Well, I don't know how hard it's supposed to be. Up equals up, down equals down etc... I guess when you start going heavy, you have to sort of train yourself to read between the arrows more than the actual arrows themselves. That way, you can anticipate the next one. _________________

I don't really know. I do remember when I first started to play, I couldn't get my steps in sync with the beat though. But somehow I managed to get it. Hmm... maybe practice does help. |

My favourite song on any version of DDR is PinkRose, so naturally, that was the first song that I ever played in Heavy. I'm not sure what happened that night, but it sure was strange. Me and my friends were having a DDR party, and it was after 9 hours of game time that I think I started halucinating. I decided to put it on Heavy, and my friends warned me, but I didn't care. I managed to get a B on it, for the first song that I ever did in Heavy. But the next day, I tried to do the same exact thing. I mean hey, I did it once, right? But I couldn't even get past the beggining. Maybe it was just luck that I was hitting the notes...maybe I wasn't even hitting them at all, and just hitting random arrows and managed to make it..
Why did it happen? How idid it happen? Noooobody knows.
Now, whenever I get a B on PinkRose in heavy, it brings back odd memories...o.O
So, I guess that's an example of when these things just 'click'. o.O or something like that. |

For me, the arrows clicked because of experience. Im currently on standard and I can do many songs stemming from me over playing them on light mode (namely, breakdown). _________________

Like, i was thinking about trying DDR so i was at the mall one day watching people play and all of a sudden it just clicked on how to read the arrows and i could read the arrows on heavy. Of course it took about a week of playing every day to get my feet where they needed to go. so my did this happen to anyone else? |
Well, there's an explination for the songs and arrows to all of a sudden "click":
Remember back when you began to play DDR. You were probably excited and giddy as a fourth grade school grade. Anywho, when you first started (i assume) you weren't an expert and you probably had trouble reading the arrows. You said to yourself "How can i read arrows that are soo damn fast? I'll never be able to make it to heavy! Those people that can do that difficulty are probably crazy" (Or something to that extent).
Well, as you continued playing DDR, your mind was doing something: The arrows were permanently being stimulated in your mind. That's right . Basically, after playing/practicing DDR for just a certain amount of time, you didn't have to think about how to hit the arrows. You knew immediatly that if an arrow was scrolling on the far left side of the screen that it was a left arrow, and so on.... So, after a longer period of time, eventually, ever arrow was so permanently stimulated in your head, that you didn't have to even have to read the arrows anymore. It was more of a "perceptive" view on the arrows (looking without reading), rather than a "learning" view (reading without just simply looking).
So, if you catch my drift, then you'll understand 100% why your mind just all of a sudden "clicks" and doesn't have to really think about the arrows anymore.
Just some advice
***Lastly, if you still don't believe what i'm saying, try (somehow) to substitute arrows for round circles. If you can do a song and still pass it with circles being your "arrows", then you know that my theory is correct.*** _________________

i totally agree with what you are saying there and most of the rest of what you said. But the thing about experience being the reason the arrows clicked, i dont agree with that. i had never played ddr when i suddenly could read the arrows. it was wierd i was just standing there and it was like i got hit in the head with a wrecking ball or something and suddenly i could read the arrows.
dancefreak8 wrote: | My friends are like "How do you do that? It looks impossible." I'm like "I have no idea." |
same here, whenever my parents or friends ask me how i read so fast (especially when they see me play SM) my only response is just "i dunno" cause i cant really explain how to read them. i just say that once you get used to it you can read arrows faster than you can read words. _________________
