I've had an ignition 2.0 for about two and a half months now, and I generally like it very much. I have but one occaisional issue:

Whenever I set the pad vertically so as to get it out of the way, the start button misfires like crazy the next time I try to play. I can't play DDR when the pad acts up like this, because it starts and restarts the game at random, beyond my control. I've read people suggest that you 'massage' the button until it works, and this has helped once or twice in the past- but sometimes the start button just won't cooperate. Again, this only happens after I've set the pad on its side for a while, and the problem lasts only briefly so I don't exactly want to blow my one warranty replacement on this.

I've had a RO Ignition 2.0 PS2/XB for at least a year now, and the only problem I have with it is with the left and right buttons. I can't really press on them repeatedly; after the first two or so repeated steps on those buttons, they stop working unless I press up or down. It's an evil pad for songs like Paranoia, which have you do those repeated left/right steps.

Any fixes for this?

I bought my 1st ignition 2.0 pad around Christmas '04. Bought it at Gamestop for 100. Worked fine. About 2 months into it I unzipped it and noticed some of the white lining had torn. Took it back and got a replaement (wow after 2 mos) Had the 2nd ever since and it just ripped again after bout 4 months. Over all the sensors are great. I dont have any problems. For the tear I just put paper over and duct tape it. Only problem with this pad is it moves around. But odnt all? 9/10

I have had my Ignition Pad 2.0 for about 5 months now. It has been supper good until now. I just bought ITG, and I am seeing that I am missing the Up arrow more than I would normally do. I thought it was just because I wasn't used to ITG's timing yet. But I watched closely, and it isn't registering my hits that well.

Left and right arrows miss fire a lot too. I stand off the pad to select options, and songs, then I get on so I don't miss fire.

Oh well, its now a good excuse to get a metal pad biggrin.gif

These dance mats are good for people who are learning to play, but you will get good sometime. Then these things start to fall apart. I have got about 5 of these in the past 6 months, and they all quit working. My brother and my friend also has one. My brother has got 4 and my friend has got 5. We all got them about the same time, and we took them back about the same time too. We really think that its because we are really good at the game and playing heavy mode all the time on them may be too much. But I have also had problems with them working for Xbox, it works good for PS2, but they have all been that way when I bought them. The back arrows never work unless you stomp the crap out of them. I also play at the acade a lot because my dance mat will break soon if I dance anymore on it. I talked to a guy that worked at the arcade (he can AAA every song on heavy, hes really good!) and he said that these things were crap, and I believe him. These were good dance mats while we did light and standard mode, but when we started on heavy mode, they started to break. So, they are good if you want to learn to play but when you get good, you might as well go buy a metal dance mat. I'm sick of going to get new dance mats like these, thats why I'm getting a metal dance mat soon.

I have a crazy idea here, so if anyone thinks it sounds good, let me know. To begin, I have an Ignition 2.0 that just broke down, after the warantee, and I got NO help from Redoctane. I am planning to use a great little $15 pad that works wonderfully to create a Frankenstien of pads. I plan to basically gut the 2.0 and place the cheap pad inside. This way I will have a functioning 2.0 and I will have the raised buttons as well. Any comments or ideas to make this work better?

Or, you could just open the cheap pad and make your own raised buttons by putting something there, then finidng a way to attach the pad to the foam insert.

Heh, all these premature death stories about redoctane pads. Glad my MyMyBox ignition has lasted 1 1/2 years now. E13.gif

My down arrow on my RO Ignition 2.0 has been "phantom stepping" for a while (I think that's the right term). Meaning it will all of a sudden start rapidly activating even when I don't step on it. It's really bad for performance because while it's phantom stepping, if I step on it when I actually need to use the down arrow, it won't work. BUT, when I take the foam insert out, it doesn't do this. What is the problem here and how can I fix it without having to play without the foam all the time?

My Ignition pad has performed beautifully, until a few weeks ago.

The down arrow no longer functions correctly. I unzipped it, and lo and behold, the white sheath separating the foam insert from the sensors was torn. And I mean TORN. Is there anything I can do for it beside just taping it back together again? Will it perform as well as it did before, as long as the taping job is carefully done? Any specific tapes suggested (duct, Scotch, electrical, painter’s)? Will it still work for my 9-footers?

I’ve had this thing since Christmas, and it’s brought me from 2-footers to 9-footers. It’s seen much use from me, but also from friends at weekly parties and such. I’m guessing that since the tears in the white sheath seem to be in a straight line, that it’s probably from bending during transportation. Is this likely the case?

Sadly, general use with the foam will rip and tear the insides of ignitions apart. E1.gif I was fortunate not to spend $100 per pad to find that out, a friend taught me a modification and showed me that "RO ripoff" ignitions that you can get on EBay etc work just as well.

I've had my current pair since Christmas eve, modified, they are still going strong. I hardly play now, but when I was, there were a lot of 9s and friends to try and beat them up E10.gif.

The cable seems messed up on my Ignition 2.0 I've had since mid 2002. Here's the email I just sent to redoctane:

Quote:
Hi, I'm having a strange problem with my Ignition 2.0 pad and was hoping I could get some help.
I've never had any problems with it, but after finishing a Konamix song on my PS2 both my PS1 and PS2 now do not respond to input from my pad.
Now the lights on the pad still flash when pressed, so there is a connection. But neither console on the Player 1 or Player 2 porst respond to the pad (the consoles do respond to other input devices such as regular PS1 controllers). It's as if the pad is no longer plugged in.

I have noticed that as I use the pad more some of the colored wires underneath the pad's cable are exposed now (about an inch or so now). Could this explain something?

I'm very baffled and hope I don't have to spend another $100 on a new pad! Is there anything I can do?

Thank you!

I forgot to mention that since this January I use a Red Octane slip cover and (as the ad suggests) I play with sneakers. The pad itself seems fine, but the cable's condition is worrying me. It has gotten caught under the pad sometimes while playing.

I have had flawless results from the pad before, however.

DO NOT GET THE BNS DX XTREME PAD!!!

Recent manufacturing changes to this pad has significantly reduced the quality of their pads. A few months ago, BNS changed how the small inserts in their pad are attached to the pad. They are stuck to the pad by a layer of sticky glue, that when played on for a period of time, heat up and lose their adhesion abilities. These inserts will move significantly in a period of only A FEW HOURS of play.

Myself and dozens of others on this board have had this problem. If you check the old soft pad thread, you will read dozens of stories near the end of the thread from people who bought this pad and were unsatisfied due to this problem.

DO NOT GET THIS PAD! YOU WILL ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM!

really? i heard about this too last year, but then i think they changed back to their old manufacturer or something.. i recently purchased a BNS DX pad, it feels more sturdy and harder than the RO Ignition 2.0/3.0. Oh by the way, don't get the 3.0 from RO, apparently the main difference in 2.0 to 3.0 is a looser outerpad. Meaning, your sensors are going to slip around during gameplay, causing higher possibility for sensor panel damage in the near future. RO 2.0's are definitely better than 3.0.

And to answer Cutriss's question on the first page of this thread:

Cutriss wrote:
The BNS DX Ignition is basically the same thing as this pad, isn't it?

I'm gonna toss that in here.

no I've had both pads now, and I notice the inner foam inserts are two totally different qualities. The DX pad is a dense hard foam giving more of an arcade feeling, as the Ignition pads are just soft foam inserts, making it feel like a thick padded MadCatz or something...

Well I don't know, overall, both products are pretty good. Red Octane lasted me about 2 months before the left arrow gave out and sticky button syndrom popped in. But I've had the BNS DX pad for a month n half, it words great, no problems at all. Hopefully it'll last me another 4-5 months ^^.

OK.... had my ignition since January now and havent had a single problem with it.... until now. My right arrow slowly died today, first started missing a little bit, started working half the time, then just registered maybe 1 out of 30 hits. in addition, i think my up arrow was maybe a tad unresponsive as well, but i'm not sure about that. could have just been some bad steps from me but i'm suspicious. So i'm currently performing surgery. if anyone has any suggestions, please help....

First of all, the white bottom that lies right above the foam had 2 big rips. one below the up arrow and the other above the down arrow. some of the sensor layer right above was ripped as well, but not all so the sensors kept registering. no problem, i used some duct tape and patched the rips off. next, i cut the edges of the bottom white layer as well as the bottom sensor layer with a razor and pulled them back to see if i could find out what was wrong with my right arrow. apart from the rip on the down arrow sensor (which hasnt been a problem) everything seemed fine with the sensor material. a little bunched up foam was the only poor looking thing. I tested each sensor manually by touching the two layers through the foam, and all work well except for the right which AT FIRST didnt regesiter.... then decided to start registering occasionally, and a bunch of taps later, it seems to work perfectly fine now. apart from fixing some bunched up foam, is there anything else i should do/check before taping the pad up to make sure the right stays working? i still dont know why it stopped in the first place, it seems perfectly fine now with the pad cut open.... i really hope it doesnt crap out after i tape everything back up.

My mom bought a 3.0 for my birthday while at Otakon a few weeks ago, where the RO booth had an $80 special. How do I know this? I ran into her in the Dealer's Room, she had one of those really big bags Tokyopop was handing out, and she asked me for directions to the "place with the dance pads."

So was the 3.0 worth the $80?
