hate to break it to you, but this happens with all pads. as far as cracking arrows are concerned, well it hasn't happened to mine and I've been playing pretty hardcore on it (Maxx Unlimited shuffle, BMR's V, and all the ITG 11s and 12s) and I haven't had a problem. Why would you "test" your pad with two random heavy guys? I have a feeling this story is bogus. If your arrows crack, buy new lexan. you'll still have spent less than you would on a CF with the arcade style mod.

Yeah my problem had nothing to do with the way I was playing but was a defect from the beginning plus I believe all afterburners get a 90 day warranty compared to everything elase getting 60 days.

I've been playing lots of doubles 10's and singles 11's and 12's. Now that I have SM hooked up to my TV, I can easily do any difficulty. No problems yet. I don't see how the arrows can break at all.

The Control Boxes no longer have problems, for anyone that was concerned there. I played Stepmania for like 3 hours today, and there is absolutly NO LAG whatsoever. I was AAing 10's. I was amazed. FAR better than a pad hooked up though an adapter. Those of us already know I tested Xbox for awhile and it didn't have any problems there either.

So the only problem I see with this thing now is the eventual need for the sheet metal mod.

I think it sounds like a bogus story as well but I am going to vouch for cracking arrows. I'm just starting to be able to pass 9's and I've had the pad for two months and two of the arrows have small (about one inch) cracks starting. Granted I weigh 155 but that shouldn't be too much for the pad. Although I do play on my toes and I guess that is a lot of weight concentrated in one place, heh. Who knows. Don't get me wrong, I love my burner, and I'm definetely going to mod it when I get it back from RO....maybe that'll take care of everything.

That's what I had thought originally as well but it's a 60 day warranty. And everything else only has 30 days.

Does anyone have any idea whether RO will fix my pad and send it back to me or just send me a new one? And also will the fixed one or the new one have more of a warranty or will I be on my own from here on out?

I'd rather wait a couple months to see if this is true. You seem to be one of the lucky ones who's has no control box issues. I really *hope* the control box problem is fixed because I'd rather pay $250 for an AB than pay $385 (post-shipping and arcade mod) for a CF...

Actually it's past 60 days and I just got an e-mail today saying that I should expect a sticker in the mail to send my pad back. But I have no idea if they just fix it or not. I was told they were going to test it and see the problem. Hopefully I don't get in trouble for taking off the rivits on the top and disconnected the plug inside, will I? E12.gif

um, stuff like that can usually kill a warranty but I don't really know. Can you just undo what you did before you send it back?

I just got mine picked up yesterday so I guess we'll see what happens. Oh yeah, and definetely take that plastic off man. The pad looks damn sexy once it's off.

The plastic is just for packing purposes. So take it off and behold.

Yeah most things like that would kill a warranty but this is a pad that is suppose to be opened in different places and I don' think it matters. I just can't replace the rivits that were there but I can easily put screws on.

I've only had my Afterburner for 3 weeks now and already one of the arrows on it is cracked. I emailed RedOctane about getting replacements sent out to me and this is their reply:

Hello,

Thank you for the email. The replacement arrows for the afterburner is still not availible. Customer witht the first run of afterbrurners will have a 6 month time for arrow replacement. Please cont tact us in 3-4 weeks. Sorry for the delay.

Thank you,
Service RedOctane

Great. So I gotta wait at least a month (maybe longer) to see if they have replacements available yet? Thanks again for the quality service, Red Octane. disturb.gif

Seriously, if you're considering dropping a nice wad of cash on a good pad, don't get an Afterburner. Spend the extra money and get a Cobalt Flux. I should have done that in the first place but didn't listen to all the negative testimonials from the other Afterburner owners here. RO customer service is a complete joke.

What customer support? It's probably a bunch of teenagers with little index cards about what to say on them.

Obviously. I can count 6 typos in that short reply. They couldn't even spell "Afterburners" correctly!!! erm.gif

"Why would you "test" your pad with two random heavy guys? I have a feeling this story is bogus."

I just used the random heavy guys to spice up the story alittle bit, but the two heavy guys are friends of mine, actually the two are twin brothers. Well on with the story. I won the pad in a contest when they were first coming out and plus I have a 2 CF's at home so I really had no use for them. So, I just had my heavy set friends take it home with them and let them play on it for a few hours. By the end of completing all of MAX2's songs the arrows were cracked in many places, and yes I know all pads arrows crack at one point in time, but my CF's have held up against the beating on the heavy set twins and are still running perfectly (for two years now). I'm not trying to run you guys away from the Afterburners, but I'm just pointing out which is the better buy here.

My Afterburner has been having problems. It worked well on arrival, I preordered mine so I got one of the first ones. The "B" button went dead almost immediatley but I never used it so it was no big deal. My arrows started to go bad, especially my Up arrow. I took it apart and cleaned it, and it worked very well for like one song. Now my pad is completley dead. I've done everything I can think of and nothing is working. Is there anything I can do to get my pad running again quickly?

We might as well all stop buying them. None of them are going to work and you'll just have to send it back and wait for it to come back and break again.
