GameCrazy does not usually sell dance pads (at least none around me). In fact, you usually can't find DDR there at all unless someone happened to tade one into them. I would personally say that if you haven't yet purchased a DDR game, wait for Extreme 2 and get the bundle. It's $60 (or at least has been in past releases, I'm assuming it's the same this time around), so it's pretty much the same as purchasing a $20 knockoff. If you have bought one of the games already and can't wait the 13 days untill Extreme 2 is released and/or can't afford the $60 for the game and pad bundle, I would agree with Baka and say go with Madkatz. This will do you until you get up to 8s (which is a month to never depending on the person), and then you'll start sliding around.
So pretty much, get the Konami pad included in the bundle if you can handle the 13 day wait and $60. But remember, you get the game too, which looks like it will be one of the better, if not best, mix on PS2! |

I figured as much.
And I can confirm that there are at least 5 differently modeled GameStop pads in circulation. And none of them are good. BUt I still don't know anything about thier Ignition model ($50). So if anyone has a review, please post. I'm curius if it's any good or not (as I like the feel of Ignitions, but don't have confidence if I buy one it will actually work. |

I have sadly learned this lesson too late. I now wish I had saved up and just gotten one decent RedOctane Ignition pad instead of the two cheap ones with DDR Extreme. I had a friend come over who plays DDR all the time and he messed them up in one night. |

I was thinking of getting the Multiplatform Ignition (PS, PS2, Xbox, USB) pad from RedOctane and was wondering two things:
1.) How long will it last? I do 8's thru 10's 3 or 4 times a week and was wondering if it'll be better than my previous Ignition model (lasted 3 months before left arrow died).
2.) Kinda off- topic, but will it work with Mac OS X USB and Stepmania too?
Thanx, sorry for long post. _________________

Okay, let me answer your questions, but tell you that there IS AN IGNITION THREAD! You're supposed to go there.
Also, your post is not long. Omgwtf.
The pads may last from anytime from one month to a longer period of years. It just depends on the pad and your luck, haha. The Ignition 3.0 should work with your Mac, as nekura uses his Mac and it works on StepMania. It also works for PC StepMania too. However, please note that I say it SHOULD work. _________________

I wish I had found this forum before I bought 2 cheap soft pads
The first one was $20 and broke after 6 hours of play, the second was $30 and only took about 4 hours before the buttons started to mess up. |

EDIT: if i should get the cheapest thing i can find will this be good http://cgi.ebay.com/2-x-PS2-DDR-Dance-Revolution-Extreme-Pads-USB-Adapter_W0QQitemZ8225072720QQcategoryZ21188QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
30 bux for 2 dance pads and an adapter is pretty good. but will these pads last till christmas if i modded them? this may be off topic but where can i find a driver for the adapter shown in the auction? _________________

My experiences/suggestions.
Konami Softpads-
These are probably the best softpads. My first one (DDR EX) worked great for about 4 months before I noticed it was misfiring. After that, I brought it to a party, let a friend borrow it, and when I got it back, two of the arrows just plain sucked. I cut into it and the sensors were RIPPED ALL OVER. Taped but didn't help.
My second one (DDR EX2) basically came with an occasional misfiring up arrow... Now the others are starting to go too. Unmodded, uncut.
MyMyBox Softpad-
I hated it when I got it. Slipped around and wasn't too good. Gave it away to a friend. When I went to his house, there was a rip over the bottom and the pad was "decent" for 7-9 heavy. Not recommended.
Redoctane Ignition (2.0 basically)-
First one was awesome when I got it. Supportive, excellent response, everything. Then in about a month it started to misfire. Taking foam out of it helped. Currently sucks for heavy. Cut into to check sensors. Seemed fine, reinforced with tape. No help.
Second pad was worse. When I got it, the up arrow had no response. I had to cut in and tape the sensor back on. Once that was done, the arrows would randomly hit and one arrow would trigger another. Really sucks. See Ignition 1.
MadCatz BeatPad-
This started as a decent pad for a day or so. The inside foam was bunched up at the Up arrow and I fixed it. Then the right arrow basically hit when it felt like it. Really sucks. Cut into, taped, fixed foam, etc. No help. I decided to take out all the foam to see if it would work better. Big mistake. Don't do that, okay?
From what I hear, TX-x000s suck, break and easily shatter arrows.
Afterburners seem good, but the arrows also shatter/break.
Cobalt Fluxes are your best deal. I have heard no problems except the lower layer of wood that goes on the ground splitting. Solved by putting something under it.
Softpads basically suck.
Ignitions suck, but vary from pad to pad.
Metal pads are decent.
Cobalt Fluxes are the best pad. Ever. _________________

imo for softpads, go for intec wire pad, i modded mine by taping it to a hard persian rug with duct tape, i also made a lil arcade mod by tapeing squares of cardboard on the x,o,tri, square now even with a rip thats 2ft long, i can beat 9+ footers easily, ive beaten MAX300 heavy on (C) it and PS heavy (B) but still i could beat the other ones if i had the Endurance _________________

I have a Konami soft pad with the non-slip back, and it has lasted about a year 1/2 now on my hard-wood flooring in my room. I didn't mod it and I play at least an hour a day with songs like Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) and Rhythim and Police on heavy. I think that the Konami non-slip pads are the way to go if you have hard wood floor or tiles. _________________
Anyone want to chat? I know a lot about DDR konamix, DDRMAX, and DDRMAX2! (and a lot of other games, like Halo 1-2, MGS, and almost all of the FF games) |

Key words are hard wood floor. If you have carpet, don't get a soft pad, unless it's VERY LOW and VERY HARD carpet. You will destroy your pad by using it on carpet. Believe it or not the carpet actualy damages the pad more, simply because as you play the arrow you step on will dip into the floor, causing the rest of the pad to either bunch or stretch. Hardwood floors are the best for keeping your pads good, and playing on the lowest level of your house is reccomended as well to pretect anything on floors below (in my friends case a chandelier was almost loosed from it's hold on the ceiling). |

I will also say that those Konami pads are the best soft pads. I've used mine on carpet and wood for over a year now. It's great.
In a bit i will be making my own metal pad. can anyone tell me how a descent homemade pad will compare to a cobaltflux? I dont have the kind of money for a cobalt right now |

Candy (non-vocal)
1998
Vanity Angel
D2R

PM me to request for me to play songs on stepmania to tell u if my ITG Pad moves, messes up,etc. but i doubt the dance pad will mess up. theres a chance the adapter wont work/have trouble setting it up/etc. ill tell u all when it comes and how it works on 6 footers on stepmania. _________________

godddd. Everyone has to have all the conditions perfect! I have a gamestop softpad and i play 9 footers and im fiiiine. I've NOT been careful with it, i dance ALLLL the time on it, ive had it for a long time....and it still works. gees...pickyness...I may not be able to AAA PSMO but i just wanted to inform everyone that you dont have to have a metal mat to play DDR and all these people on 2 footers are like, "oh no! Im too advanced for a soft pad!" ...The truth is...you arent :o |

i agree with the post before this. I got my pad in HK in those little alleys, 3 years ago. Played 8-10 footers for 2 years (skipped a year in between) and the pad is in perfect condition. I got it for less that 10 US dollars as well. Just yesterday, getting back into DDR for the 3rd time, i decided I was going to just tape it onto a office mat to stop it from slipping. And if you're going to get a metal pad, you might as well just make your own one at home. Atleast you can make it the way you want to, and they work fine, in some cases, better. I don't believe that one should have to pay 300 dollars to get quality stuff. My pad < 10 dollars and it works just as well, just sliding issue. _________________
