I just had my first "bar" experience.
I've learned to play at home, so using the bar really weirded me out. I can pass Max 300 heavy at home with a B, no bar and feel entirely drained. Today at the arcade I decided to give it a whirl, so I used the bar on a few 8 footers just to get used to it. I stepped it up to Max 300, used the bar and got an A
I'm gonna go ahead and say bar use is only really necessary when playing 10 footers +. Other than that you can probably support yourself. _________________

Yeah, the bar has come unnaturally to me. I don't quite know how to make use of it, because of the DDR set up I've had at home. I'm used to kinda looking down and squinting at a tiny TV screen near the ground. So, yeah.
Who cares about people who are new screwing up. They're new. Help them or something if you get so touchy feely about them holding onto the bar or jumping 30 feet into the air or returning their feet to the middle or whatever. |

I saw this kid once and he would play easy songs on standard and it was annoying that he held on to the bar. I say you dont need to hold onto the bar unless you are off balance or if its some crazy song on heavy, like a 10 footer. _________________

Personally, I've really only seen one instance of true bar-raping. It was last week and this guy was playing Paranoia Survivor. I didn't see which song he picked at first, but when I saw him lean back with all of his weight on the bar, I knew something was up. Dude must have had at least 75% of his weight back on that bar and his feet were just flying... simply crazy to watch something like that! He ended up with a B on it and said he could do better but started to cramp up during the song.
My question for you experts out there is: Can anyone do a song like that without bar-raping? I just don't see how it's possible, but I'm sure I could be wrong. |
People AA PSMO without bar. _________________

My friend passed OMES twice in one day and some girl said he was cheating by using the bar. |

I only bar rape when I play a 10 (don't need for Bag) or when I play Burning Heat / Cartoon Heroes. |

I learned how to play on soft pads at home, so I never use the bar. I think I might have used it once when playing Freckles on Heavy. What can I say.... I was tired and out of practice...... |

I use the bar about 80% of time, on easy songs i use 1 or no hand/s, no hands on crossovers, im just used to it, on 10 and some 9 footers i use both hands..... |

Some 8 footers, pretty much all 9 footers I'll use the bar on...and I haven't even tried a 10 footer yet. But what works for me is use the bar if it feels comfortable, then after I know the song really well, I'll force myself off it to improve my balance. |

While I admit to having almost fallen off a couple of times in the past, I would personally have the bars removed. Using the bar doesn't help your technique all that much, looks terrible, and is completely unnecessary. I keep on reading that it's only all right to use the bar on 9 or 10 footers, but to someone who can barely play on standard, butterfly and maxx unlimited may as well be the same thing. If you need a bar to pass something, you shouldn't be playing that song. |

well i for one never use the bar unless i feel like using it on a 10-footer (not all the time) i mainly just use it when doing songs on X3 or X5 and i always use it on Bag X8
other then that i don't need it not for So Deep X3 or and other 9's every now and then i have to use it on the 2nd half of Healing vision angelic mix X2 but that hasn't happend once this month (don't think it will again)
though yesterday when on light mode yesterday doing a 4-step i used the bar for fun, the people all thought i would suck when i grabed the bar on a 4-step on 1.5 solo.... when i AA with like 8 greats or so they shut up.... then i played Sakura 1.5 and passed it without even tuching the bar they left crying.... 450 bpm must have been to fast for them to read ha ha ha! _________________

I have gotten into the bad habit of using the bar (well according to most peeps on this forum it's a bad habit) I feel too close to the screen at my arcade if i dont lean back and hold the bar. Maybe it's a problem with the way the stage is placed, but I have tried moving it and it's a wee bit heavy! At home on step mania though when I have loads of room I can do it fine, but just can't seem to let go of the blasted thing at the arcades! I don't use it for anything less than a 5 footer though. I have just started on 9 footers and I am not a strong enuf player yet to let go forever!
What I don't understand though is, that if the bar wasn't meant to be used in the game then why would they put it there, and make it sturdy enough to hold alot of weight. For example Ez2 doesn't have a bar which can support you, so I don't see why people mock the use of bars so much, it's part of the darn game.

I will use the bar for 10s and really hard 9s since it helps me alot. Depending on how tired I am i will also sometimes use the bar just because of stamina issues (Like when I go to play ddr for 5 hours with friends). Also I use the bar when I play at a certain machine because the difficulty is set on 8 meaning u miss 3 arrows in a row and u can be at no bar. I can pass most cats without bar but its more tiring for me,plus i love raping bars its so fun |

I'll rape the bar for a song like Paranoia KCET and Let Them Move, then when a smartass DDR nerd comes up and talls me anything about using the bar with MY money for MY game, I go and AA Max 300 no-bar and tell the guy, "HOW ABOUT THAT?"
Then I go back to raping whatever 6-8 footer I damn well want. It's my money, my game. _________________
