Bumped because my other thread got locked without resolution.....

My Cobalt Flux has cracked down the middle. From the top of the UP arrow to the bottom of the DOWN arrow, the wood is just about severed in two. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix it.

My first thought was to attach a thick wooden board to the bottom of the pad to reinforce it. However, I'm not sure if that would be strong enough. However, doing this would add some much needed mass to the pad.

If anyone has any other suggestions or advice, I'd appreciate it.

I seriously doubt that. It's 99.9999% likely that your control box crapped out. If you know someone with a control box they'll let you borrow, you can test it out, or get a new one if you're still under the warranty.

It has to be the pad. *used 3 different control boxes on the pad, used the control box I was using on a different pad, tested pin out on the control box, the control box is fine (except for one, but I know it's broken and the down arrow still worked with it on the other pad)*

Only thing that fixes it is repositioning the wire on the top layer of sheet metal and that only works for a few minutes.

If it's still under warranty, send [email protected] an email about it. They're good with things like that (but not if part of the pad doesn't work frust.gif). If it's not under warranty, send them an email anyway, I've heard they're decent with prices and it would probably be better to just buy a new bottom from them than to try and just attatch something to the bottom.[/quote]

Bah, I leave out information from my other post and it kicks me back in the butt.

My pad is 2 years old. My warrenty has expired.

Also, I am the one person in all the forums who was not happy with my CF purchase. I don't really want another one. I would much rather use this experience to learn more pad construction (so maybe some day I can make my own).

Don't know if this was asked before but...

Can this pad be used for PIU too? It says 9 buttons on pad itself but will it work for a PUMP import?

The pad does support PIU, but it currently supports only the PC version natively.

According to CF, the upcoming control box will have a Pump mode that will let you play it with the console releases, but that control box has not yet been released and no release date has been given.

Alright... I have a question.

Im thinking about telling my parents that I want either a Cobalt Flux or a RO Afterburner. I want to get something thats super close to the arcade how ever.

Afterburners already have the recessed arrows, which is like the arcade, but I don't like the style of it. Im more into DDR than ITG right now.

I know you can get a Flux with an arcade mod on, and that makes it like the arcade too, it looks like a arcade DDR pad, but its a little expensive, and that would prolly be my whole Christmas present right there laugh.gif (especially if she buys 2 because my little brother wants one too).

Im struck between CF or RO... Can anyone help me out on this?

Btw, if I lean toward the CF, which kind of arcade mod should I get? E15.gif

that one's easy: cobalt flux.

but here's why:

the RO Afterburner may look pretty and everything, and it may even have recessed arrows like the arcade, but on the other hand, there have been numerous reports of dead arrows, cracked arrows, and bad control boxes. RO has very mean customer support reps, and sooner or later, you'll probably have to deal with one. My biggest problem with the Afterburner is its foil contacts. This means that your pad will be very likely to have things such as dead arrows.

the CF has contacts made of thicker metal, so that they will not wear as easily. This will drastically increase the life of your pad. CF has a much better reputation than RO, and is generally a better product. If you decide to go for the arcade mod, go with the Clear mod with type 2 brackets. It's the sexiest. But as for comparing these pads to the arcade, the CF will come much closer, but only the arcade pad can be truly like the arcade. No pad is perfect. Go to www.cobaltflux.com and look at their forums. Even they will tell you that. Also, if you play Ultramix, you may want the RO because of "native xbox support." erm.gif

If I was in your situation, I would definitely go with the CF + Arcade Mod. You'll probably get a lot more value for your money.

Assuming that they fix the Controlbox problem by Christmas (which it sounds like is when he'll get his pad), CF should have their PS2/Xbox/PC control box out by then. The reason it's not out yet is because they're still testing it and trying to come out with the best design instead of just pushing out something that doesn't work half the time like RO.

As for the customer support, I had a problem with my Flux, and the next day got a response that actually dealt with my problem. When I had my RO pad, all I got was a one sentence response telling me to try unplugging the pad and plugging it back in when my Left and Down arrow were completely dead. I eventually sent the pad back for a refund and it took three months of constant calling and emailing to get my money back.

And for the arcade bracket, I wanted clear at first, but black is starting to grow on me. *imagines black with ITG2 panels*

Thanks for the help guys!

I don't have an X-Box, but I do like to play Stepmania on the PC. They're gonna add Xbox and PC at the same time? Awesome! I won't have to worry about telling my parents what adapters to buy and not buy.

Im still stuck on the arcade mod though. I am going to get type 2 no matter what, but im stuck on black or clear... Those ITG2 Arrows with the black would look good, but it would look good too if I took out the corner decals and just used the DDR arrows with the clear mod...

Oh, and another question. If you wanted to, could you just print out some decals on lets say, Photo Glossy paper, could you still use those instead of having to go to Kinkos or something like that to have them laminated?

I didn't read all 28 pages but from what I hear this is a very reliable pad and a very good buy... but what about a bar? I'm not GREAT yet and can't pass Max300 or anyother ten footers that ive played without a bar... Right now I am using a wooden chair as a bar, behind my ignition 2.0 .... lol So what should I do? Buy a CF and try to MAKE a bar? or is this just the wrong pad for me?

For the arcade mod kit, the clear goes under the panels so the pad feels the same, and the black is textured a little. I'm not sure how this affects movement, but it's something to consider.

You can print out your own decals. The Pictures section at the CF forums has a bunch of pictures of people's originals, and CF is going to beginning offering different sets as well.

Josh's pads are awesome. Oddly, I almost bought one of them, but then he figured out how to use a power drill.

Has anybody considered making a homemade arcade mod with metal sections, following the construction principles of home-built pads?

Once I have some disposable income and CF starts churning out a USB control box, I'm gonna buy a pair of pads and try making a metal arcade mod.

And I hope the USB works in Linux, also.

It doesn't necessarily follow the principles of homebuilt pads, but this works.

I don't know if anyone has posted here about this yet, but over on the CF forums, I read that if you get the black arcade mod, you are supposed to use the black panels instead of your lexan, which you should be aware of if you order this pre-installed on your CF (this means you will be ripped off for 5 lexan panels). If you order the Clear mod pre-installed, you still get all your lexan. I'll try and find the link...

EDIT: Scroll down until you see Vance's Post...
You also may want to see Sinistar's pictures of how much height increase youcan get from the black mod.

All right, I had about a million questions before I got here but I read back a few pages and a lot of them answered themselves so now I'm down to two or three. I don't even have a CF yet but I'm putting a lot of thought into buying one and if I do I'm definetely getting a mod kit. So, now I'm on to the pesky little decision of deciding which one. Looks wise I'd go for the black ones but I was wondering if there was any difference in the height between the two? I realize you pair the clear ones with the lexan and the black ones replaces the lexan...so are the clear ones thinner so that it's the exact same as the black alone? Or does it sit a bit higher? The black doesn't look very high so if the clear added even a bit more I'd probably go for that.

Also, I really like the looks of the itg2 decals...how do you go about getting those? Are you guys making them youselves?

And one last thing...what is the difference between the v1 and v2...I was possibly thinking of picking one of these up off this guy on ebay (dangerous, I know, heh) but I'd like to be able to tell which version it is. I saw a post about it before but all the links to the pics were broken, bah.
