hi guys,

i recently finished building a circuit that allows you to have some lights a la arcade (more info). so far i've got it to work so when there is a step, any step, all the lights will go on.

i read a post from cnlohr (one of stepmania's devs) and apparently you can use a step chart just for the lights. does anyone know how this could be achieved?

thank you very much for all your help.

Hi latindude

Here's some info about the lightcharts:

You may want to try the ITG PS2 Simfiles cuz all of them actually have their own lightcharts.
I just tried it with my lights (although I just got two and not all of them)
and they seem to automatically use the light steps if they are available.

Wow it should be pretty impressive when you've all lights set up =)
Could you make a video with an ITG song?

EDIT: Lol sry dude, I forgot to insert the link laugh.gif

hi scorpion,

unfortunately, my lights are all blue right now, so it doesn't look too impressive. they're just leds i got for reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally cheap on ebay and they're working pretty well.

my question was more oriented to the making of the actual simfiles. or if someone has a stepchart with the lights already done and they could post it so i could take a look at it, it'd be great.

you can get the eight lights working for really cheap, you know? just get 8 transistors and 8 leds and a lot of cable. the transistors i got for $1.00 on ebay (18 of them actually) and the leds i got 50 of them for $6.00, so it's quite reasonable.

thanks a lot.

LEDs are really neat and so, but I meant when I set up my lights someday, the whole room should be brightened in various colors biggrin.gif
I already got more than enough cold cathodes, but too lazy to wire them all up -.-

Well this is how a lightchart in a .sm file looks like:

.....
#NOTES:
lights-cabinet:
:
Easy:
1:
1.000,0.401,1.000,0.069,0.004:
00000000
00000000
11110011
00000000
,
00000000
00000000
00000000
00000000
11110011
11110011
00000000
00000000
,
00000011
11110000
00000011
11110000
00000011
11110000
00000011
11110000
.....

Looks like a doubles stepchart. You could try to find out what arrow is for what LED, then create a doubles stepchart in SM's editor and edit it in notepad so that it is a lightchart.

hey scorpion,

thank you for posting the sm file. i noticed all the files i have are dwi though and they seem to have different tags. would i need to convert everything to sm files (and if so, is there a tool to do that?) or can i just add an extra tag somewhere?

A simple solution to your all DWI files problem, just open the song that has only a DWI file in the Stepmania editor, don't change it, and save it. That will create an SM file.

thank you, mr ninja and friends.

i played around with it yesterday and i think i've got it now: the light chart will be eight columns wide, one for each output.

thanks a lot for your help, it's starting to look great.
