The arcade version totally pwnz the home version. I dunno why, but I find playing DDR on a mat at home waaay harder than doing it at an arcade. I recently got DDR for my Playstation, and for some reason I couldn't even pass B4U on standard. many obcenities came out of my mouth at that, at even tho I've gotten better at playing on the mat, I still prefer the arcade.

It's not even a question: arcade.
arcade pads don't cease to function after two weeks, and you can actually tell what arrows you're stepping on. E1.gif

My home pad is a lot easier, but where i go for the arcade game, the sensors dont work as well. I saw a bunch small kids stomping on the arrows and not even playing.

I like my RedOctane pad. It's the good one and registers like a mutha*. I got it about 5 months ago, play it almost daily and have had no problems. I can play barefoot in my sports bra and boxers as long as I want for free with the music on surround sound as loud as I want (during the day anyways).
I swear if DDR ever wanted to do some weight loss thing I could be like, "I lost ten pounds in 3 months playing DDR"... Swear to God.
If arcade could be free, I'd be there all the time, cuz I want to freestyle... eventually...

My wife and I agree wholeheartedly to that! Cheers!

It's even better if you live in a basement appartment with good walls, no walls or ceilings shaking or anything!

I personally think they are about equal with the exception of song selection.
I always hear people saying things about how the timing windows on home versions are "LIEK ZOMG DEY R SO FRIKING HUEG WTF" and that its so much easier. Sorry but it's not THAT much of a difference, at least not enough that it will affect your gameplay at the arcade if your used to playing at home or vice versa. The only reason I prefer home to arcade is that most arcades (at least in my experience) unfortunately don't maintain their pads as well as they should which really waters down the "grand experience" of playing at the arcade.

Arcade pros: bigger song selection (unless you import)
cons: faulty pads, exposure to people who think you are gay, paying every time you want to play

Home pros: pay once and play forever... (unless your pads die, but thats why you get a warranty), no travel required
cons: timing differences, sync problems, dance play options (DIE EXTREME!!!)

Okay I'm done now E4.gif

After transitioning from home version to arcade version, I think arcade is better because the pad doesn't slide when you play high BPM songs and I get to choose songs I don't have at home. E4.gif At home I can't pass high BPM songs because the pad slides all over the place. E2.gif I practice on the controller when I'm at home to keep it fresh in my head, then I go to the arcade when I want to play.

I've only played the arcade version 3 times (and strangely enough, each time was in a different state that I didn't live in), but overall, I have to say the ddr arcade experience is really second to none. The real difference as far as the gameplay goes between home and arcade I'd have to say is the strictness of the arcade's timing, which can be pretty frustrating when making the transition from home to arcade. But when the music is going with the lights flashing and the crowd gathering -- with a whole dollar on the line -- there's nothing like it.

i have 2 cobalt flux pads at home, but i would still have to say that its much better at the arcades. you can get huge crowds, and the pads are simply more professional, and usually more accurate. on the other hand, some places have sucky pads, but i would still do it for the crowd rather than at home.

The arcade is definetily a ton better once you get used to it imo, plus once again the song selection is better.

ah, of course. i forgot about the song selection. haha. where else can you do paranoia survivor but at the arcades?

but the draw back of the arcade is that you have to get used to the pads.. if you've been playing ddr for a few months at home, you'll find the arcade pads to be much differnt and harder to play on, but once you get used to them, they're much better than home pads

well i started in the arcade but now that i have my CF pad and stepmania w/ all of the DDR songs and some anime songs i got myself i enjoy home and to tell u the truth it is cheaper for me to get a CF and play at home then it is to goto the arcade and play my heart out over time. i still play at the arcade (Nettopia is t3h r0x) just to play doubles on a nice arcade pad and sometimes show off to the people that wander in and wonder how the hell u do it after trying themselfs and being laughed at.

arcade = friends and funny

home = some friends and very hard core practice w/ some slow stuff

oh once again i play on a wonderful CF at home hahaha....sory to gloat but if u really want to save money in the long term then it is ur best bet is to get a reliable pad.
