Yeah I do play around 7/8 level but I am going to get to AAAing and playing 10s! _________________

From what I've noticed (i may be entirely wrong, but this is just what It seems to me) Girls just want to have fun, and they dont try to show off, and when they find whats fun, they'll stick to it , while most guys (including me) sometimes can't be satisfied with their own performance until they AAA Max Unlimited or something. If ANYONE pushes themselves, they'll become better, no matter what gender. Guys just tend to push themselves more, and sometimes temporarily lose sight of the FUN of DDR to get better, while some girls don't want to give up that fun at all , so they stick to where they are. Heck, my 9 year old cousin nikki is on standard already, and she got on standard about a month quicker than I did when i learned. Haha Girls can be as good or better than guys, if they choose to be |
I must be different from other girls then because I will beat all the guys and get better. _________________

It's cool that you want to get better; I also dream of beating certain people who are really good at DDR. Also, use the edit button to avoid double posting. |

Yep, my sister plays at the 7/8 level too... although she's trying to beat some of the harder songs (like Drop Out, Tsugaru, etc.) and she's only 11 =X .
I think she finds it depressing when I can clear MaxX Unlimited and she dies in the first 30 measures . |

i know one girl who can play on 9 footers, and the only reason she can do it so well is cuz he's done actual dance for since she was like 5 and she currently does track at her highschool, so her legs are ub3r 1337!
but i think the reason girls mostly cant do 9/10 footers is because there "top heavy" and all that bouncing would deffinatly throw me off balance. _________________

Girls are definitely not so well known since a.) A lot of them don't play uber-competitively in comparison to elite guys, b.) a lot of them don't feel like wasting time or brain cells on comparing e-penises on the internet, and c.) don't take videos or pictures as much and keep up with scoresheets as much as guys in mass quantities do.
From what I've seen on Recall and everything I've heard in the past, there are quite a few good girl players. Off the top of my head, I can think of some of the Seattle girls (who have been amazing for quite a while), some girls in California, some in Ohio, a few in North Carolina (who have some great scores), and a couple up from the Mid-A region are pretty solid as well.
There are a lot of girls who can rape a plethora of guys in DDR. Granted, a lot of them (such as myself) have better things to do than whore out the game, but I do play a lot and I do consider myself competitive. The trend with competitive girls is that many of the good girls (when I say "good", I mean at least at a 95%+ DP level, aka AAing a lot of the songs) tend to play easier, slower songs rather than the insanely fast ones, but cultivate PA techniques that are really great, like lower single digiting on command.

I completely agree. Most girls see other girls and rate themselves only to other girls if they're even competitive at all, and a lot of girls play at that level just because they like songs. They see guys go all ga-ga for scoresheets and whatnot and don't care for it as much. It's when a very small percent of girls actually fill out their scoresheets and improve scores because they constantly compare themselves to all players, not just girls, that makes female DDR players interesting.

Girls can AAA songs and pass (hell, even AA!) 10's. I am living proof, and I'm far from the only one, nor am I near the best. Back in 2001, one of the best players (period) in the Mid-A region was a girl by the name of Jackie. She could AAA Afronova and even play it on Stealth/Mirror, and won/placed in a lot of tourneys in the area.

The best male players in my region are also some of the biggest people (for their age) I've ever met.
The best female players I know are far from athletic. |

You're totally off there, at least in my case. I have to play in a tight bathing suit to keep the black eyes away.
I'm passing 10's and 11's here, most recently Soapy Bubble, known for being one of THE hardest ITG2 10's and Robotix Expert, another 11. I haven't made my way into the 12's yet, still working on my stamina issues. I hold #1 records (a few 99.xx%'s) on our ITG 2 machine, both singles and doubles and lots of marathons.
I'm no skinny spring chicken either. No dancing, gymnastics elite marathon runner here.
Placed 1st in 2 local tournaments back in 03 and came in 2nd on my last one in '04. The legend "Eagleboy" got me on the "challenge doubles" area.
But I can hold my own next to the guys. Of course, I'm uber competitive!

Think getting owned by a girl at DDR is bad enough?
Try losing to Amber/Flotastic who is like barely 5 feet tall.
And she can AAA 9's. _________________

wow, you know, i've more or less stayed away from forums since like the early '90s bbs days, and i forgot about all this bs. some of you people seriously live on another effing planet.
i can't imagine why there would be any difference between a male and a female ddr player...except that, you know, as a VERY GENERAL rule, guys tend to get more obsessive than girls about just about every type of video game. i'm sure there are reasons and blah blah blah, but it's just not very interesting.
ddr is fun. being good at ddr is fun. i am a chica and i'm the best casual (e.g. not elite or arcade-competitive) player i know by far. (to be fair, most of my friends, men and women, are of the giggle and fall down school of ddr-play) i specialize in the uber uber fast toons, the faster the better, ROCK!
as for being elite and known worldwide and all that stuff--frankly, it's such a tiny tiny segment of the ddr-playing population, which is a tiny segment of the population at large, i don't think any meaningful conclusions can be drawn from the gender imbalance. i'm way more interested in, you know, why there aren't more female politicians or world-class artists or revolutionary writers and so on. but i certainly wouldn't want to debate the issue with anyone who thinks that ddr demographics have something important to teach us about gender. |

Explain this' relevance to the topic. I don't think anyone really needed to know that you're an "oldskool" forum user. And DDR hasn't been out since the early 90s, so if you mean "I forgot about this boy/girl DDR thing since I've stayed away since the early 90s" you're incorrect.

Exactly the point raised and disussed in this thread. You're bashing a thread by supporting it. _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

The only time I've been to an arcade and there were other people to play with, the best player was a girl. And everyone was amazed that she could pass Afronova, light. No joke. Its not very big down here in South Carolina...
But usually, when I tell people that I play DDR, they tell me its a game for Blacks and Asians, not girls. Most of the people I've seen playing are white people. What about yall? _________________
