Just got the TX-4000 metal pad today. Bought it off ebay.

Anyway I am new to this DDR thing. Just started 3 weeks ago and bought 4 hard foam pads (so we can play 4 at a time on the xbox). Have been having a great time and since then loaded stepmania on the xbox and even created a few smfiles from some songs I wanted to dance to.

The only time I have even stepped onto a real arcade DDR machine was just a few days ago. The machine was broke and the up and down arrows did not work on one side and the left arrow did not work on the other ($1 wasted) so I have never really felt a real arcade pad.

The TX-4000 seems pretty decent so far but will have to see how it holds up. I have only had experience with the hard foam softpads and I was very use to feeling the sensor in the pads to know where I was. After trying the metal pad I was all over the place. I would drift up or to the right and be steping in the wrong place.

Anyway I took some extra plexiglass I had and raised the center so now I can tell where I am.

Here are some pics.

Can you or would you recommend playing barefoot in it? Or would it scratch up your feet?

That metal pad looks pretty sleek. But like with all the TX Series, I reccommend you mod the contact foil to something more sturdy that will hold up.

With the extra piece of plexiglass you really need shoes. I ended up taking it off now and have gotten use to it and don't drift anymore and usually stay in place. Just takes time to get use to I guess.

Lol.. hmm what about without the original plexiglass mod? <-- What I intended, although seem quite a simple effective solution to your needs E1.gif...
What's that design underneath the plexiglass anyways?

The plexiglass is actually from a slot machine. Those graphics are silkscreened on. I have a bunch of it from another project I worked on.

Can i ask you a few things about this pad,

what is the sensitivity like?
does it feel durable?
have u had any problems with any of the arrows not responding?

Overall out of 10 what would u rank it?

Cheers E4.gif

I am not an expert on Dance Pads and this is the only metal pad I have ever used. I don't play much so it does not get much use.

It feels very durable and is heavy. I have not had a singel problem with it yet, but only use it like once a week.

USB works great with Stepmania on my computer. Infact I mostly use it with stepmania.

sorry for bumping this topic but is this pads metal panels stronger than the BNS v2.53s Polcarbonate Panels? and where can i get this pad for a good price? i found this site http://store.elementsource.com/elementsources/bdaremepadar.html but it has the TX-1000 description. should i buy this or is it a scam? im worried they might send me a piece of crap TX-1000. and hows the soldering to this pad? i might get this for christmas if my parents dont get we a CF.

sorry about the double post. but will this pad work with Windows 98 with USB 2.0?
EDIT: i have real shag carpeting. will i have to put particle board under the TX-4000 so it doesnt crack or bend like a CF would?
