Yeah... I wasn't about to go through 42.x pages of what people didnt like, so I thought I'd read 1-2-skipafew style and post my own
Though I don't play in arcades often (don't get the chance to as for the local place with one always has theirs broken in someway or gone for maintainence), but things still happen...
- School preps and hispanics mocking the players as they play (good or bad) then when asked nicely to play (a paid game) they reply with, "Pft, that poopy lame, you homies don't know how to dance" or "That's some chinese stuff, I'm white, get that poopy back to your country".
- Thinking DDR is for asians only or that asian = good at ddr.
- people who continuly trying to step on an arrow as you play (usually friends, but now and then a... stupidhead... yes stupidhead... comes by and steps on your arrow).
- People who are trying to compete with you and when it's your turn they sit there and say stuff like, "YES, ONE MORE GREAT AND HE LOSES!" (generally children).
- people who laugh at noobs when the noobs are trying (whether they look stupid or not)
- noobs that arn't just trying, they think they kick enough buttocks to show it off. Good-job, now the world knows. You're stupid.
- people who try to compare to you with their own status/score when you do a good job. Saying something like, "yeah well, style isn't going to get you anywhere, so many people out there dance with style too well. Difficulty and Perfects/Max combos are what counts" and stuff like that.
- People who will NOT BACK OFF AND EITHER SIT TOO CLOSE OR STAND TOO CLOSE THAT I JUST WANT TO FLAIL MY ARMS AND SMACK THEM IN THE TEETH. Ahem, sorry for the caps.
- People who are better than you and when you do something that you were content with, they get up there doing something much better, intentionally to compete with you and look at you like you're nothing. (though of course, sometimes the noob is just beind an idiot, then they deserve it).
- People who ask you to play with them and then pull some weird manuver when the crowd least expects it.
Story- I was at Lagoon (an amusement part by Salt-lake city) for Senior Lagoon Day (where all the highschool seniors go to the amusement park), and I was like "Ohmigosh! A ddr machine!" So there was a kid playing it and apparently has been for sometime, pulling a new stunt as more people crowd the machine. Then they started playing max unlimited or something on heavy and were bar raping, the crowd still thought they were omgoodness awsome.
He left to get more coins, and I asked politely to see if I could play. He let me and judged me as I played. I didn't have the difficulties down (i've never even played that version to be honest), but I did have style and apparently the crowd started to look at me more as I wasj ust simply more rhythmic. He seemed to have noticed that and since I told him to pick whatever song because I wouldn't know any better, he picked a bunch of high level songs on maniac and some I could do and some he could better, though bar rape seemed to have been a fetish for him.
The song before the last I picked. I recognized a song that I knew from befrore and played that on standard and was just kind of... freestyling/having fun. That apparently got more attention from the crowd (and this girl with a wonderful smile). So for the last song, he picked a song that I've played before (Forgot which), both of us played on standard.
As the song was played, I noticed that he was trying to do spins and such, but holding the bar every now and then still. I just did what I did and had fun. Then the song intendly freezes and as the beat builds up and the arrows froze, he ran all the way around the machine (with a ramp that led down the a pit of more games, then another ramp back up) and jumped on the arrow that was coming up next.
My reaction was O_O||| and the crowd thought he had to go to the bathroom (or so it seemed). Then I was done because I didn't want to try to pull something like that and embarrass myself. He popped in more coins and started heavy mode/bar rapeage again. Five minutes after I left, the crowd was gone. _________________

i really hate it when they bring ther kid when im with a big group, i mean, they just run up, pushin everbody away and everything. our ddre is in a corner, so theres no room at all.
i also hate it when people jeer noobs. omg, i just wanna punch there face in! it really hurts, i was jeerd alot when i was a noob, it made me wanna quit.
i know it shouldnt bother me, but when a noob beats me. there was this 20 year old dude, and it was his first time. first he played beginer, then ligt, etc.. and he just kept moving up! he kicked my azz later on when i got a d in heavy, and he an a..... _________________

- When im standing there telling people to be quiet, and they dont listen(even though im screaming)
- When i tell someone they cant stand somewhere during a song because i might hit them, then they stand there anyways though
- When those same people get pissed when i kick them in the face when i do a handstand
- Arcade owners who dont let you bar hop(because it causes "severe" damage)
-Threads like this that remind me of the bad parts of ddr, when there are so many sweet parts. No offense to the guy who made this thread _________________

Hearing those words and still barely failing psmo, maybe i shouldn't have played 11's on itg right before trying though. hmmmm??? |

That happened to me today and I was very pissed off. First off the machine was on 1.2x rate (its an extreme plus machine). Then the guy decides that it would be funny to pick a hard song for me. Now Im not the best ddr player I can pass all the 9s and a few 10s, but this guy was only just passing 7 heavys. So the first song he picks is across the nightmare. He makes me go on oni and i'll tell you that song is a frick doggy on 1.2 rate. The 8ths running at 360 bpm are not fun especially if your tired which I was. I manage to pass and then he goes to pick R&P and I quickly stop him and tell him to stop frick around
I also forgot to mention that yes he did fail the song in the first 10 seconds , but i suppose you can assume that |

Ok heres what happened to me today that pissed me off.
I'm in the middle of a set right? And this kid is all ooh, aah, yack yack yack, which is even worse sinse I'm not THAT good. Anyway he decides he's going to get tokens and put them in the machine WHILE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG!!! Then to top it off he's bocking half the screen (thankfully not the half I needed to see) asking me all these stupid ass questions about why his credits aren't doing anything. I'm still playing the song, you'd think he would realize that I'm frickin trying to concentrate, but he wouldn't leave me alone. Apparently he got fed up with me and left, so I had a free credit. It was awesome.
Point is I don't like when people are in my sight when I'm playing single. If we're on versus... fine, or if I've said they could shadow... great, but if they're going to just stand on the pad next to you and either be annoying as fuck or just stand there and do nothing, then it's a pain. _________________

this doesn really anger me, but it kind of is a pet peeve.
ppl who leave their quarter up for long term use.
For example, the person leaves up the quarter, plays, leaves it up, and leaves for an hour.
then another person plays. I soon decide i want to play. i put my quarter up, then the person who leaves the quarter up comes back right wen i was about to play.
if noobs play, they should stick to beginner not light. if they can't play, then they switch off with 2 or more ppl. also, them noobs returnin to the middle; bad habit. _________________

I hate it when n00bs go up, and when they finish their round, they put in more credits and keep going. Then when you tell them to get off they say that they werent done. Of course, that's when you get an arcade worker to kick them off, but it's still annoying. They should frickin know better, I don't care if they suck at the game. It's like a line at an amusement park. Say you're on a roller coaster, when the roller coaster comes back to the station you don't just say "well I wasn't done so screw all you people who are waiting," uh uh. You get off, and get back in the frickin line. _________________

I consider myself a very patient and tolerable player, so there aren't really many things that really tick me off in terms of the arcade experience. A lot of the things that people are describing in this topic definetely happen at the arcade where me and my friends play DDR.
To me I'm just very tolerant toward that kind of thing. I try to not let things bother me especially when I'm playing. I am far from being perfect and there are definetely things that do get me angry when I try to enjoy myself within the arcade experience.
1.) I especially hate when the better ddr players make fun of other players you are relatively new at the game and may not be as skilled as them. I personally think finding happiness out of making other people miserable is truly pathetic. We were all in that beginner stage, and its our dedication toward this game genre that eventually moved us up the skill ladder. I think instead of mocking these players, we should encourage them. No matter how good you get at ddr, there will always be someone better than you.
2.) I don't appreciate it when people jump on the pad next to you, while your playing a song and constantly mock you. I've seen it happen to a few of my friends and even myself before and I don't unersatnd why people do it because you look more of an buttocks then the actual person playing ddr. If you hate the game so much don't go trying to make a statement by making fun of the person by actually playing the game.
Things such as people shadowing, people butting in line, people choosing hard songs when you play against them on verses doesn't really bother me. Besides deep down I'm an incredibly passive-submissive person. I personally don't like making situations any stressful than what they have to be. _________________

What really angers me is when someone is playing with you on versus and they're offbeat and they're stomping really loud and it screws me up. _________________

YES! Man I HATE when people leave a coin up there for like, 3 hours. Its like, you put a coin up there, when its your turn you take it down. You leaving the damn thing up there the entire time you're around just throws everyone else off. You'll think you got 2 more sets to go because you see 2 other coins up there, yet it stays at 2 coins before yours. So You never know who the hell is supposed to go when. Man, IRRITATING. _________________

LITTLE KIDS!!!! They always seem to mess it up. If they're over the age of five they're okay but the young ones drive me insane! Last week I was playing in the arcade and a little kid jumped up onto my pad and started hitting arrows for me which caused me to trip and made me get a D in the song. (My foot slipped and he got a good kick off of the pad)
I also hate it when people can't figure out who goes next. I wait for thirty minutes and then when it gets to my turn some guy who I watched put the quarter up ten minutes after me claims that its his turn and that he has been waiting forever etc. and I end up losing my turn because no one belives me and there would be a riot if I played.
I hate it when people that don't even want to play get up there. The people that use it as a kind of joke and laugh the whole time without ever even playing. I mean come on! If you're going to make eight people wait for you to play you should actually try. Don't get me wrong, I think its great when we get new players, but they need to play and not waste everybody's time.
Sorry I just realized how much I typed. I sorta went off the deep end. Didn't mean for you to have to sit through my ranting |
