR in a Real DDR Cabinet | You like ITG better than DDR?
Wow. Who knew? >.>
This discussion was about the hardware, and the bootleg aspects of the software, if any. Quit injecting your bias into every goddamn post you make. _________________

Since no one has really gone over all the problems with a crapocab (as they are so affectionately called), I will, seeing as how I'm stuck playing on one until Namco gets their act together.
-The pads aren't entirely made of wood. There is a metal shell with plywood boxes inside, so from the outside it looks a lot like a DDR pad These boxes have grooves cut in (rather poorly) for the 4 sensors of each arrow to fit into. This means that if you remove an arrow, you can see the plywood in all its OMG-I-can't-believe-this-hasn't-broken-through-yet glory.
-For whatever reason, there are serious issues with holding freezes on these pads. You also have to hit the arrows very hard or else there is a pretty good chance that many of your steps won't even register and you get a miss (say goodbye to scoring over 90%).
-There are USB ports on the side of the cab, but they don't work. As far as I can tell, Namco had them disabled before they were shipped to out arcade so we wouldn't "corrupt" the machine with our data. OOOOOOK
-The timing issues. When the cab first got to us, it would work fine for a round or two and then there would b serious timing issues. Whenever you would press any button on the machine, be it arrow or face button (or even the freaking button to add credits) it would take about 2-5 seconds for the machine to get it. This of course made playing any songs completely impossible, so we would have to turn the machine on and off (with the handy toggle switch located right on the back, I might add) in order for it to work again. I believe the machine was recently fixed a bit, so if you play on singles it doesn't have any timing problems for quite a while. Doubles still frick it up pretty bad though. When two people play at once, it sends the timing waaaaay off, just like it did before.
-I haven't been able to get any Unlock codes to work. I don't know whether this is because they just don't work on crapocabs or because the pads suck so bad that I'm not entering the codes right. If anyone could confirm unlock codes working on a crapocab I would appreciate it.
-O yeah, don't play any songs with a lot of hands in them (Especially Twilight). I sliced my finger open on one of the screws that are sticking out, which seem to be even sharper than the ones on DDR pads. I really hope we get a dedicab soon, which has no screws sticking out. Since you have to hit the pads really hard to get hands to work, it's all too easy to hit a screw and cut yourself pretty bad.
I hope this helps everyone realize how bad crapocabs are and if you see one, talk to the arcade manager and be like WTF. _________________

The wooden pads, hard freezes and timing issues have all hapenned in the local crapocabs, however the USB ports and unlock codes worked just fine on our cabs. _________________
