i believe one of my ddr metal pad-esque paint diagrams would be helpful here:

im completely unsure about this tactic, as it doesnt prevent the excess 6v from draining into the controller. if it works for a while, and the pcb doesnt burn out, it should be fine.

thats an npn transistor btw, and you will need one for each button. but you only need 1 6v source.

im no engineer, but if someone wanted to help me with the controller backwash i would be happy.

Sorry I haven't seen any posts other than those on the first and last page so looking at Cartoonhero's diagram I take it someone's thinking of building a pop'n controller?

Oh...and being a n00b at pop'n...I would like to know if all the Pop'N Music console game versions are imports only? So none of them work on a US PS2 right?

What you need help on? I doubt I could help much...but I can try! E4.gif

*sigh*....Well is it possible that in the near future Pop'n will come to the US? I'm really desperate for a new DDR related game.

well i cant test right now, but i need to know wether or not the 6v off the transistor will go into the controller and fry it, and if it does then i need to fiure out how to limit that.

so one would require specs about what it takes to fry a controller and if the 6v is anything that will hurt it.

it probably will come to nothing, but its nice to figure out anyways.

if you feel like risking your controller, you can try doing the diagram as is, i dont think it will be a problem.

no popn for the us for a loooong time. we only just got beatmania.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut... If they ever release for the PSP, those UMDs are region-free, so you can import and play. Easy as that.

ok i talked to one of my engineer friends and he said that it shouldnt be a problem with the controller, but you can experiment with different resistors if you are feeling lucky. no clue what you would start with.

2N3904 NPN Transistor from radio shack is your best bet for the transistor.

I guess......but I was really hoping I could play with an arcade-like home controller that I built or bought or something. It seems like a lot of fun. That guy on ebaumsworld....amazing.....

I'm going to start building a controller once I get all the money I'll need (about $150, guesstimate)... I may make a few for friends as well, if I do this right...

But playing Popn on a portable would suck. You wouldn't get to play on the huge ass controller, which is one of the biggest draws of Popn

And importing really isnt that hard, read the import sticky.

The ASC controller is bigger than an XBOX! How can it not draw you in?! E10.gif

Hey guys I'm trying to build a controller too but I need to know the wire maps for the ps2 controller... IE what does the yellow wire hook up to? the gray one? the brown one? etc.. If I could get an answer on that, that'd be awesome and I'd post as soon as i get that done.. I'm going to have all the buttons ready by Wed. to solder, and i allready got the ps2 controller, now i just need to know which wire to solder to which button and know what it stands for (ex. yellow= x button) and I'd be all set.. Thanks a bunch!

I think you guys got it wrong. If I recall correctly, the PS controller uses 9 pins - 7 are for the buttons and d-pad, the other 2 are for the analog sticks and the vibration motors. You actually solder onto the controller board, not cut the controller connector off. E1.gif

hmm... ok well if that's the case, where would i go to find that information, or a diagram of how that's supposed to work?
thanks for the info.. the only thing though, i looked around and found that some people were talking about how you have to solder the ground wire too and not just the wires to the buttons... otherwise it could break or something.. i dont know i glanced at it...

Truthfully this really isn't the best board for your questions. Explore some on the Bemanistyle forums and ask your question there. Random of Ransai and Desktop Arcade know alot about that so you should ask them too.

Yeah, I would. Even though I haven't unlocked everything yet, and don't know what most of the unlocks are, (and I don't want to know), I think it's worth getting.

The variety of songs is good, unlocking is much easier than the last 2 games (and kind of fun), and theres also 5X speed, which I find useful on certain songs.
