Well that question was answered late last night when my left arrow started acting a fool, heh. I don't know exactly what's wrong with it. It's not quite dead because it works some of the time. Especially if I step towards the far left side of it. But, it still makes playing pretty much useless.

I think I'm falling within DAYS of my 60 day warranty (which btw I thought was 90 days...did that change somewhere along the way?) So hopefully I can get it exchanged. Also...stupid stupid me did not save the little internet receipt thing so I don't actually have a receipt at all. I paid with my credit card so I guess I have proof that I purchased it but will that be enough?

Anyways, I opened the pad up and took some picutres of the arrow that isn't working and I noticed that mine looks different than the pictures posted by gene|4. Where the nice little square of foil is cut out in those pics mine isn't cut like that and has two holes in the foil that look almost burnt from where there are some wires and glue. But I looked at my other arrows and they're the same way so I'm guessing that doesn't have much to do with it. But I do wonder why there's a difference.

Anyway, if anyone has had this happen to them and they know of a quick fix or at least what the problem may be then let me know. I'm going to try it with a different control box tonight and see if that may have something to do with it but I'm doubting it. E2.gif

I cant believe people buy these pads. They are ripping people off. The use of foil is not acceptable at all. Dude. Send it back and make your own pads. Much better quality and in the end is well worth it.

I have some questions about this pad,
1. Can you do the Sheet Metal Mod to this pad?
2. Is it worth getting if you're using it with a PS1?
3. Are the Pannels bowed up?
sorry if these questions have already been answered ( i didnt read the whole topic too long )

1) I don't see why not
2) Absolutly, although no one really knows how long they will last
3) Yes, but actually it feels nice, not cheap.

Yea...copper is a good thing. It conducts electricity better than just normal metal. So yes It would be a good thing.

But *foil* is a very bad thing. It will not last long at all. A thin aluminum sheet wouldn't be very much less conductive (hell, transistors in CPUs were aluminum until the recent switch to copper), and it wouldn't tear, peel, etc.

It's quiet unless the person is stomping...then you hear the foot hitting the arrow, but the pad doesn't make noise.

Tell your brother to stop stomping. That shortens the life of every pad, even arcade pads will succumb to it. Stomping also makes DDR A LOT harder.

I never did the sheet metal mod so I can't help you there.

My pad has been perfect since I got it a while ago but last week I brought it to a party and this n00b stomped too much and now the part on the pad that connects to the CBOX won't stay down on one side. Errrrrrrr now I have to open it because it won't work at all.

This pad is meant to take anything a player can dish out. Maniac mode will not damage it. We still have yet to see how LONG it lasts though. I play doubles heavy a lot and mine are still perfect.

Hello. I just registered to tell about my Afterburner. It was about two months old and I'm beginning to play expert ITG songs and whatnot (9's/10's). It seems that right when I got to this level my pad started dying. I mean, I've played heavily almost every day like 1-3 hours since I got it. I weigh 192. I had a CBox replacement to fix the Xbox and PC disconnects, so this CBox is just fine.

So I noticed one day that a lot of my steps weren't registering like they were before, and a couple of my arrows just wouldn't hold a freeze arrow for anything. Frustration consumed me, and I took off a panel to look for the culprit. The copper foil on the bottom of the arrow panel had many cracks and splits in it. Grr.

The copper they used may be thicker, but it does eventually crack and cause problems under heavy use in a couple of months. Luckily, being under warranty, I sent it back and am getting a new one. I don't really want a new one seeing as it's going to do the same damn thing, but oh well. I don't want to pay $300 for a CF, $25 for the arcade mod, and $20 for a converter, and then shipping. I guess $240 for the AB just isn't enough to make a quality product that lasts over 2 months.

Sad story frown.gif

Anyone have the sheetmetal mod link?

Ok...I knew it was gonna happen, but not this soon.

My left pad has almost completely ceased to function.....now I'm pretty sure it's sudden death is the Cboxes fault as it usually is.

So...anyone else have this happen? Should I just send the CBoxes back?

Well, to go right along with what Vile said that's almost exactly how it happened to me. I had it for two months and I played about 1-3 hours a day about 5 days a week. I'm also just starting 9 footers and it seemed to be holding up to the abuse great till the left arrow just stopped responding 90% of the time or so. (I tested it with my friends cbox so I know that's not the problem) So, I'm in the same situation. I get to ship it back and get a new one (days before my warranty runs out) but what am I going to do with a new one? In another two months I'll be in the same situation. So, I did what I always seem to do. I got on ebay. Got myself a used CF. Now I just have to order the arcade kit and I guess I'm good to go. I just wish I would've listened when everyone told me not to test my luck out on this pad and just bought the CF to begin with. So, yeah...unless you only play occasionally...I wouldn't suggest this pad. $250 is too much to spend on something that only functions correctly for two months.

Nooooo! After the pretty pics you had, I had high hopes for success.

...But I might still try my luck with this and use the warranty if it fails.

Switch the cboxes and make sure it's cbox and not pad first.

just got my afterburner, and I'm having no problems with disconnects or arrows not working.

if your contacts stop working, just go to the home depot, buy some sheet metal, and tape it to the underside of the arrow. problem solved.
