Please bear with me, I will be so grateful for help. My 11 son has Gamecube. I think I might have access to a Playstation 1, but would prefer to use the Gamecube. I'd like to get him a high quality dance pad but can only spend about $100 total including shipping.
What are my options? What do you recommend? I would really appreciate if you could send responses to my email at benjalo @ gmail dot com but I will try to remember to check back here for answers.
THANKS! |

If you get a Playstation 2, there are more good games than gamecube (Gamecube only has Mariomix, and I really dont think Konami should have done that). If he is good at it (Std. or hvy.) then I would go with a TX-2000 model, you may have to spend like $150 dollers, but it is a REALLY good pad, and worth it. ( I have the TX currently, and it holds up REALLY well, even when I am doing Paranoia Survivor) I don't know about gamscube stuff though.
You could also get a inexpensive foam mat for $25 but they REALLY are bad for std. hvy. players..
If you feel like going all out... buy the Cobalt Flux, $299 from www.cobaltflux.com (Drolls over Cobalt Flux) (you don't know how much I want one) _________________

If you only have a Gamecube, then just get DDR Mario Mix. You can do some modifications to the pad to make it work over a long period of time. |

I recommend that you get a ps2. There are four games available for it, and each one has about 70 songs. There are also some games for ps1, but I don't know much about them.
If you can only spend $100, try getting a RedOctane Ignition and modding it. I've heard that they work well when you mod them with plywood. I do know that unmodded, an Ignition is a giant $100 POS.
I have two Cobalt Fluxes. They're the best - worth every penny. _________________

There is always Konamix for the PS1 which is a way better choice than Mario Mix
heres the songlist...http://www.ddrfreak.com/versions/songlist.php?mix=74
as for Mats... i have used a 15$ foam mat i bought at a pawn shop for 6 months now and can beat anything i can at the arcade on it *9 foot heavy songs* (just duct tape the pad to the floor and it doesnt move) but if you have the money go for metal they are Awesome! _________________

There's just no way we can buy a playstation 2 right now. If we bought the older DDR for Playstation 1, will it work with one of the foam pads? |

yes, and most pads built for the PS2 are PS1 compatable
anyway, on a $100 budget, get the RedOctane Ignition _________________

All pads work on carpet. It's just a matter of if they move during play use.
But yes, it can be duct taped/etc. to plywood just like any other pad. _________________

If you get an Ignition, measure the foam insert properly and get a piece of wood of same measure instead. Then put 4 velcro strips on the undersides of the pad, placed at the diagonals, placed onto the pad diagonally. The strip you want to use is the plastic loops side of the velcro so that it will "hook" onto the "hooks" of the carpet. |

Although Konamix for PS1 has a solid songlist, the PS1 lacks the horsepower to pull it off. I hardly ever play my copy anymore because it seems like the game lags and the graphics are quite dated. Don't believe me? Play Groove on the PS/2 then play it on Konamix - you'll see what I'm talking about. Of course I say the same thing about the arcade machine compared to running stepmania on a fast PC. There is always Dance Praise too |

they all have the dual shock ability and same outlet so yes.
get konamix try here but im not sure if they stocked gamecube pads.
i dont think a hardcore player would like to play to mario music and doesn't have the foot ratings. _________________

If you're just starting out I think Mario Mix is perfect to start out with. When you start getting bored of it and/or grow out of it, get a PS2 and start playing the MAX series. _________________
