I went into the edit/sync songs menu, but that just confused me... Is there a way to just do it in notepad? _________________

..what confuses you? It really depends on what you need to sync. Is the gap/offset off? Then toggle the F11 and F12 buttons to adjust it. Bpm off in places? F7 to reduce the bpm, F8 to increase it. _________________

Whenever I edit the gap/offset, it doesn't do anything. I'm making sure to save, and I even changed a few of the arrows at the start to make sure it was saving... I've got a temp fix, backed up the original, and now have the whole song on 16/32nd beats.. It's on sync, but the arrows look dumb. _________________

I'm confused as to what your problem is; do the notes not line up with the beat? Do some of the notes not line up but others not? You may have an incorrect BPM, if that is the case.
Yes, you can edit the steps in notepad if you know how to read a DWI/SM file in text. Just open the file with the extension .dwi or .sm. _________________

easy solution: play on flat
hard solution: if (for some odd reason) the stepmania editor doesn't work, then open up the dwi (or sm) file in notepad and edit the gap there (assuming that all the step are in sync already, this is just a matter of finding the correct gap, which is out of my league) _________________

It's not a bpm problem, but a gap problem... The BPM is fine, and constant throughout the song, but the steps start over a quarter-note early. I did, however, get a friend to fix it for me. Thanks anyway though. _________________
