Yeah, I figured it must be the Xbox wiring that is bad. Funny, so many people have had trouble with the Control Box on their RO Afterburners as far as using the pad for the Xbox is concerned, and it looks like it's been a problem since the Ignition 2.0 (some of them at least. My first Iginition 2.0 worked flawlessly with my Xbox). I think I'm just going to cash in on that replacement plan I purchased and try my luck with a new pad. Hopefully it's a random problem with some units and not a case of a whole batch of them going out defective (again, Afterburner problems). If that fails, I might have to get an adapter. Haven't people had problems with lag when using those adaptars, though?

Why dont you get a home made pad. It could cost less the CF or AB. Though a lil time consuming

As far as I can tell it was a batch, since I have the replacement plan as well. I'm on my 9th Ignition, and the last 4 were traded in within a month because of the Xbox problem. The one I have now is a 3.0, it died the day I got it but I'm too lazy to return it for a new one.

I have a Gemini adapter, and it's worked with no lag for:

Ignition 2.0
Ignition 3.0
Cobalt Flux
RO Metal

All the RO ones I used it because of the bad Xbox wiring, and the reason I use it for the 'Flux should be obvious.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I JUST REALLY REALIZED WHAT EVERYONE'S PROBLEM IS!

Dance Play Settings!

LISTEN UP EVERYONE:

If you have DDR Extreme USA for the PS2, there is an option missing in it: Dance Play Settings.

THIS CAN NOT BE FIXED. This causes the X, O, [], and ^ buttons to register as Down, Right, Left, and Up, respectively.

As if you were playing with a controller.

On ALL other PS2 versions, this can be fixed.

Including ITG.

This is where everyone's so called "ghost-steps" are coming from, okay?

If you are using DDR Extreme USA, you will continue to have this problem. FOREVER. It is NOT the pad, it is the damn game. Go ahead and use MAX, MAX2, any japanese version, or the real reason behind the 3.0, StepMania.

If you are STILL having problems on other non-DDR Extreme USA games, it IS the pad. Just take out the foam and shake out the pad.

Remember to treat your pad as if it was the most awesome thing ever.

And try not to have your half-brother spill beer on the pad at your July 4th party >_>;

Yes this was discussed before. Someone actually call RO about it and they said yes they know about the problem. Its not yours individually.

Considering that the guy above me had it, and I've had 3 pads that had it, I know it's a general problem and not mine individually.

I got a 3.0 when it first came out. 3 months later I had to exchange it because the up arrow stopped registering. I thought it might be because I played heavy songs all the time. I had that one for 2 weeks and I got another one Monday (5 days ago). Now THIS one is turning to crap. The triangle button is registering as the UP arrow and registering anytime I hit the left button or the back button or ANYTIME I raise my feet from the pad. Also, whenever I hit the back arrow and leave my foot on the arrow, it registers the UP arrow also and if I have to hit the up arrow it gives me a boo and then doesn't register any other up arrow after that.

This is getting annoying, but unfortunately, I am forced to just keep exchanging them until EB tells me no (I got the warranty at least). Can anyone tell me why this pad is faulty? 3 in 4 months? And the guy at EB said that he's had 2 others returned (not mine) for the same reason. I've e-mailed RO, but have yet to hear anything after a week. I may call their number tomorrow.

I wish they had a 2.0. I had my 2.0 for 1.5 years before it started ripping. frown.gif I miss that one...

Sorry to say that turning off the corner buttons is NOT the problem. Read above for other problems. I had the corners turned off of ITG from day one and 2 pads have been doing the same thing. So I did a little experiement today. I took the foam insert out and tried the pad. I got a 97% on a song without the pad and then put the pad back in and got a 37%. What, what????? I did this with a few songs with the same skewed results. Can anyone explain that? Is it possible that my 3 pads in the past month have been from a bad batch? I can't get a hold of RO to find out (do they every answer their phone or e-mails???) whats going on. EB is out of 3.0 pads and are trying to locate one from another store. These guys have been super helpful. I hope the one they get from another store isn't from the same batch.

Did it occur to you at all AceJay that the people posting in this thread are rather savy DDR players and know all about corner buttons and whatnot? The pads don't work well on ANY dancing game, period, regardless of whether the corner buttons are turned on or off OR if the game even offers the option. The performance is still the same: dead or extremely fickle arrows resulting in tons of pad misses and phantom steps. Might wanna think your next big idea through a little more before you post your own thread about it too.

hello everyone,

I purchased a Red Octane Ignition 3.0 on July 2nd 2005 (a little over a month ago) and got it with the warranty. I thought that this was great because if I have any problems within a year, I can keep getting a new one. The mat was great, but now its starting to be not responsive and randomly thinks buttons are pressed, and now I'm reading my receipt and it states:

"Accessory PRP" entitles purchaser to a one time replacement should product be determined defective one year from date of purchase. Reciept is required as proof of purchase for replacement of defective item.

Acording to the users of this forum, you can exchange the pad with the warranty as many times as you wish, do they not mark the receipt or something?

Just fork over ten bucks and get a new year warranty.

What I've been doing.

Yeah, its not the corner buttons. I have problems on Max2 and ITG with the buttons off and I still have problems.

Well, today I took it back and got myself an nice new 2.0 instead of the shitty 3.0. The girl at Best Buy said it could have something to do with the PS2. She said to bring it in here and the Geek Squad (laugh.gif) could take a look at it.

Yeah... Right. They just want my money. E15.gif

Alright so I have a question, I "accidently" left my 3.0's USB cord in the computer so it never went back when I took it back. So I figured that I could just remove my X-Box cord on the 2.0 and plug it in. Fits just fine, makes the noise like when something else is plugged in, but it doesn't work in Stepmania. I tried to re-map the buttons, but it doesn't work either. Any suggestions or drivers that I may have to install?

Im going to E-mail RO tonight to see if they have anything to suggest, but I doubt they'll help me out too much.

Edit:

The product is a 60 day warranty from the time of purchase. As long as you return it within that time frame, your good. The warranty will renew it self and you will have another 2 months to return it, if it should (and most likely will) start to act up again.

Okay, so of the three major pad-makers I konw (BNS, LevelSix, and RO) - I don't like BNS's pad (the surface is too slippery for me, LevelSix is perenially sold out, and RO is expensive.

I'm recovering from ankle surgery and want to buy a soft pad for rehabilitation (since going straight to a CF would be frick stupid and I don't trust RO Afterburners quite yet). I used to be an 8-foot Heavy player so I'd like to get up to that point before I make the switch to a hard pad.

Is the RO worth the extra $50 or should I just eBay a soft pad? Keep in mind my rehab will start me in Light mode and I'll probably spend 2-4 weeks on Light, 2-3 weeks on Standard, and then see how I progress in Heavy.

If you're truly worried about cost and don't need PC USB Compat, we sell Ignition 2's on EBay for a VERY good price from time to time. Check http://stores.ebay.com/Redoctane for listings.

"Time to Time" won't quite cut it - I need to buy this pad within 2 weeks.

It's not that I'm worried about cost, it's that I'm worried about cost compared to quality. RedOctane has always been the most expensive of any Ignition pad maker and yet judging by these threads the official RO Ignition pads seem to have as many problems (if not more) than the eBay/BNS/LevelSix/whatever Ignition pads.

I mean, a POS is a POS. Multi-system connectivity isn't worth the extra $50 when the pad will break in the same amount of time as a $20 eBay Ignition.

Edit - Also, I'm going back up to school (4+ hours from home and no Gamestops within 100 miles) next weekend, so if I buy an Ignition from a store and it breaks, I have no way to return it. Would rather avoid having to deal with that if possible.

Hi everyone. I recently bought a RO Ignition. I believe it was a version 1. The pad came with this small wire. I'm not sure what it is for (my pad did not come with instructions). Does anyone know what it is? Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure that what you're talking about is the XBox Live Headset Extender Cable.

Ya know, so you can mess with people while dancing online...heh.

Other than that, some walkie talkies use that plug format.
