In an interview with Jeff Yapp of MTV Games, Next Generation has revealed that MTV plans to enter the music game market in a big way, and claims that nobody has done a good job of capitalizing on the opportunity yet. Does MTV have what it takes to compete and innovate in this market? _________________

Jeff Yapp wrote: | We've very excited about the music space, which we don't think has ever been really done well. | The consumers of said market would tend to disagree...and I'm sure that a large number of them are probably laughing their asses off right now at the prospect of MTV thinking they can do a better job. This is kinda like Tiger Electronics claiming that the Gizmondo can be a Game Boy killer.
They're welcome to try, but geez. At least lose the ego. _________________

maybe those people who just sit at home all day and watch MTV decided they wanna lose a couple hundred pounds. They sure have followers, so they have a chance.
However, they would need to make easier stepcharts, because (probably) most of the people who watch MTV probably have never played the game before. Then if it becomes popular, they can come out with a newer mix for the experts. Thats sorta what happened with DDR right? (i wasnt playing in the times of the first mix, or 7th mix actually) _________________

It's seriously not hard to make a music game. And they have the advertising mediums necessary to make it big no matter how good the game actually is. _________________

What about MTV Music Generator... 1...2 and 3... I don't recall those "games" turning any heads. heh. Since when was MTV about music anymore anyway?
Didn't MTV have some type of drumming arcade game a couple years ago? My memory is fuzzy but I seem to recall seeing something on a Vegas trip... _________________

TRLmania by MTV Studios!
Control over 100 stars as they appear on TRL! Choose people to come in from the disgusting Manhattan streets!
Then use the interactive mic (sold seperately) to cuss out n00bs stars!
Online play lets you kick other stars' asses!
Coming soon for PS2 and NES!
Or something. _________________

It's gonna be like Amplitude, except even crappier (the music in Amplitude wasn't good, which is what I'm getting at; the game itself was fun). It's all gonna be c-rap and pop garbage.
I would laugh if they have Britney Spears on it, especially the one going in Ex2 (you know they will). Then I would get it just to hit it over and over again, just beacause it keeps asking for it. _________________

MTV Drumscape. One of the arcades in my area (which has now closed) had this machine. It had no demo showing how to play, so I didn't know what to expect. I never played it. |

I personally didn't like it. You listen to music and play artificial drums. You don't follow notes like in the music games we are used to .... it's basically just a chance to bang on some drums to some different kinds of music. |

when they show music videos on TV, they should also have steps alongside so people can "shadow" while they listen to their fav. music and also burn calories......
of course steps should be easy to standard difficulty,,,,,heavy steps tend to be hard to shadow cuz you dont know if u are doing them right or not hehe;) |

So how come every time I flip through it, I'm looking at some Inferno show or Kept or the Jessica Simpson show or even worse Ashlee Simpson.. and jeez from what I remember, on TRL you were lucky to see half a music video when they played one on there (i haven't watched in years though but I doubt it's changed).
Guess I'm just a jaded old geezer who remembers when MTV had music-oriented programming like Alternative Nation and Headbangers Ball, and when they played the November Rain video, seemingly in its enterity, like 20 times a day. A day when the non-"music" shows were original and entertaining (remote control, heck even beavis and butthead).
And, wasn't MTV2 supposed to be a 24/7 music video channel when it first launched? I could swear I saw re-runs of MTV's non-music programming on there the other day (the show jackass)
Hooray for the internet and plenty of alternative options for music lovers _________________

Not only is the title about music, but if you're interested they have:
~TRL available which talks about the current music popularity among teens and all sorts of variety of ages
~MTV2 which is meant for watching new videos of new bands with upcoming music
~"The Leak" "Spanking New" and all other sorts of names indicated that there is music that they are about to present to you, whether it be new or old.
~Direct Effects is more of a rap/hip-hop/etc music.. countdown for people who are into that genre.
I could keep going forever, but you get my point. By saying that MTV isn't about music anymore would be incorrect. You could change to that channel and you'll see "The Diary of..." which talks about the musicians life (kinda) so far, plus you'll see numerous advertisements for CDs nd etc...
$nerd; |
You COMPLETELY missed skie's point entirely.
Anyways, they're going to have a much easier time getting the mainstream songs which the general bemani scene seems to loathe with a passion. Will they put it to good use?
Only one way to find out; wait. _________________

I remember those days, maybe they weren't making enough money and had to make MTV anything but a music station. |

MTV can't just play music videos because that's not interactive. There's nothing to it. Sure it's not ALL Music, but it's more about music than any other TV station. _________________

I can't imagine MTV doing this sort of thing right!! Konami is the only company that has made music games that are challenging and innovative. I can't even think of ONE company that has done anything CLOSE to what konami has done for this genre(without copying what they have done).
Everybody else seem to look at music games in a gimmicky, time wasting kind of way. I want technically sophisticated, artistic, and beautiful music games. Not some stupid eye toy add-on.
If you ask me, everybody seems to miss the point when it comes to music games, because they are so busy trying to replicate somebody else's work that they seem to put very little time; if any into making an original concept.
Chances of doing well = not likely
