That's "Taisetsu na mono," original performer is Road of Major (PF 9th Mix is a cover).

There's no "sky" kanji anywhere in the title (especially since the name of the song means something to the effect of "The Important Things," but in the song, they do say "kono sora (sky) no shita..."

btm? You mean BPM?

I'm still in transition from Beginner to Standard in gfdmV, and I already got a Full-Combo S in Beginner. The songs I usually play in Standard is Believe in Love. Any other recommendations for GuitarFreaks V?

Ah, "Believe in Love", I enjoy playing that song a lot. I think the best way is to just start playing Standard mode as much as possible. When I had access to a GFV machine, when I was starting out, I'd play "Believe in Love", "Party Hard", and lastly something a bit more challenging like "Pipeline" or "Tentai Kansoku". I personally found "Believe in Love" and "Party Hard" to be easy songs to both get into and to play. After playing V on Standard off and on, I eventually made my way up to playing one of my favorite songs, "N.G.S.", with relative success. Songs like "Freckles(Sobakasu)" aren't too hard to play.

I am really looking forward to the PS2 release of GFV and DMV, as well as the announcement of the GF ASC. I'm wondering though if Konami will make a moderately priced drum set for Drum Mania V... seems unlikely, but it is nice to think about.

Honestly speaking, Guitar Freaks is one of the only Bemani games I've really gotten into+enjoyed, besides Pop 'n' Music and Dance Maniacs. I'm definitely buying a Japanese PS2 just for the release of GFV. I hope Konami starts to release more Guitar Freaks console games in the future.

I was thinking too, how is the link thing going to work when you have 1 TV, 1 PS2, but a drumset and a guitar playing together? Split screen? I would think it would get kind of confusing... I'm hoping that you won't need to have two PS2s to do this kind of link, because that would get rather costly.

Previous versions of GF/DM for PS2 just use a modified screen layout with the drums on the left, video to the right of that (optional - for widescreen TVs), and guitar columns all the way to the right. It'll probably be something like that. I wonder if they'll leave in the ethernet session linking code from the arcade version so you can play with 2 PS2s. That would be kind of a neat feature to keep in there.

Hmmm, interesting...

How do the older versions of GF/DM compare to GFV and DMV? The oldest mix I've played was GF11/DM10. I heard that the PS2 port of GF4/DM3 was horrible. Are the rumors true?

Dude, I totally choked on "Freckles" on the first try. Anyway...

I finally managed to get a full-combo in Standard. It has a rating of 14 Basic, but I forgot the title. All I can remember is that it has a chick guitarist with an imprinted star on the shirt and a pair of headphones that she wears.

Oh, btw, is there a site out there that gives us gfdm combo sequences?

Yeah, Freckles is kind of difficult when you're first starting out... I even had a hard time with songs like Pipeline when I first started. That's no problem anymore though! I suggest sticking with around 14 difficulty until you get the hang of it, move on to ~18-ish difficulty and eventually make your way up to 30.

And a little off-topic, but does anyone know the singer/band for "Believe in Love"? I love that song and was wondering if the band came out with a CD or something with that song on it.

Lindberg did Believe in Love and as good as you think the GF/DM version is, the original completely crushes it.

Oh, btw, this sounds strange, but I got access to an Extra Stage for thrice already -- in BASIC!

Would someone please explain this to me?

I think if you score high enough you get an optional extra stage, which is great in my opinion. I could be wrong though...

Edit: Is 1/16 the lowest note the game?

In a word, no. I've got GF4/DM3, and besides not having the songs from GF3/DM2 and earlier (besides 1175), it's quite enjoyable. I do tend to get annoyed by the obnoxious gauge difficulty in GF4, though, and thus end up spending most of my time with DM3.

DM is a game i've always wanted to play but never got the chance to since there isn't a machine within a hundred miles of me... and i'm an arcade purist so i won't bother with the home version.

here's something i want to know.... are any of you DM players actual drummers, and what can you tell me about the game from a real drummer's perspective? things like the note patterns and structure, and the way playing DM compares with a real setup.

From what I understand, even the most basic of drum sets would also have a high-hat open/close pedal (the open/close sounds are selected automatically based on the note chart in DM), two bass pedals for playing quick rolls, and a floor tom, which is lower in pitch than the low tom, but higher than the bass drum. The DM note charts are generally fairly convincing, but things like bass and tom patterns, as well as high-hat difficulty get dumbed down because of these changes.

Oh, and then there's the issue that articulation and velocity control are completely meaningless, since DM doesn't care how hard you hit the pads. Heh.

yeah i knew about the lack of a hihat pedal...

they should have included two pedals, the left one could be a hihat or second bass pedal depending on the song.

so i'm guessing since you have to activate sensors, you're pretty much limited to single strikes and no bouncing/rolling type stuff?

still sounds like a fun game though, wonder if i'll ever actually get to play it.

There's stuff where you need to do bounces and rolls and stuff, but I'm not sure how it compares to the real thing exactly.

For real drummers, an open roll at a moderate tempo usually means 32nd notes, and these don't exist in DrumMania (if they did, most machines would not be sensitive enough to pick up the double-stroke rolls). When people talk about "rolls" in DrumMania, they usually refer to 16th notes, which you can easily single-stroke. So Krappyappy, you're right about that limitation of the game, and yes, it's still a fun game otherwise.

In faster songs like Mad Blast, you'll be glad it's only 16th notes. ;-)
