Yeah, but most of the time, the easiest way to pick out who has or hasn't accomplished a feat on a song is by seeing if they have a picture, or better yet, a video. Most players who are that good tend to take cameras and such with them, knowing it's good to back up their accomplishments. Now, if you're like me, and get TDGs (Triple-Digit Greats) on songs, then a camera would just be one more things to lose. E13.gif

uh...I'm not sure if you guys are with me or against me but...

What I was trying to say was actually sumarized in Julies post.
I miss the days when everyone was nice.

Back when I first started I had help from so many people who were so much better than me. Now its like standard players people get cocky around light players(at least thats how the locals around here have been lately).

I miss those days....

Today it's all about rank at this point

Beginner(1-2 Footer)
Light(3-4 Footer)
Standard (5-7 Footer)
Heavy (8-9 Footer)
Mid-Heavy(9-10 Footer)<---This would be me.
Oni (10 Footer and beyond)

I just wrote that as an example, similer to Xaxu's depiction of it.
Still, the day where passing Paranoia as a passing out of newbiehood are LONG gone. Speaking of which what is the song to pass out of newbiehood today?

Depending upon whom you ask, it could be PSMO 2x Sudden Shuffle Flat Reverse. Personally, I'd say a 5-footer makes you a non-newb.

I never said I agreed with the old status quo. A 5-footer is sufficient, in my opinion, which can vary from that of others. E13.gif

Hey guys, (and gals) I'm new to the forums, but I'm not that new to DDR. I remember when a first started playing, I was too embarrassed to go to the arcade to play because people had made fun of me before. So I'm glad that you all, being more advanced players from what I can tell, arn't complete assholes! Thank you for making the DDR society better!

DDR Society. I like the sound of that; cultish kinda. Who gets the grandmaster position? I'd say Julie, but she seems entirely to sensible and nice to head a cult.

Whoa, I leave for eight days on vacation, come back, check up on e-mail notifications, and find this! You guys are too nice to me! riiight.gif

I don't like that ranking system, or any sort of hiearchy for that matter. I mean, sure, you can imply what you want, but ultimately, we're all a bunch of people loving the same game, no matter what level we're at.

Besides, there is a BIG difference between barely clearing a 9 with a C or a D, consistently passing a 9 with a B, Aing a 9, AAing a 9, and SDGing a 9. That's a big flaw in that system - I would be considered a Mid-Heavy player, but for the sake of comparison, I could say that in a PA match, I could beat someone who could clear 9's with A's, and a person who could SDG half the game could take me on and beat me just as easily.

So yeah, just to make this bump not unnecessary, just be nice around here. It's a bit more friendlier since I got back, but we can make it better! biggrin.gif

I find it amusing that everyone is jumping on the "Agree with Julie Q" bandwagon.

For all the complaining about how we should be nice to newbs, I sure don't see a lot being done about it.

Here's the reason I'm mean to newbs, or anyone else for that matter:

When you act stupid, expect to be treated as such. Where's the motivation for a newb to start spell-checking and using correct grammar if no one gets on their case about it? Seriously, without the people who laugh at others for spelin like dis, evry1 wood spel like dis.

Granted, it's not too nice to blatantly attack a newbie without proper justification. Generally, the only reason newbies are flamed more often is because they tend to not know or care about the rules, so we laugh at them. If Julie Q didn't read or care about the rules and couldn't spell, I'd laugh at her too.

EDIT: Just noticed that I spelled "complaining" wrong. Oh, the irony.

To: [RiVAL] Julie Q

Your right(seriously no one is jumping on bandwagons agreeing with you) the list I made was a little biased and too broad for the sort of player some people can be.

P.S: Welcome back! Off topic though I wonder when Ace Of Hearts is coming back from his vacation? E19.gif

Lucky for me, TheKatsurame, I actually do more-or-less spell correctly. E13.gif

I didn't make that post because I wanted to create world peace or something at DDRFreak. I think that if people have blatant ignorance for the rules, they should be dealt with accordingly (that's why we have mods), but I don't think every existing member should take it upon themselves, create a mobocracy of flaming, and treat newbies with complete and total disrespect. Two wrongs don't make a right.

When people are rude to me and fuck with me on this site, I don't take it lightly. I've been mean to people on this site before who I've believed "deserved it", but for me, in order for someone to get the e-shit kicked out of them online, it has to transcend something like intentional spelling and grammar errors (although I admit, I cringe at those, too). Honestly though, why waste the precious, costly bandwidth on this site in order publicly humiliate someone in a overzealous, cruel manner? It makes no sense to me.

What I'm most concerned about, and what I was concerned about when I made that initial post, was the level of respect given to people who haven't fully learned the ropes yet, but with polite guidance and redirection, try hard not to commit a specific grievance more than once. Just because people have a light blue or a yellow foot doesn't mean they're a completely and totally incapable of understanding the rules of this site, and likewise, people with pink feet aren't necessarily any better than their less experience DDR Freak counterparts in their following of the rules. In fact, off the top of my head, I can think of a handful of people I absolutely and totally dislike on this board and would want to flame in a heartbeat if they posted another useless topic with disregard for the rules, just because those people treat others with disdain that's uncalled for. Most of them aren't newbies, but more experienced players who screw around on the boards just because they think they earned the right to do so because they can whoop-dee-doo, pass a 10 footer or something.

Elitist attitudes of some on this board bother me, and some think they're above people who ask relevant but simple questions or post simple topics. People who start topics like "How to mess up a newbie" among many other memorable gems... C'mon, what? That kind of crap has no place on a DDR board and deserves to be locked.

This game is dead as a doornail for a lot of people, but people who they think they have the right to hurt others who were late bloomers but want to improve are doing their part in ruining the reputation of this site, and perhaps potentially DDR and/or successors' ability in getting the future capital and fanbase that this genre needs to thrive in the long run.
