i am very pi$$ed with redoctane right now. i got one of these in march and it broke in three days. isend it back and it takes a month and a half to get it back. i just recieved my replacement and guess what...IT was broken. after closer inspection i found that a solder point was broken in the left pad and a screw was sticking up through the wood, into the circuit board, which pushed into the metal contact, which put a dent, that is visible form above, into the poly carbonate. Now THAT is poor quality control!

and they wont upgrade it to an afterburner. GRRRRRRRRRRR.

The redoctane pad is really bad for a hardcore ddrer because the arrows crack...that's the only big problem with the pad. I don't think Redoctane has learned their lesson, because they are still going to use polycarbonate plastic for the afterburner. If ITG is as hard as everyone has been talking about, the afterburner is going to fair horribly against other dance pads out there.

From what I understand, older versions of the RO Metal Pad don't need the sheet metal mod. They stopped using foil contacts and switched over to a sheet metal contact system.

Apparently the Afterburner won't need the mod either, as they already use sheet metal contacts

didn't hear about the sheet metal contacts...does the new contact system make the dance pad a lot noisier(sp?)?

No idea really... I don't own a RO pad (until my Afterburner arrives) so I'm just going off what other people have said here.

Somewhere way back in the Metal Pad Discussion Part 2 thread (around page 70 or so I think) people talk about the newer RO pads using sheet metal instead of foil contacts. Saying how they opened them up to do the sheet metal mod and arrows already had sheet metal underneath them.

I called Red Octane customer service to confirm this and they told me that the newer model metal pads and the Afterburner both use sheet metal instead of foil to increase durability.

So if anyone does decide to buy a RO they wont have to worry about doing the sheet metal mod, it wont be necessary

I might end up getting two afterburners for my club that I'm making..just waiting for reviews in the other thread.

just in case you didnt kno, CF's also use polycarbonates. if u go to the web site it says somthing like "uses the finest polycarbonates..."

and btw lexan is a polycarbonate

hey I need to know more about the afterburner... is it worth the money or will it crack???? Also i have never had a metal pad and know NOTHING about modding or repairing.... lol so do I buy this or wait till christmas and get CF???

I got a RO metal pad about 2 years ago. It broke in a few weeks (the left arrow died) but they sent me a replacement that has worked for over a year, except for when the down arrow cracked once. Other than that i haven't had any problems with it. I think its a good pad.

i have a question. When a wire de-solders, do i solder it to the arrow itself or to that circuit board thingy. When i solder it to the cirucit board (whatever its called) the arrow just keeps going rapidly by itself

IMHO i think RO is over rated. can't really speak for the metal pads cause i'm too poor to own one YET! but just in general they don't back their pads up.

i suggest going with a metal pad through cobaltflux or buynshop
buynshop got nice pads for good prices and support has been good (at least for me), but cobalts seem to have a nicer warrenty but pads in general are more costly. depends on what your needs are.

Could someone provide a link that would show the best way to replace a busted RO control box for this metal pad?

I know it's the control box, because both pads work with my other one. I don't know if there is a way to wire up an old controller, an old soft pad, or if another company sells the same control box. Any help is greatly appreciated!
