I know there's some scoring glitches in the game, but you'd think they'd get this right.

That's happened to me before; you didn't get the star because of the mines you hit. I don't know exactly how it's determined, but hitting mines sometimes causes you to receive the lower letter grade when it's close like that.

Hitting mines enlarges the maximum number of dance points achievable. It doesn't subtract from nor add to your dance points achieved, but it widens the possible amount beyond 100%, thus the 'glitch' you experienced.

I think... That's what I heard, something to that effect.

Isn't a star 96.25%+?

Yes. Hitting mines and missing holds increases the possible dance points by five points each FOR GRADING ONLY. It displays your score correctly, but gives you a grade based on an improperly calculated score. Thus the bug is only visible if you're near a grading threshold.

I have no idea. we didn't question it. I suppose maybe it has something to do with the hands? each simultaneous arrow has a multiplying effect on the amount of dance points. I assume it has something to do with that (much in the same way that you can full combo a song and somehow have a missed hand).

Actually, people looked into scoring for simultaneous arrows. They're not actually worth extra points, despite previous statements by Foy to the contrary. At least not for scoring... so perhaps grading counts them multiple? I'm not sure, though, because we'd see way more grading discrepancies that way.

And again, the "fc and no dropped hold with missed hand" phenomenon is, so far as we can tell, when you let go of a hold while hitting a hand, but catch it again before the hold itself drops. You don't get credit for hands unless the other sensor is registering at the time, or something.

well the point is he full comboed the song with missed hands and got a star with under 96%, so it obviously has something to do with hands, and may only really have any sort of "grade boosting effect" on songs with many hands (such as bend your mind and dawn).
