Play doubles, once you learn to read 8 arrows at once then reading 4 will become easy.

1: play songs that you can barely do.
2: play non-stop mode to get your stamina up.
3: play at least an hour-per-day.
4: learn all the techniques (crossovers, spins, gallops, etc) (use edit mode for this. thats why it is there.)
5:dont doubt yourself. if you think really hard in you mind that you can AAA a song, and you have your mind set to that, chances are you will be able to do it. (to a certain extent)

thats how i got where i am. im not all that great but doing all that really helped (and helps) me.

EDIT:

i beg to differ. doubles mode is nearly impossible without having knowledge on how to read 4 arrows. i would say you should be able to A most 8-9 footers before attempting doubles.
