This news will certainly get a lot of the dancing game pundits back to their arguments. Konami of Japan has officially filed suit against Roxor Games, makers of In The Groove on the grounds of trademark and patent infringement. They are seeking financial damages and an injunction against product distribution. _________________

If I'm wrong, then yes, Konami filed suit first in Japan, and then Andamiro filed an identical suit in Korea. _________________

Nice of them to wait until a couple days before it is supposed to ship, on a game that everyone has known was coming for awhile...

I am a little concerned about the fact that ITG cabinets are basically modified DDR cabinets until the new one they made with ITG2.
Not that anything else the arcade vendors have done to the machines ( bringing Japanese machines to the US, Megamix, etc. ) haven't been legally questionable. They just haven't generated much interest from Konami. |

I thought that ITG made some arcade cabinates to go with it. Or was that the un-released ITG2?
I'm not too sure which way this will go. Outcomes:
a) Konami wins, and ITG is stopped. Yet now they might have to deal
with the illeagle cabinets in the U.S.
b) Roxor will win, and ITG will eventually replace DDR (which may not be
a bad thing. )
Either way, ITG will still get released in some form or fashion. I hope. |

konami=bullshit now..
konami doesnt give 2 sh1ts about the north american market. now we get a game aimed at us specifically, and we get poopy on.
if konami had another mix announced, ready to go for us. i'd understand.
but they dont, and they dont care.
screw konami, im done with them officially. _________________

Even though there is a reasonable explanation for why Konami is taking this action, they still waited too long just so they could destroy ITG.
I am kinda disappointed in Konami; I finally was easying up to ITG and now they have to screw it all up. They better be coming out with a new arcade mix if they have the nerve to do this.

Well we should have saw this coming. If Konami really isn't going to make DDR for the arcades anymore than they don't care what Roxor Games do casue they're not lossing any money but since they are deep in the home market now and making a nice profit than they can't have this game release.
But then again since ITG2 is coming to the arcades than the home verison of ITG could pull alot more DDR heads and newcomers away. I don't see the big deal though cause DDR has its fans so if a new DDR comes out you know we're going to buy it. To me (I may be wrong) it like if Sega tring to sue Namco over the 3D fighter market. Each has its fans and they both make lots of money. Comp is always good for business (us what you're selling sucks). _________________

ITG caught on because DDR fans are just sick of playing nothing but old japanese songs re-released for US audiences.
I'm sick of Japanese leftovers, Konami. Especially when you stopped serving dinner 2 years ago! |

What a bunch of whiny babies.
They make a better product, get a strong popularity going and in general make better decisions than Konami because ITG actually cares about the players and then Konami has to piss on everybody about it.
Konami really does not care about North America. At all. |

It was just a matter of time before his happend....
Konami could care less about the arcade stuff...but DDR has made much more money on PS2 and xbox then it has in the Acades. And ITG and Roxor are trying to that that away.
They are just trying to stop ITG for PS2... _________________

Maybe we can find the actual court filings soon, but according to the Konami press release linked to in the first post:
Quote: | The present lawsuit complains that Roxor Game's refitting of DDR arcade games has been done in an infringing and unfair way. |
From the sound of that line, it seems like Konami may only be targetting the arcade version, rather than the console one. Little better than slightly informed speculation at this point, but if Konami spelled that out in the release, I'm at least optimistic that this won't affect the PS2 launch this month. |
