Thanks, those vids are awesome and give me a few new ideas...
Just wondering, is anyone here really good at doing the robot? Any tips or beginner vids on it would be greatly appreciated... Thanks everyone!
EDIT: Holy shit that butterfly video is awesome! _________________

Actually, two of my last couples routines have been on Single. Both worked extremely well. (Last one won SVGL3 w/ me & Tequila) _________________

ive been botting on and off for the last 3 years or so.
the best advice i can give is this:
1) character: sad robots, mad robots, evil robots, happy robots. make up a robot, and show the character through your movements and facial expressions.
2) isolation. moving parts of your body without moving other parts. move your forearm without moving your upper arm, for example. move your wrist/hand without moving your arm, etc.
3) precision in movements. if you bounce your arm up, and then the next movement you do is moving your arm down...WHY DID YOU MOVE YOUR ARM UP??? robots dont make movements for the hell of moving like stupid humans do. they have a goal, and they move accordingly to acheive that goal, and that is what you must do while botting.
4) the dime-stop and the hyrdrolic bounce. these are to different styles of stopping in between movements of robotting. dime-stopping, being pretty self explainitory, is stopping with as little muscle contraction as possible (or making it *seem* like there was little to a beholder of your illusion). this style is very clean and often chains movements together quickly. the second style is hydrolic bounce stops. when you stop, do it HARD (usually with a bop), and have your movement make your limb or body bounce when it stops. one bounce, two bounces, maybe 3, but make it hard and consistant throughout your stops.
5) the dance. remember that botting isnt just pretending you're a robot, its a DANCE, one of (if not THE) oldest dances in funk styles. keep it funky. _________________

kai do you have any videos of you botting? I'll try and do a google search, thanks for those tips, it seems like the only problem I have is figuring out exactly how to move...
EDIT: Err, this may be a dumb question but... Anyone in the Houston area, that could maybe, err, help me a bit? _________________

Ahahaha, good good times. To think, we only needed 45 minutes to conceive/rehearse that. =P _________________

i do have videos of myself botting (amongst other styles, not really specifically botting), however, videos of people randomly botting as a dance will be of little help to you.
viewing clips of people doing THEIR bot usually lead to mimicing, not understanding, on the viewers part.
i know 2 or 3 people in texas (one in houstin i believe) that could help you out, but they wont help unless you're a dedicated learner of the arts, not just some kid that wants to learn to bot so they can look cool on the pads.
i think robert sheilds' (OG botter) antique store is in texas somewhere, if i recall correctly.
i'll make a clip tonite showing you some stuff that im talking about. _________________

No need, Mel.
Man, it's great how much dialogue can add to a routine.
Here's a basic botting lesson, btw - it's a tutorial, so it should be safe to learn from (as opposed to watching others perform what they've developed over time). _________________

Thanks Kai and Captain Canada, I'm DLin both videos right now... I'll let ya'll know how things turn out on sunday, (cuz Buzzfest is tomorrow )... But yea, I'm serious about wanting to learn how to freestyle, I mean I wanna learn how to so I can look good, but I also want to, because it'd be sooooo much fun, and a great learning experience I think... Thanks guys!
EDIT: Kai that video is SOO helpful, now all gotta do is think up the robot routine, something short and simple...
Is shimmying like where you move your feet and it looks like your gliding? _________________

also, if you need help with glides, there's IllDill's Gliding Tutorial (which ive heard is the best, havent seen it though) available through soulseek.
i also have a short one that i put together for a member a while back that entails: floating, backglides, sideglides, and circular backglides.
ask and you shall receive. _________________
