I try not to use the bar but mostly i use it to catch myself if I am about to fall from going to fast or running out of air, occasionly I will start to hold my breath to focus on my movement so I can go faster.
I dont care if the beginner use the bar even though I dont understand why i just hate it when they are twitchy and yelling for any reason. |

i have made a couple of my beginner friends try and they hold on to the bar and they still end up tripping and sometimes falling. but still i know a guy who can do like a flare on the bar very cool looking. _________________

I must admit I did that when I played Light and Standard because I thought that it was all the pro's that used the bar *cough*
But I've stopped that now.. ahem. |

The reason they included a bar was for using it, not avoiding using it. _________________

Thank you for saying that..Otherwise it's your own opinion on the bar, I avoid using the bar on all songs except for max's and some edits |

I play 5-7 footers on standard. So most of the songs i play don't merit bar use. But because of the stomping of fat children, and spilling of beer and soda by idiots, the machines sensors won't allow freezes of longer than about a full note (four quarter notes). So on the longer freezes I have to hold onto the bar and lean forward while pushing down on the arrow.
Stupid fat kids with sodas... grrrrrr |

Well, if that happens, just tap the arrow until the freeze note's done, it works just the same as holding it down... _________________

I hate using the bar, but I don't see what the problem with using it is. |

heh, I'm too small to use the bar. I don't like the bar that much anyways. I feel I can go faster without using it. That's jsut my opinion. I know kids that won't play unless that trusty bar is behind them. _________________

Since I started playing DDR, which is about 5 years ago, I never used the bar in any way. Now, ITG2 came out around here and I tried doing some 10 footers (Disconnected Hyper, My favorite game, Hand of time, for instance) and I can pass them without the bar, but barely ! I chose to try the bar and it helps me on the 10's and 11's to get a better PA and be less tired at the end of the song. I can now do 2 ITG 10 footers in a game, which I can't when not using the bar because it tires me too much.
Point of my post : Using the bar is okay in my opinion, but only on 10 footers and up ! |

I only tend to use a bar for either a) A 10+ footer, or b) a song I never have played before, and it's like rated a 9 or 8.
I don't really mind whether people use the bar or not. _________________

I'm running a large Midwestern tournament in October and I'm currently working on coming up with rules and organizing things. I'm working on developing the mod options for the tournament, and my question for you folks is:
What do you guys think of "Bar" and "No Bar" mod options for a DDR tournament? It would function the same way as a normal mod choice would--you could choose 2x No Bar if you had two mod choices, for example. Or, you could require both players to use the bar if you had one mod choice.
For further explanation, No Bar would mean that you can only touch the bar if you are losing your balance, and then with only one hand very briefly (the Tournament Judges would determine this in good faith). Bar would mean that you'd be required to be holding onto the bar with a firm grip with at least one hand for the entire song (again, the judges would determine this in good faith).
If you were entering this tournament and had these mod options available, would you choose them in lieu of specifying a speed mod or visibility mod? Would No Bar players be happy? Would Bar players be happy? Other thoughts? |

I trick bar, a LITTLE. It can make me do worse. Or better. Like, I'd wear myself out with Max too easily without it but with it I'd f*ck up. Badly. _________________

I think that it's perfectly alright to use a bar on 9-footers, 10-footers, and certain 8-footers that you need it for. It's just a matter or choice, really. _________________

Well, we got rid of ddrex (Only used the bar for maxes and ps/psmo), and got ITG2, so it's barring all around.
Personally, I'd love to see you pro-no-bar guys on an ITG2 machine doing 12s and 13s. _________________
