Beginner mode was a necessity for me but not really for my wife. She tired of it in a week or so, because she has rhythm and could hear the beat.

May I say something a little obvious? Both the manuals and the Lesson mode say very clearly that it is easier not to return your feet to the center of the pad, regardless of difficulty.

I'm pretty anal nerd.gif at reading every page in game manuals and we followed those tips.

For people who have no rhythm, beginner mode is necessary. It's a great way to learn the basics in game as long as you know not to copy the on screen characters.

Everyone in this thread can read; assuming you have a console version of DDR, and some of you probably know someone with one if you don't personally, you can also read the tips section at the end of any of the manuals. Even Disney Mix says it!

This is a great answer. A lot of people try to argue as if there were an absolute truth regarding how people learn.

Well there is at least one absolute truth that is worth pointing out: an entire generation (i.e. the "Pre-Extreme" generation) of players did learn how to play without beginner mode, so it is obviously not necessary even if it is helpful.

I agree that Beginner mode has it's place, although I think the tutorial characters do a lot more harm than good, as veterans hate having the non-musically-fitting background, and it shows a dancer playing in practically the worst way possible.

Hey Grimm-Dog. I never did a single Beginner song, i started on Light for like two days and then i was on Standard. In my opinion, beginner mode is a waste of time.t

It only took you 2 days to get to standard?! shocked.gif How many hours a day did you play? I've been doing it for 6 days and still can't get to standard and it is so frustrating.

It's okay, he's lying, as are a whole lot of other people in this thread.

Standard in 3 days? Heavy in a month? Sure buddy!

I registered here so I could reply to this.

I only played DDR for 4 days, and the First time I played I was on light and played songs like LoM (The arcade I was in had all songs unlocked bbtw), PSM, Max 300, then I moved to standard after one day. I played Trip Machine survivor, HVAM, Paranoia survivor, Max 300, Maxx unlimited, and after that I could regularly beat songs on heavy and some on oni after my 2nd day. I'd say my fast progress was because I spent 50 dollars a day in the arcade riiight.gif or I was a fast progresser, but it is possible to advance as fast as I did, you justn eed to control yourself, plus know what you are doing.

I was able to spend that much because it was in a casino in las vegas, and my dad won about 600 dollars, so I used up to 50$ a day and the rest was on luxory.

I don't really think it a waste of time but I think that it'd be better to just do light mode rather than Beginner. Beginner is for people that have NEVER played the game before.

I started on a machine down town at the arcadea and it had no light setting on it so i started on light. besides if u look at the steps for begginer and light for a song, they are almost the same except for some parts. begginer is fine but if u want my oppinion, its not really worth your money.

FOOLS! Beginner Mode on MaxX Unlimited was tough. I used to be not able to catch up with Light Mode like how 10-steppers doesn't make sense to me now.

Beginner Mode give newcomers a start. Some people get discouraged by something they believe is too challenging. They rather start at a pace that's right for them. Eventually, they do better. It's different styles for everyone to train. Some just start on Heavy Mode all the way through and some start on Beginner for some time.
Either way, we all end up improving. Just don't forget, it all comes down to EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. You must accept that.

Yes, exactly. I may have never done beginner mode in my early years, but it took me about a year to get off Light mode, then another year to get off Standard. Even now, after 4 years of playing, I can't do a single 10. It sucks.

Well I agreee Beginner mode is a waste of time. light is easy enough as it is. if you start off not being able to do even light you r not a true Didder player tongue.gif

but if i was in control i wouldnt have beginner its pointless to me.

Beginner mode is a waste of time unless you're doing like stealth shuffle or something for fun.

First off, it's "BEGINNER". Not some weird buttocks respelling.
Second off - I started on Beginner Mode on DDR USA, thankyouverymuch and I enjoyed it. Beginner is FINE for people that want to start out on DDR. Light is so much less forgiving and especially on Extreme, where like a whole 1 song (Butterfly) is a 1 Foot on Light. Plz. People need more practice than that.

I spent 60 dollars the first day I played DDR. Of course, it was New Years in Florida and I was stuck at an arcade with my Marching Band. Nothing else really seemed appealing but DDR. biggrin.gif

I agree that beginner mode is kind of pointless, as I started playing with DDR Max US which has no beginner mode. However I managed with songs that may as well be beginner (remember you, baby baby gimme your love, ordinary world) and learned the basics that way.

But then again there are people who don't progress or learn as quickly as others. All the adults I know who have tried the game (which are only limited to the parents of my friends, or my mom) cant even follow beginner mode. and they certainly wouldn't manage to do light.

In conclusion... well beginner is there for those who need it. If you don't need it then just ignore it and stop yelling about it being there.

Actually, you couldn't be anymore wrong. Every time I go to the DDR machine here, I notice every person is either playing on beginner's mode, or heavy...nothing in between! It's gotten so bad around here, that girls will come up to me now and ask me which setting I should put it on and I have to put it on light cause I can't stand beginner's mode. See, when I started playing DDR, there was no such thing, there was only light and onwards *shrug*
