I want to host a DDR party at my house and invite friends from work.
Need some ideas how to make the party interesting for everyone, even for people who claim they have "two left feet" or no rythm.

Contest? Prizes? Random drawing to dance a specific song?

Please share your ideas or experiences if you had a party like that.

Use your head. A DDR party won't work if you're inviting people who aren't interested.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

Threaten death to those who cant pass a certain song by the end of the party!

Fun for some...

Wow... something someone hasn't already discussed. This is a pretty cool idea already. Good thread idea E13.gif

I haven't had a DDR party, but the thought of it to introduce to other people is a great idea.

To start people off who haven't done DDR try this:

Make them sit down or stand and then play some of the DDR music (with no tv on or anything.. just music). Ask them to get intune with the beat and do whatever they want with their body, as long as their moving to the beat.

Then, after you feel that they have fully gotten into the song, ask them to play a beginner song. Maybe they'll do better now because you showed them how to use the beat in accordance with the dancing later on.

As for prizes...? Ummm... i'm not too sure about that one. Yeah, i guess random drawings to play a song, then whoever passes wins a prize?.... good luck with this! E1.gif

Maybe they should learn what they're supposed to do first, then start practicing the buddhism tuning stuff
Make sure to bring lots of caffeine to the party. LOTS! *twitchtwitch*

I'm about to throw a DDR party of my own. I'd say a big thing would be food. If you can cook good food or order a pizza, that will get people in the mood for a dancing party. Its kinda wierd for people new to the game to just jump on, but if you make it feel like a regular get-together, you'll make them feel MUCH more comfortable about looking like an idiot jumping around.

Hope that helped a little.

Anyway, try to do something that will make people feel comfortable to play. Maybe try to do something funny to do while playing, such as holding hands or something. Get them interested in playing.

Like the other people said: Lots of fresh water and food. Everyone needs to refill their bodies eventually.

Do something special for the new people. If you have an extra pad, try to teach them or something.

Other than that, have fun!

FOOD AND WATER

People will get tired and dehydrated. The soda stuff is average, but I think guests would appreciated more if you displayed some gatorade or propel. Light snacks would be good, like popcorn or donuts, but try to keep the eating to a minimum cuz its not good for you to dance and eat.

Lets see....other tips

*Have lots of seats avaible around the tv, couches work best.
*I have a pool table in the basement near the tv, it works out pretty fine if you other activities that the guests or you don't know how to play . E1.gif
*If you're old enough, or if no one is looking E13.gif , wine helps loosen people up, don't drink too much though. E1.gif
*Play in a well lit area.

As for gameplay, if you're pretty good, try not to show off too much skill as that will scare the beginners away. Play a few songs you can goof off on and try to be inviting as well as encouraging. For instance, play an easy song and invite a friend to play that same song. Within an hour or 30 minutes of playing, you can then open them up to your 1337 skills.

Like someone else said, goof off a bit before you play. Sit around the tv, watch something funny, have a nice conversation, but make sure that wouldn't be the party itself. Take leadership and bust out the pads! Anyways, thats all I have for now. If you've hosted some good parties, you can probably host a nice DDR party.
