Hey, I'm hearing around the forums that DDR is dying out. E19.gif . This really sucks, we must get more people back in the groove. riiight.gif . Anyways, maybe if there was a tourney like the Tenkay one that had a huge prize (like $10,000), maybe everyone would start practicing or new people would try it.

I wouldn't saay it is dying out, there will be always alot of people in America that like it, I think maybe you've been hearing that it is dying in JApan, or it may be dying here, who knows, but in Japan, DDR is dead as a dead moose.

Yeah... DDR isn't as popular as it used to be... but it's still pretty popular. As long as you continue to introduce new people to DDR, it'll never REALLY die. That's one of the reasons I like to help people learn the game when they walk by and comment on how hard it looks. I'll start them on beginner, and I'll go on beginner too, so if they need/want me to, I can call out which arrows to hit. It's helpful. E7.gif

i dont think its dieing out. mite b a little less popular then it used 2 b but this year ive introduced 6 new people to ddr and lately ive been seeing a lot of younger people tryin it (like 9-11 years olds). so as long as more people know about it, it wont die. i think the reason less people play it here is because less people know about it

Around where I live, I see it losing interest. I noticed the regulars I usually play with don't come like they do no more. People I've talked to have lost interest, while I've start getting good I haven't lost interest yet. I guess I still have the desire to keep on playing.

DDR is dying out simply because there isn't enough new material out there to keep it fresh (not in terms of music, in terms that Konami has halted the DDR Arcade series). The home versions are keeping it stable currently, but don't expect that to last very much longer without new Arcade Mixes coming around.

I mean, the home versions satisfy most people who are new at DDR and don't know much about the game, but the people who play at the arcades are getting bored with DDR Extreme. Sadly, since DDR is basically dead in Japan, the chances of seeing a new DDR arcade mix are slim to none, since Konami doesn't have an American arcade development center anymore. Most fads are like this though. It'll come back in Japan soon enough, I'm sure.

Until then, enjoy the home versions or try to play ITG (or Dance Trax, when it comes out). *shrug* That's really all we can do anymore except for wait around.

I think part of it is regional. It may be dying out in places where it's been known longer, but in places like Pittsburgh (for instance) which are a little behind the trend, it lives on. I believe that it may not completely die out, but casual players may leave and it will only be us hardcores left. (That means, no more little kids playing Butterfly on light 100 times!)

I know games like ITG and DTX get a lot of flak here, but I think they should get some credit for keeping it alive. Soon clone machines will be all we have so we might as well support the good ones.

I think a lot has changed since 2003... now there are some other options besides DDR

and it also depends on the area... my town doesn´t know ITG, but it´s full of Stepmania

and as much as I wish Konami would make something big like they used to, there really is no way to revive a game that hasn't been updated for 3 years.

Let it die. Even if Konami comes out with a new arcade mix (not gonna happen), it won't have the depth or replayability that ITG2 has right now. You'll still be stuck taking pictures of scores and playing crappy 7/8/9 foot charts that are gonna suck just as much as the ones on Extreme.

The more recognition ITG gets the better. It has ten times the depth that DDR will ever have.

We're (the dance game community) lucky enough to have a company that actually maintains a dialogue with it's customers. Do you think Konami will ever do that? We need to support Roxor as much as we can; companies like them are one in a million.

Please, LET DDR DIE. Support and promote ITG and Roxor whenever you can, because it's the only way to keep the (arcade) community alive.

Well, playing at Frys for the past 3 years got me wondering. Did I make anyone feel like buying this game? I feel that the home version will live on throughout children. It is like a gateway to start them off in a DDR interest before they reach arcades. Well arcade machines will be new to them so they will give it many shots. As we get older we start to feel if we want or do not want to still play DDR.

Mainly, we pass DDR to other people. That is how it will never die.

OMG EVERYONE WORSHIP ROXOR THEY ARE THE BEST EVOR LOLZ!!!!! There's nothing special about Roxor. Konami could still keep up with them if they wanted to. In the Groove is not the "best game". It's good, but no need to sacrifce your hand to it.

I think you missed the point of my post. We should support Roxor because they support us, the dance game community. Konami does not, and will not, not ever.
