I know DDR is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time, but I'm wondering..can it substitute running? What are the benefits from running that you can't get from DDR? Just curious to know...

i think it can substitute running to some extent. in one year, my mile time improved by 3 minutes from playing ddr. now i also run competitively at our school.

Getting a sense of rhythm while shuffling in place is better than running in circles.

No. Running takes way, way more energy than DDR. Sure, DDR can help your stamina, but only to a certain extent. Running will get you in shape faster than playing DDR. ITG, on the other hand, would help your stamina a lot more.

I think DDR is an excellent substitute for running. Why run when you can have so much more fun doing this? You still get enough out of it, and if you do enough of it it equals a few laps in my book! Sides, stamina is used for running so DDR is also a helping hand if you really MUST run.

DDR can be used as exercise, without a doubt, but I don't really think it can be substituted for running. With some slight changes in diet and DDR, I've lost about 30 pounds. However, I'd say I'm only slightly better at running now than I used to be, and I doubt DDR really had anything to do with that.

Well if you expect to lose wait you need to adjust your diet as well. You can't expect to play DDR and eat a Triple Whopper from McDonalds and lose weight.

It depends on your fitness goal. If you want long distance endurance, running at a long steady pace is better. If you want fat loss and high energy cardio, DDR is better. However DDR is better only when utilized properly. Playing for an hour doing 6 and 7 footers is not much of a challenge to the body. Playing for 20 to 30 minutes with a variety of 7 to 10 footers going up and down in intervals of stamina difficulty is much better.

DDR is waaaaay closer to short sprints than long distance running. THink about it - a minute and a half dancing, 45 seconds choosing song, minute and a half dancing....

Personally, I hate running... so DDR *has* replaced running for me. As for how well it replaces it, I really dunno. All I know is, running more than likely does involve more energy than DDR.

Just do whatever you want happy.gif I mean it's not like you have to choose between the two lol.

DDR:

Is it fun?
That's been up for debate since ITG came out, but we'll just say "Yes" and leave it at that.

Does it require physical activity?
Of course.

Can it replace running?
Not necissarily.

Can it substitute for running if running is not an option at the given moment?
Yes. Yes it can.

Thread over.

I find this thread to be quite halarious!!!!!

DDR REPLACE RUNNING???

Being a runner and running 10+ miles, how the hell can DDR compete with that. Sure, DDR can be quite challenging, but DDR = sprinting. Long distance running = running for long periods of time WITHOUT STOPPING. Running is for real men, not for a bunch of overweight kids.

You can only do that sort of thing for only so long until your body totally gives out.

It would take playing 9s and 10s consecutavely to give your body a work out. Anything less would be a waste to time.

I'm glad that run much, much longer than I can DDR. It allows me to enjoy it that much more.

It would take a crap load of DDR to replace running, but if any of you were real runners we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Hell, you could AA 3 tens in a row and I'd still outrun you so......... Running >>>DDR

DDR has nothing on running. A 3 mile run for me (competitively in about 18 minutes, trainingly in about 22) requires so much more energy than an equal amount of time of DDR. Of course, if I made it a nonstop course of fast-step 9s & 10s, that'd probably do better, but still.

Running > DDR

On workout mode for home version says jogging(after you play a song), but it also says how far you have ran, if running.Rember, the game is JP so it's in killometers.
