i wear bracers and collars up my right arm and wear black boots and crap.. while playing.. but the thing is you have to understand hot topic doesnt make you a goth or punk at all..
when i wear the leather and stuff im also wearing old navy underwear underneath  but also pants from various other storres and whta not...
you are goth if you wear make up too.. and well ddr+make up = smearing..
i am not considered anything because i fit into every category there is...
but i prefer to be based as a gamer/ punk because though i dont hav emuch of a caring heart alot of times, and i like belts on my arm 
you tell em the controls to a game i promise ill be kicking your buttocks within an hour... which is why i love ddr and itg, because it takes longer to have enough strength balance and control to be better...
so yeah hotpic doesnt make you goth, most hot topic poopy makes you a poser, if your truly badass then MAKE your own stuff.. like i do alot.
go ahead buy shoes though (those are hard to make)

Where in that does it say bad things happened to him? Where does he says he's tortured? That's your assumptions, not his opinions. Him saying "walk a mile in my shoes..." That pretty much sums up the "oh boohoo look at me"/"tortured soul"/"life is pain"/"write poetry in a corner while crying" thing. Okay, so I am being a little excessive there... why? Because I can be. Your choices don't scare me, if anything, they make me ALMOST feel bad for you. Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm all for "having fun", but not everybody's definition of fun is the same. If you want to spend all day at the arcade playing DDR, go ahead, you probably have nothing better to do on that day. If you want to listen to $hitty music, try to be a part of something that doesn't matter and be shunned from society, okay, fine. Call yourself "goth" and don't talk to anybody because chances are you will ruin there day just by breathing. Just saying you don't conform to society's standards doesn't mean you do useless things--quite the contrary. Let's look at some great nonconformers through history, in no particular order:

Your opinion of goth music I can't argue with; you're entitled to it. Trying to break out of the norm is quite possibly the most important thing one can possibly do. The only society I'm being shunned from is the one of people like you, and frankly I'm obviously not missing much. Oh, and I was agreeing with your definition of retarded, I was simply saying that being retarded at some things is good, just as excelling (the opposite) at some things is bad. You wouldn't say "I excel at stupidity." I think that covers anything.

What I don't understand is why people catagorize other people like they're spices in a spice rack. Anyways, I think that anyone who calls themself "Goth" is just trying to be something they're not. If other people call you "Goth" because you wear all black, let them, it's their opion, the freedom of speech is still in effect unfortunately. Most people that call themselves "Goths" don't know anything about the Gothic culture and therefore are blind idiots in my eyes.

You stole my insult and my points about being proud of who you are, but yay...Goths are not whiny, they are (in 95% of the cases(I use that term loosely)) quiet outcasts who are unaccepted because of the way they act, dress (which I still think is awesome style), and think. I'm (as I've said) a very hyperactive person, but can control it. If you talk to a "goth" and get to know them, they are nice people with interesting views on politics, life (I swear, if anyone says that those points are "life sucks" I'll pm them until they crack), and philosophical terms, they just need to be understood.

By him wanting us to see his point of view, he is signifying that something out of the ordinary has happened to him, otherwise it would be pointless to see things through his eyes because they would be exactly like everybody else's. I don't even have to assume, it's just fact: Whiny little goth kids always have had things either too hard or too easy to be a "normal person" and they want to stand out. He went through some kind of trouble, so yeah, I'm still right. STOP TRYING TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE CLEARLY WRONG. And who in the hell excells at stupidity anyway? Stupid people aren't good at being stupid, they suck at life (usually) and they don't need to live. Also, don't give me that noncomformist crap, the only reason people like the ones you mentioned had to try to change society was because society was f'd up and stupid to begin with. It is people like me who represent Jesus (I'm an athiest by the way), Martin Luther King jr. , einstien, etc. We need to rid the world of people like you. Sure, I know a certain group of religious people who set society back, but you are making them afraid to change even more. "goths" help no one. |

Let me get this straight: you're saying he must be claiming to have had hardships because if he wasn't tormented in some way, he wouldn't have a different point of view? Are you actually trying to say that everyone would have the exact same point of view if bad things hadn't happened to them? I'm not even going to bother arguing with that. ...and society is a shining beacon of happiness and joy now? have you looked around lately? Society is still f'ed up and stupid. Just because a person wasn't born with the extraordinary gifts needed to incite a great change like those people did, doesn't mean they're not allowed to try and go against the flow. I'm completely sure any of the people I named would be disgusted with you right now--honestly, you're claiming MLK would stand against people's right to be different? Give me a break. And wow, people being different scares those who don't want people to be different, who'd a thunk it? They can be afraid of change or not as they please. That doesn't make it right and it doesn't make them any more powerful. On the contrary, the more people are different, the less power conservatives will have, which is kind of the point.

Ya know, there are people that cannot help but take things way harder than you ever will, like, for example, breaking up with your boyfriend/girlfriend. I'm one of those people that is destroyed after a relationship. I mean, seriously destroyed. It's a bad thing, and happens to many, but I take it harder than everyone else, probably because I'm more human than most people will ever be.

Actually, my aunt and uncle are both ex-goths, more punk now that they've matured, and are quite successful. Uncle is a Sergeant in the Army, and Aunt is a great mother. That is pretty much what the Average American family is - a working father, and a stay-at-home mother. On those grounds, they seem successful.
If you are a goth, and do not succeed, its your own damn fault for spending all your time at school doodling pentagrams on your notebook. This is the "realistic" truth. You're being part of that "stereotypical society" you mentioned.

The way you said that with the colon-D smiley almost made me puke. You act as though flaming someone's very existance is just something you do every day. IMO, that is an act generally associated with assholes, who don't contribute to society. And who says I will never contribute? I annually participate in JOTA, which involves letting Boy Scouts send stuff on my Ham radio. Thats a pretty big contribution, especially when viewed as a whole - it is a world-wide event that people really like. As far as I am concerned, this is a MAJOR contribution, even if it is just applying to a few kids who just want a badge. Therefore, I am closer to winning at life than you.
As for standing up for myself, I'm not going to stop. Even if I am wrong (which I'm not), immoral, ect, I will still stand up for who I am and what I believe in.

Please tell me thats a joke. A realistic and stereotypical society, there is nothing REALISTIC about the way human society operates at all, its ridiculously petty, worries about things it doesnt have it, and puts restrictions on people who think differently than the masses. All in all society is a joke in itself.
Stereotypical society is however.
If society werent so screwed up, and useless I might add, you wouldnt even have outcasts, or people who tend to stray away from it. You have such groups of people because they realize that society is actually a cluster****. Everyday I lose more hope in humanity when they do some ridiculous crap. They actually cry about the word "Slut" in a harry potter book when there are far far more important things to worry about (not to mention that kids nowadays actually hear that type of language in the 3rd grade.)
Am I what you would consider a "Goth" as you put it? No, absolutely not, but I have enough sense to actually look around and see that society is not some shining ray of hope that we should all flock to, some of their morals and what they think is right is bound to conflict with a great deal of people including me, and there are more people that share views like mine than you obviously see.

Yes Hot Topic doesn't make you goth. Goth must be seared into one's soul. Goth is not sold in stores or taught in schools...one must become goth out of the mystic nature forces.
Saigo...you're hardcore. You're not a goth clearly, so you're a hardcore nothing. You've labeled yourself as someone who cannot be labeled. And that's hardcore.
I think the argument is that goth kids (whether they except themselves as goths or not) perpertuate a stereotype. They act as if they are dark, tortured mysterious souls which is why they wear all black and stay pale. Most people wouldn't associate that with a poppy dancing Japanese game.
But of course, no goth will ever admit to being goth. After all, nothing can truly make you goth. Hot topic is nothing. And goths are exactly the same as everyone else anyways. They just want to fit in. So goth is everything and nothing.
But I think it's a bunch of bullshit.
