Finnaly, Someone else stated in this thread what Ive been speculating for a while.
Konami wants their market back.
Why?
They might put out a new mix.
You guys act like Dancing Stage Fusion wasnt a huge clue. Bog Standard DDR Cabinet with a new Computer... Sound familiar much? But still. Konami has something planned.
On a side note, Konami has started locking IIDX cabinets with Happy Sky from what I hear. So, no, you cant really just buy a Konami cabinet and stick whatever you want in there. Doesnt work that way. If your going to buy a Konami bemani cabinet, you are going to run your bemain hardware with bemani software. No Excuses. No Choices. Get It through your head.
Some Interesting things worth noting:
ITG2 uses the following code: uuddlrlr
If you dont know what that means, You should be shot. Or you could just Educate yourself:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami_Code
You will notice that the code is used in 4 DDR games and the Drummania series.
Popn' KO from what i hear runs an older GPL release of stepmania, So therefore they cant sell it legaly. Thats against the law. I hope they got all pissed off over Guyz Dongz. because you know what, After what ive seen them say and stuff, and what theyve been doing over the years, They can probably go to hell in my book. _________________

Like the other guy did earlier, I'm just here to address bad analogies (and make my own - good analogies, I mean).

If Roxor wins this, all copyrights everywhere will become invalid and innovation will cease (some will argue it has already ceased) because all you have to do is steal your competitors' idea and then reference this case, saving millions in R&D and development costs. |
Wait. Stealing competitors' ideas and concepts is NEW? Cut down on the hyperbole.
Fun fact: this is about patents, not copyrights. And with the patents that Amazon is going after, patent law is getting hokier and hokier.
Wolfman wrote: | DragonWolf_, for the record, I think there are plenty of people in both fanboy camps who "hate" the other game. Lots of people moved over to ITG and then declared DDR "dead," or "crappy," etc. However, I must say that I find it even more rediculous to hate on DDR (than hating on ITG) when DDR is the ONLY reason that ITG even exists. I call that being completely ungrateful. |
Bad reasoning. The NES may have only existed because of Atari. Is it somehow wrong to think the old Atari is bad based on how good the NES is, or is it somehow "ungrateful" to dislike it and the company that stopped making home consoles?
There is no "worse." Being a blind fanboy for either is bad (and being a fanboy of a CORPORATION is really bad, but that's another argument). |

That's a great idea. 9-arrow setup, and you can pick your layout. PIU, DDR, DDR Solo, or full 9-arrow. Songs up to 20 level. I'd play it... if it was in an arcade.
Sorry for the co-tangent. |

Wolfman Jake wrote: | Yeah, that's what makes me really wonder what's going through the Roxor team's heads and who is giving them legal advice. That claim is simply ridiculous. I can imagine a judge viewing Exhibit A of DDR and Exhibit B of ITG and banging his gavel after 30 seconds, ordering Roxor to bend over and brace themselves.
Also, I've got a feeling that Mad Katz and RedOctane will settle with Konami, which will put a metric assload of pressure on Roxor. |
Fixed.
The contact information for the lawyers, including phone numbers, is listed on the documents, so if you're really wondering... ;D
Hmm, that might be interesting. Looking at the timeframe between all this (Roxor filed 7-25, Konami filed 8-15, order for discovery 8-something) you'd think that both of those companies would have noticed. And done something if they were going to.
Uiru, sorry to mention this, but you said it at least twice. It's "precedent".
DDRNemesis wrote: | So does that mean Konami would have to get rid of their logo or what? |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Konami abandoned this style of logo in favor of this:
TCBCR.Toastercookie wrote: | ITG was in the works long before alot of people got wind of it. |
I know. Has anyone read Kyle Ward's LJ? If I remember correctly, he mentions a "secret project" or something to that effect as early as 2003. I might be slightly off on the date.

Didn't Technomotion not do too well? But nice math reference anyway. _________________

Wait, there are OTHER dancing games than PIU, DDR, and ITG? But seriously, I've never heard of Technomotion before.
*quick google search later*
Holy crap, it's like typing with your feet. Hey, that's a good idea too! Damnit, this tangent sucks. |

Ive been playing Konami games since I was 6. I have the right to say this:
Old Konami Logo > New Konami Logo
ON
ALL
LEVELS
Konami needs to represent themselves with them squiggly lines again. It was golden.
No. NO Technomotion refrences.
Just... Just... NO. _________________

Cool! It would be nice to have a 9-panel dance pad layout and have every song from every dance game in one single megagame. The songs will have their original steps plus new ones. Maybe even have the sensor pads for Dance Freaks installed, too! Then you'd really have a party! Maybe even a PARANOiA-Disconnected-Will-o-the-Wisp megamix with steps using all nine panels and rings that use the Dance Freaks sensors! You could make THAT a 21-footer!! |

Yeah, I think in the original complaint that was what Konami said. They said that it didn't want to be associated with an inferior product. _________________

Well unless Konami calls the bluff by trying to defend hardware that hasn't seen a release for two and a half years, they would go ahead and do some damage to Roxor by announcing a new American arcade mix, which will further strengthen the infringement claim, since it'll give the judge and the jury the impression that Konami still gives a damn about their hardware. That and going on what yyr said, it's so diametrically opposite for Konami to milk money out of a competitor that makes a rival product for hardware that is seen as supposedly "expendable" in Konami's eyes, as well as not posing any finnancial risk to them with regard to that product. However, if I were Roxor, i would use their "hiatus" as a defense by claiming that they are defending something that they might not make games for.
Either way, the DDR Extreme absence can help both sides, either help one to take action to retain the integrity of their case or to help another point out flaws and weaknesses in his opponents arguments. _________________

That reminds me, that whole "Were Just Getting Started Bit" could be used by Konami to say "Their product disses our product, In addition to stealing the cabinet our product is intended to run in" _________________
