Just thought I'd share a softpad mod I thought up a while back. All you need are berber tiles, a razor blade, and duct tape! In case you don't know what berber tiles are, they're carpet tiles with adhesive backing. They come in squares, usually a square foot apiece. You can find them at places like Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Google it if you still don't get it.

It works great for me! With this mod, I can tell exactly where my feet are, and it seems to make the pads last longer. Plus, since it's just stuck on, you can take it off if you ever change your mind. My DDR softpad with a berber tile mod holds up very nicely. It works well enough for me to get an A on Max 300 (SMMM) Heavy. This pad is nearly 6 months old, and it still works perfect. It works better than my RO Ignition 3.0 ever did disgust.gif

Here's the simple steps to mod your pad!

1. Lay out your pad and make sure that it's clean and as smooth as possible.

2. Measure the size of your DDR pad's arrow, and then use a marker to mark off where you will cut the berber tiles. Razor blades work very well for cutting this stuff.

3. Once everything is cut out to the proper size, remove the plastic backing from the tiles and position them over the arrows on the DDR pad. Generally, I set the tiles on so the lines in them match the direction of the arrow (i.e. vertical for up and down, horizontal for left and right)

4. After you set the tiles on the pad, step on them evenly to make sure it adheres to the pad. After they're stuck on nicely, take duct tape and put a strip (half on the tile, half on the pad) over each edge, so that your foot won't catch on the tile and pull it up while you're playing.

5. Enjoy!

Another nice thing about this mod, is the pad still maintains it's portability. You can still fold it.

Here's a couple pics:

DDR Pad (Xbox)
This pad works perfectly! I've never had a misfire or misstep due to the pad since I modded it like this.

PIU Pad (Xbox)
Works just as well as the DDR pad. I got an S on Turky March Crazy with it just earlier today.

They may look a little crude, but the performance is excellent, and it seems to prolong the life of the pad. If you ever decide to take the mod off, there may be a little bit of adhesive residue. A little bit of Goo Gone should do the trick.

A note on the PIU pad: If you mod your PIU pad, make sure the center tile is cut small enough (roughly the size of the actual arcade step) so that it will not interfere with the other squares during folding. Just make sure the size won't prevent you from folding the pad back up.

Hope you like my mod! If you try it, let me know how things work out for you.
