I was planning on just starting with my three friends that play DDR and building it up from there. It's my freshman year and I think it would be a great way to make friends.
Any suggestions? |

I don't know about your school, but the requirments to start a club at my school is a teacher to run it and you have to do community service. If you have to do that in your school, you could have fundrazers and donate DDR mats somewhere or something like that.
(I just want DDR in my gym...) _________________

Actually, all you need is an advisor (a teacher willing to stay after school to take responsibility) as far as I know. I'd ask your teachers if they are interested in helping you out. _________________

You should do a search, because there have been quite a few threads over time about this, and you might be able to find some good advice there.
I would imagine a P.E. teacher would be a good target faculty member because you could sell him/her on the fitness aspect of the game. _________________

The first thing would be to find out if there are people who ACTUALLY like the game in the first place. |

This is probably the biggest thing of any club: Interest. I'd suggest that you put up flyers about an informational meeting around school so that you can get a basic count of how many people you can expect to show up.
If it is your freshman year though, I'd suggest that rather than just outright opening up a club, you join other ones and just get more comfortable with your teachers and fellow students (After re-reading that sentence, I feel like a college brochure). You'll make more friends and such and be able to figure out where and when to have your club meetings so you'd get the most people. (For example, I had my school's DDR Club meet in the mornings before school so kids couls still play sports in the afternoon.) _________________

I started one. Its easy this is what i did.
Me and my 3 freinds went to the principle and asked if we can have a lan party at the school. The principle said yes so we told the whole school about it. 1/3 of the school came and i brought my ddr stuff. Everyone was like oooo and aaah and i tried not to laugh. Well i had a sign up sheet if they wanted to make a team and audition. Well about 52 signed up. 15 were good and the rest didn't know how to play. So i randomly chose a not so good person and put in him in a little tourny.so there was 16 ppl for tourny. They played after school cause i asked the principle if i can bring my stuff. He said i could but he is not responsible for my stuff being stolen so i said ok. So after a week of deliberating i got a team me and 4 others.
2 months later there was another lan party and this time around 2/3 of the shcool came cause most of them wanted to sign up for the team. It is really boring watching others play at the auditions. 3 hours a day. for 2 weeks. And i dont know who to choose for a team.
I hope this helps. |

I tried my P.E teacher he didn't like the idea because its a video game. I told it him all phisical aspects about the game. But he still said no but quickly changed his mind after i got the club started. So now i belive that for 2 days they will play ddr. I like the idea but im sophmore and you can only take gym class for freashmen only. It sux but o well |

It would be awesome if DDR could become a sport that different schools compete in. Like a DDRer's Highschool League or something like that. Think it'll ever happen? _________________

Thanks a lot for the input, everyone!
I think I'm going to schedule a time to bring my stuff to scope out the talent and see if I can find people to join. |

There was one in my school for a while, but it quickly died out. The only other time there was DDR in school was when we hosted a small tourney. _________________

While you're on the topic of tounaments, I was wondering how to convince a teacher at school to let you do this in school. Hosting one at my house is out of the question, and the owner of my local arcade said no as well. What can I do? |

4 me hosting a tourny at school was easy. I was a good kid at school and i helped out everytime i could. When i asked my principle loved the idea and he helped me out with the tourny. He would make the prizes. The prize was 5 homework passes. I won them. I used them fast. But try to help out your teachers and faculty. Once the principle trusts you a lot then he/she will. The biggest way is helping the janitor clean tables and stuff after lunch. but if you go to private school or something your screwed and i cant help you on that. Its also easier when you live in a small town like i do. Like 400 students then you can do it easily. If its a big city you might have a problem. So i hope this helps. |

I'm also thinking about starting a DDR club at my school...but the problem is where to host it... The Gym is a no, and so far it seems to teacher wants to volunteer... and I gotta think really fast since were going back to school. This club shall be a private club until we get enough ppl to join and then if it gets big enough we can actually buy a machine. So far for the machine me and a couple of friends have at least $500-$700. But the thing is where to put it... any ideas? |
