I am finally getting DDR (Flash Flash Revolution got me hooked to this). I have a major decision to make though..I can either get DDR Extreme for PS2, or DDR Ultramix for Xbox. (Ultramix 2 if I can find it, but it seems to be very rare). I'm not sure how many songs each version has but I'm guessing Extreme has many more songs. My question is this, does the Xbox Live portion of Ultramix version make it worth buying? My friend is also getting Xbox/Xbox Live soon and is trying to persuade me into getting Ultramix but I might find it simply doesn't have enough content in comparison to Extreme.
As far as a pad goes, I am getting the bundled pad for now. I want to play the game for a bit before deciding on which (if any) hard pad I want. |

It depends on which songs you like.
Go to the main page and go to the Songlists & Codes and look up the PSX and XBOX mixes and look at the songs, and see which one suits you the best.
EDIT: Make sure you slip in a wooden board into that puppy, it works a lot better. That's what I didn't do and the pad lasted a whopping 4 months..@_@ _________________

Thanks for the info. I like all kinds of music (J-pop, rock, hip-hop, dance, classical..ect) but I don't know band names very well so that probably wont do me much good. Songs aside, which version would you recommend?
I probably will put some particle board in there once I have the chance to cut some to the proper size.
Edit: Some are saying Max 2 is better than Extreme..so now I'm even more confused. |

Ignore what kind of "bands" there are in DDR. DDR is 85% non-mainstream, so you'll acquire a musical taste for lots of genres.
EXTREME is the easiest of the three current US PS2 mixes, but I suggest you get MAX2. Better songlist and has challenge that EXTREME is lacking. |

I would prefer to buy the more difficult version. Looks like I'm going to go with Max 2...everyone seems to say nothing but good things about it. I will probably import DDEX sooner or later. Thanks for the help. |

yes, IMPORT it, but use flip-top, NOT Magic Slide, it killed my PS2 in less than 24 hours. _________________

Forget both of those options you mentioned. Get either Max or Max2 for the PS2. |

Screw all of the options listed. Get both MAX and MAX2 and probably Extreme2 when it comes out IF its any good. As far as Extreme is concerned I don't think is was the songlist that killed it, but the lousy interface and the lack of difficult songs. Not to mention bad unlocks.(Make it better and I'm for real?)

I find EXTREME to be worthwhile to get for its Oni remixes, even if they are on a shoddy mix. |

I didn't say ALL. CSFINSM,Maximizer,Frozen Ray,A,V,Scorching Moon, 321 Stars,TLOM and Trip Machine Survivor were the only good unlocks. The rest were crap. |

I thought the Xbox live juck was pretty cool, but you can just get Stepmania Online for that. Xbox is evil because it ruined DDR, so get Max 2 or below, because Extreme US ruined everything too. |

I probably shouldn't have started on that. It's for the other 50 topics in the Console forums. |

GTFO
The most fun I've had with any DDR game ever was UM2. Ever. _________________

I suppose this doesn't apply to new DDR players, but the Xbox suffers from...issues...with some pads, namely redoctane's.
I'd say get extreme, for its difficulty, its superior menu layout, and its wealth of useless extra features to keep a newbie entertained. |
